POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Following up on NHTSA ID Number: 11632353: Per NHTSA's website: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA." — I won't recount the full incident of original malfunction related to the PTU and now having been issued safety recall. But to add further complication and still any lack of resolve, we received the notifications of issuance of a safety recall related to our PTU failure. However, all correspondence has continued to state indefinitely that the is currently no resolve available for the problem. Meanwhile, the additional safety concerns and financial hardships this has caused, are compounding. First off, when attempting to move the vehicle which is completely unable to be driven whatsoever, my family and I literally were going to attempt to push the car, as it's completely immobile by its own power. And worse and scarier yet, when we attempted to do so, we found that it could no longer be trusted to hold to it's spot, in the park gear selector position! And having the completely electronic parking brake only, and with a brand new battery now also completely dead mysteriously, parking brake is completely unusable. Only choice has been to keep the vehicle sitting up against wheel chocks on all four wheels. It has become nothing but a source of anxiety and worry about our safety, but also about our lack of any resolve on when, if ever, we'll be able to get it fixed, so that we can hopefully immediately sell it, to get it out of our worrying minds. Secondly, we bought a second car in order for my wife and I both to have, reliable transportation. She being a nurse with a full time position, we had no choice but to have an immediate resolve, whereas Jeep has given us no indication of any fix, at any time in the near future. Unacceptable and Jeep needs to resolve asap.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the Service 4WD warning light was flashing and had become constant. The contact stated that while accelerating to make a right turn from a stop light at approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There were clicking and popping sounds coming from the transmission. The failure was brief before the vehicle self-corrected, and the contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that while in a School's pick-up line with stop-and-go traffic, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle lost power. The contact shifted to park, restarted the vehicle, and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the power transfer unit (PTU) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the replacement part being on backorder. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
