POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle at Ford dealer on 3/7/24 for two separate recalls, Emission Recall 23E09 and Compliance Recall Notice NHTSA 23V848 where the BCM and PCM were reprogramed and updated. The vehicle operated normally before the dealership service for the recalls. On 3/18/24 after the recall service was performed, while driving along a state route of speed limit 55, the vehicle suddenly lost power and displayed the following indications on dashboard: Service Engine Soon, Pre-Collision Assist not available, and Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced power. The vehicle was able to be pulled over safely to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to be restarted but at a significant loss of power with the same warning lights displayed. Safety was compromised as the vehicle lost power and speed and could only be operated a short distance. Thankfully other vehicles were able to avoid me at my significantly diminished speed and I was able to turn on warning flashers and pull to the side of the road no faster than 10mph. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealer, who had the vehicle for 3 days, where they confirmed with their scan tools the warning lights had come on and the power had diminished when the incident happened, but were not able to reproduce the symptoms. Technician noted there were no SSMS or TSBS from Ford or otherwise for these concerns and was given back to me at no charge. Incident happened on March 18th, 2024 and is available for inspection.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Upon exiting highway and getting on access road, vehicle malfunctioned and indicated to slow down and shift transmission into neutral. I lost speed and was given little if any power to accelerate. I arrived at a red light where I shifted into neutral and then park. I shifted back to drive where I was able to get very little acceleration. I turned right, put on my hazards, and looked to park as quickly as possible. Even though I was driving slow I was also unable to fully brake, which was unsettling. I found a parking lot just a little ways up the road where I parked and called for a tow truck. The truck is currently at a local Ford dealer.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

While operating my Ford Maverick truck at about 50 mph, I received two immediate warnings on the instrument panel. At the same time, the truck went into reduced power mode, displaying "Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power" and "Service Engine Soon". This ended up slowing me rapidly from 50 mph down to under 20 mph and the braking became very erratic. The vehicle would barely accelerate and I barely got it home at about 20 mph. It is now accelerating better but is still far from normal and the braking and hybrid systems are erratic.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

- The truck attempts to accelerate by itself. No gas pedal pressure is required. - The brake still (thankfully) slows down and stops the truck, but if those brakes had failed, my spouse and children would have been in a wreck for sure. - No one has yet inspected the vehicle, but a service appointment has been requested. - MANY warning signals suddenly flashed: something about "hill climbing," something about AdvanceTrac, a collision warning. Those were all in the screen area. Also the following icons were lit: wrench, engine, slippery road, crash. These happened immediately before the incident. No prior warning. - We had recently (last week?) gotten some recall work done by Ford. - This is happening to other people, too. As soon as we were home, we found [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Was traveling at around 60 mph and multiple lights and warnings came up on the dash “powertrain malfunction” and “service advancetrac”. Power was reduced to a limp mode and I was forced to pull over on the highway. This happened within a week of having multiple software recalls carried out by a ford mobile technician. I was able to reset the codes with an obd scanner and haven’t had an issue since but I have read about this happening to multiple people with the same hybrid vehicle after having these recalls done.

Additional Notes:

Was traveling at around 60 mph and multiple lights and warnings came up on the dash “powertrain malfunction” and “service advancetrac”. Power was reduced to a limp mode and I was forced to pull over on the highway. This happened within a week of having multiple software recalls carried out by a ford mobile technician. I was able to reset the codes with an obd scanner and haven’t had an issue since but I have read about this happening to multiple people with the same hybrid vehicle after having these recalls done.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

[XXX] car malfunctioned in same ways it has been before. Car was going 76 on the highway, no cruise control, when a message about the gear shifting pops up and the accelerator stops working. Car begins to slow, and we pull over onto side of the highway. After getting down to about 40 parking break pops on and messages begin flashing through on the display saying: AdvanceTrac Off, Collision Assist Off, Parking Break On, Service System Soon, and all the warning lights such as check engine and slippery surface come on as well. Turned car off and waiting 5 minutes, then got back on highway. Car repeated this exact same process again after driving 3 more minutes going 76 with no cruise control. Here is a link to a video taken the first time this happened on this day: [XXX] Car had been taken to have this exact issue repaired the previous week and held over night on [XXX]. This is the second time that the car has been taken to be repaired for this issue. The first time I was told it is a computer melt down. The second I was told that the recalls that they fixed they did not fix entirely, and that it should be fine now. POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I was driving around in city traffic and all of the sudden a message popped up on my screen that said "gear will engage at lower speed" and lost all power. I coasted into the nearest parking lot and it slammed me to a stop when i got slow enough and put the parking brake on. It then thew a bunch of codes saying service soon, something regarding advancetrak, and the check engine light came on. I then turned the car off and back on which made only the check engine light come on so i tried to at least make it home and i accelerated to 20mph and lost power again. threw the same codes at me too. At that point i got into another parking lot and it got towed to mcree. I believe what the cause was a ford guy came by the house a week ago to do a recall and reprogrammed the computer system. I read online that a guy had the recall done a week ago and the same thing happened to him. That same guy said that he brought it to his ford dealer and they are on their 3rd attempt at fix it as the problem keeps occurring. lets hope that doesn't happen..
