ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The engine starts to stall. It’s scary. It slows down to 0 and when you step on the gas it doesn’t want to go. We bought this van last year and it’s done it since we bought it. I’ve read that Honda knows it’s a problem but there needs to be a recall before someone dies in an accident.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Over 20 times our van has breaked when it was not needed. This usually happens when going up a hill and turning, or when a car slows but not enough to need to break. In several instances we have almost been rear-ended due to the sudden breaking. We try to turn off the service, but it has to be turned off each time. With the amount of traffic we have in the area, this is very dangerous.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

On June 16, 2023 When I got in my van and turned on, about 8 different system failure lights started singing and light up across my dashboard. I proceeded to drive it and it drove fine most of the time but then it would misfire or loose power. I took to a mechanic who plugged unit to read all the codes it was displaying. The ones that showed were P0300-P0306 and P219B. The mechanic pulled up and saw an extended warranty from Honda had been issued for my type of van, 2019 Honda Odyssey Touring. I called Honda to make appt to get fixed and was told that my VIN wasn’t included in the extended warranty. My van is displaying the exact issues the extended warranty covers and is clearly in need of the corrective actions listed by Honda. My gas mileage has been greatly affected and my and my children’s safety. When driving it will loose power and become very jumpy. When it looses power, there are times I’m going 50-60 mph and it’s dangerous because I suddenly drop speed and could potentially be hit. There have been codes in the past that have come on and when checked they signified dirty fuel injectors and cylinder misfires. The warning messages would go off just as randomly as they appeared. This time it’s different and the lights have stayed on. I am pleading with NHTSA to please consider including my VIN/van in a safety recall. This is an issue that Honda should address to all 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys and not just the few it knows about. The fuel injector machining process is clogging the inside of the injectors. Honda knows this. It’s dangerous to those of us who purchased their vehicles.

SEAT BELTS

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while her grandchild was seated in the third-row driver-side seat, the seat belt became twisted around the waist and he became stuck in the seat belt. The contact unbuckled the seat belt but the seat belt failed to retract and loosen the child from the restraint. The child began to scream in pain as attempts to loosen the belt made it tighter. The contact called the authorities who sent the fire department to assist; the fire department was forced to cut the seatbelt to release the child. The child sustained red markings around his waist but did not need any medical assistance. The dealer and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure but neither provided any assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

I am not getting recalls done at Autonation Honda because they tell me that Honda has not been providing rear view camera. This has been going on for 2 years. Honda does not care for its customers! I went to Autonation Honda 3 times - 25 January 2023, 25 April 2022 and 28 December 2022. Even today (5 August 2023), I am told that Honda still has no parts. Honda used excuse of COVID for long time and has been selling its vans without any shortages. This is height of carelessness from Honda. So, I want to lodge complaint against Honda for the negligence of its duty. Thanks.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

The original tires on this car needed to be changed around 20k miles. I asked the dealer to align it in 2021 after getting new tires. I barely put 8k miles per year on this minivan. Recently when I went for a rotation I was told that they are wearing unevenly. I went to get an alignment and was told that the rear driver Camber was out of spec and the rear passenger toe was out of spec. The problem is that you are unable to make those adjustments on the rear. This means that it came like this out of the factory and is rapidly wearing tires on the vehicles. I did a search online and found other people from 2019 model years who experience this issue. I had the knuckle on the passenger side replaced for $900. But then found out about the drivers side toe being out of spec. I find this abominable that the car came from the factory out of spec in the steering/suspension. There's no way i could have hit something hard enough to knock it out of spec without there being other damage to the car. I would like honda to reimburse me the cost and to fix the steering knuckle for the rear drivers side. I also would like a safety notice issued to people that their tires may wear rapidly due to inability to adjust camber/toe on the rear. I only noticed now when i go to get the tires aligned. Its been 5 years i had the car.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My Idle Stop feature on the car has become very unreliable. After the car enters the stop state, waking up the car has the following difficulties: Almost regularly, the start up process causes the car's audio and electrical to glitch and will put a warning on the dashboard that the collision mitigation system has been engaged. A few times now, the car has simply not woken up from the idle stop state, and the console will tell me to put the car in park to restart, but the shifter won't do anything. I've had to open the driver's side door to reset the electronics, close the door, and then hold the brake and push the start/stop button to get the car to restart.

A few times now, the car has simply not woken up from the idle stop state, and the console will tell me to put the car in park to restart, but the shifter won't do anything. I've had to open the driver's side door to reset the electronics, close the door, and then hold the brake and push the start/stop button to get the car to restart.

Defect Description:

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

The mirror has become detached on the drivers side. The same issue that has been reported as a recall for 2020-2022 Honda odyssey. My vehicle is 2019 and has the same issue. It is not bonded properly. It is a safety hazard. The dealership said I need to pay to have it replaced. However it should be that my car is included in the recall.

Defect Description:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

On 7/24/2023, my 2019 Honda Odyssey hesitated on start but did eventually start after a 5- second delay. After 6 miles on road, the car began to hesitate, choked, decelerate on its own even with foot on gas petal, and finally won't move an inch. The following warning lights were triggered: Brake System Problem, Brake Hold System Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Emissions System Problem, Power Steering System Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, and also To Start Engine: Brake + Push. The 2019 Honda Odyssey was towed to the Honda Dealer near me. They kept the car overnight and it stalled and died on them too. The dealer said the fuel pump needs to be replaced. I collected my memory and recall the car has experienced jerky moments at times lately. This strike me as a prematurely dead fuel pump as fuel pumps are designed to last at least 100,000 miles of the life of the car. I found out that there was a fuel pump recall in 2021 but I did not receive any notification. With a prematurely dead fuel pump and my experience, I believe this car should be part of the recall as the defect may be more widespread, affecting more than just what the Honda manufacturer has recalled. Furthermore, this is my third Honda, but this has brought many problems causing me to have called AAA 4-5 times so far and towed twice in the last couple of years.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

THE DOOR OF MY 2019 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS MALFUNCTIONED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. UPON OPENING THE DOOR, IT IMMEDIATELY CLOSES WHEN ON AN INCLINE OR DECLINE AND WILL NOT STOP EVEN WHEN A CHILD IS IN THE WAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS I OFTEN PICK MY CHILDREN UP FROM SCHOOL OR CAMP ON A SLIGHT HILL AND WHEN THE TEACHER/COUNSELOR PUTS THEM IN THE CAR, THE DOOR CLOSES ON MY CHILD. I ALSO HAVE DIFFICULTY CLOSING THE DOOR WHEN ON ANY TYPE OF HILL. I HAVE SEVERAL VIDEOS OF THE ISSUE. HONDA SAID THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND THAT THE SLIDING DOOR WAS ONLY DESIGNED TO WORK ON FLAT SURFACES, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.
