SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Brake master cylinder rear seal failed and engine vacuum drew all fluid from reservoir into brake booster as vehicle idled in park. Both front and rear brakes were inoperable because one reservoir serves both systems and that reservoir was emptied by engine vacuum. Pedal went to floor with zero brake actuated. At highway speed this would result in a severe accident due to the rapid loss of fluid with no prior change in braking effort. Vehicle could only be slowed with parking brake. Ford dealer service department inspected and confirmed loss of fluid into booster. Brake warning light and low fluid message displayed as reservoir was drained by engine vacuum.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

This issue has happened multiple times, once on the highway the vehicle felt like it lost gear/ the engine completely cut off. multiple warning lights came on such as airbag, ABS, engine light. was eventually able to get to the shoulder and after multiple attempts it started back up, showed no warning lights. drove the rest of the way fine. another time that could have put other at risk is when driving in the city, the vehicle lost power and also lost the ability to stee. causing me to be standstill in the roadway. the vehicle started back up after two attempts. the vehicle has been to the local deal a total of 4 times with the last time requesting a through inspection of the grounds, as this seems like an electrical or mechanical issue the service manager requesting me "not to bring it back until it's broken" leaves me lost.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

6 months ago FORD replaced my blower motor (ONLY) per the recall, it still only worked intermittently so on a return visit they diagnosed a need to replace their (Motorcraft) YH-1829 A/C Blower Motor Switch / RESISTOR AND the pigtail connector SINCE THE CONNECTION PINS HAD FUSED FROM OVERHEATING. THOSE were NOT covered by the recall notwithstanding 100's or more complaints to FORD. However, The Blower ONLY worked on high. ALWAYS on high. If the key was on, the HVAC ON/OFF was useless (It's LED would go off and on but not the blower.) Likewise speed (+) and (-) did nothing. EVERY OTHER FUNCTION/Button worked fine. Temperature could be regulated and Rear A/C could be activated just fine. Yesterday, $595 later, FORD has diagnosed the Climate Control Board (FL1Z-19980-K) in the dash. IT'S RELAY HAD OVERHEATING ISSUES. They did not replace the malfumnctioning Control Board because Part FL1Z-19980-K is on a nationwide backorder with no ETA. Oh, and when/if it does become available, FORD wants $758 to install (part, tax and labor). So, I have a irrepressible suspicion that the Control Board overheat failure is linked to the overheating/fused resistor, all stemming from the original Blower Motor overheat failure that FORD did agree to recall. But, NOW, the culprit is inside the dash and the circuit cannot be turned off. IF THE KEY IS ON SO IS THE CLIMATE CONTROL CIRCUIT WITH THE BLOWER ON HIGH 100% of my driving time. More fusing? More fire risk?

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle is a 2017 Expedition that had the blower motor recall performed in October 2023. Prior to the recall being performed, we would often have burning smells coming from the blower, so it made sense that the recall was to fix a fire hazard with the blower motor. I observed burned terminals in the electrical connector and assumed they would be replaced as part of the recall. Any reasonable person would assume that burned electrical wires pose a fire hazard and a recall that is supposed to fix a fire hazard issue would replace the electrical connector. A few months after the recall was performed, we started having the exact same symptoms coming from the blower motor as we did before the recall, namely a burning smell and the blower motor operating intermittently. I contacted Ford about a problem with the recall repair and they stated they would have to diagnose it. Ford identified burned electrical terminals at the blower motor and a faulty motor controller. Ford then communicated to me that those items were not covered under the blower motor recall. I only then learned that the recall replaced only the blower motor and not the electrical connectors or controller. I was charged a $220 diagnostic fee, had I known those items were not part of the recall I would not have brought my vehicle in for diagnosis. I have three major concerns: 1. If the purpose of the blower motor recall was to prevent a fire hazard from the blower motor and related components, the recall has failed. 2. The original faulty blower motor caused damage to the blower controller and electrical connector. These components should have been replaced with the blower motor as part of the recall. It is absurd to think that Ford would install a new blower motor connected to damaged and burned wires. 3. The electrical connector and motor controller were not replaced during the recall service, but still pose a fire hazard as stated in the recall, those components should be replaced at no cost.

AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

I was in a motor vehicle accident where someone pulled out of a parking lot in front of me. I was doing about 45 at the time(which is the speed limit) on that road. I seen it coming but all I could do was try to veer right in order not to hit her door head on. Ours cars are totaled. My air bag never deployed out of the steering wheel however er I did see dust or smoke. This caused me to have chest pain and shoulder and neck pain. Which I am seeking doctors at this time.
