ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On [XXX] while driving 80mph on Westbound [XXX] , just West of the [XXX] exit, my engine simply quit. I was able to navigate it to the side of the highway to avoid traffic. However I could not restart the engine or subsequently get it out of Park gear. I got a notice "Conditions Not Correct for Shift." I was forced to use Onstar to get the truck towed back to the original dealership, Quebedeaux Buick/GMC in Tucson, Arizona. The next day, Monday, I went to the dealership to find out what happened to my truck. They said they would call me with results. They never did. The next day, Tuesday, I still hadn't received a call. I returned to the dealership to ask what had happened. They informed me the engine had thrown a bearing and it would need a total engine replacement. It would take 1-2 months. I'm now on day 4 of not having a vehicle, I've called the dealership every day to try to get a loaner vehicle, and they keep telling me they're working on it. The truck only has 36k miles on it and is still covered by warranty, but I feel like I'm getting the runaround from both the dealership and customer service. I still do not have a loaner vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I was driving at 60MPH on the highway and my engine failed. The dashboard read "Press Start to Restart" and my engine RPMs were zero and nothing happened when I pressed the accelerator. I was lucky to be driving in the right hand lane and was able to get over. I had to stop the vehicle in a tight area with a guardrail on the right hand side of the shoulder and passing traffic on the left. Luckily, my engine restarted. I got off at the next exit and the same thing happened. I was able to restart is again and get it home and eventually to the dealer. The vehicle has 29,500 miles on it and the dealer says it needs a new engine (L87). They say it could take 3 months to get it.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine failure requiring engine replacement. I was told it was likely a bearing failure issue. I purchased the vehicle used from grapevine Buick with about 75,000 miles and decided not to purchase an extended warranty because I have always had good life and no engine issue with my previous chevy vehicles. There were no warning engine lights before, when it occurred or after it occurred. When the problem occurred on 12/2/24 I was driving on a road going approximately 50 mph when suddenly I felt a sudden loss of power. I then pulled over into a parking lot and could hear the engine knocking and making a screeching sound. I was over 230 miles from home when this occurred and had to get the vehicle towed back home. I had it towed again to an a shop where they determined the engine needed to be replaced. There was lots of metal shavings found in the oil pain. I was told it was likely a bearing failure issue. As I had no extended warranty and the factory warranty expired at 60,000 miles I had to pay over $12,000 for the engine to be replaced on a vehicle I had just purchased the prior month.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine had already had a full replacement within the first 35,000 miles. Driving down the road at 55 MPH and engine stops completely. Have to coast into a neighborhood. Luckily I was able to get out of the road. Pulled over and turn the truck off. Tried to start it and it never would turn over. Came back an hour later to see if it just needed turn off for a bit and restarted. Tried to start it and it started right up. Drove it around the block and then decided to drive to an auto store to test the battery. Before I could get to the store the truck shut off again while driving in the middle of the busiest road in town during rush hour traffic. Had it towed to the dealership and they said I need an engine replacement. This 6.2 motor is completely unreliable and a hazard to anyone driving it. No warning lights, no indication it was going to fail. I keep up with all my maintenance. I drive under control and at the speed limit and I don't tow anything.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I had complete engine failure due to rod bearing failure resulting in the engine locking up and leaving me stranded on the road in 20° weather while waiting 2 hours for a tow truck. My safety was in jeopardy when this happened due to the extreme cold and being stuck on the side of a very busy highway. There was no warning and no warning lights on the dash prior to the engine failure. The engine in my truck is the L87 which is GM’s 6.2 liter V8. Once the truck was towed to the dealership they told me it was completely locked up and the needed a complete engine replacement that took over 8 weeks. Dealership told me the seized engine would be sent back to GM so they could inspect it for causes on why the rod bearings failed resulting in the seizure of the engine.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The engine went out while driving on the highway. Was driving around 60 mph. I almost gone to an accident. GM seemed like they knew of the problem but did not warn none of their customers of this problem. Car only had around 35,000 miles. GM however did swap out the engine. I want to sell and or trade it in, however the year and model lost its value due to the fact of the faulty engines.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

While driving my 2022 GMC Sierra Denali 6.2L truck, it somehow turned off. I placed it on neutral and tried to turn on, but it didn’t. I maneuvered to stop at the side of the road, but I was not close enough to the curb making it uncomfortable for others to drive around. I tried again to turn on the truck, but it didn’t. Before and after everything looked good, there were no symptoms or warning lights on the truck. I gave it a break and tried to turn in the truck, but it didn’t. I called GM roadside asst., and I got towed to the closed GM Services. They found out that battery was damaged, and an open starter fuse damaged. They changed the battery, the fuse block, and did the multi-point vehicle inspection (MPVI), and everything seemed good. I picked up my truck, and on my way back home the engine stopped running. At this time I get into a left turn lane, and I was able to stop before the stop line. This time I was in the middle of the road. I turned on the Hazard Warning Lights, but too many cars turning left pass through making it dangerous to my safety and others. I called the service department where my truck was serviced and GM roadside asst., and it got towed to the same service place. All this process was again around 2 hours in the middle of the road. They checked the truck, and found out that the battery was damaged, and an open starter fuse again. They changed, but this time they kept it on test to the next day and the starter fuse was damaged again. They found that the engine was locked, which is why the starter heats up and the amperage consumption increases, opening the fuse, the engine does not turn easily, the oil is at the correct level, it does not indicate low pressure in the initial driving test. They removed the oil pan and found metal particles in the oil and in the pan. After that they removed the rod bearings and can see that they are scratched and overheated, crankshaft scratched as well. Need order a new engine, oil cooler, oil cooler lines.
