Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I bought a brand new Ford Edge in 2017 with a warranty of 5 years and 60,000 miles. Several weeks ago, my car turned the engine light on and began having difficulty staying on during idle time and at stop signs. Immediately, I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem of a leakage of coolant into the cylinders. They quoted me for an amount greater than the trade in value of the vehicle. From my online research, other customers are having the same leakage recurrent issue for Ford Edges between 2016-2023. The dealer could not tell me the reason behind this leakage causing the engine to overheat. This coolant leakage happening to a lot of their vehicles is putting individuals in danger of fire, explosion, or the vehicle stopping at any movement even while driving. There is absolutely no indication that this leakage was caused by poor maintenance or excessive wear and tear, and this is a recurring issue on their cars. I am afraid to drive the vehicle and cause an explosion or a fire on the road. However, Ford dealerships across the country are sending individuals on their way with defective engines without addressing the reason why new cars are having coolant leakage and having to replace the entire engine. It is Ford's responsibility to acknowledge defective parts and stop putting customers in danger. The component Ford is saying needs repair is the long block and it can be available for inspection if needed.

Potential Consequences:

My check engine light came on, took it to the dealer for an inspection, The code was p0302, miss firing of Cylinder 2. The dealer did the inspection and I was told I need a new engine because the coolant is leaking into my engine and there is no way to fix it unless, i get a whole new engine. Ford told me I could keep driving the car until the check engine light flashes at me, when that happens the car is dead. I google this issue and it turns out there is an issue with the ford engine that is 2.0 liter Ecoboost, but there is no recall on the engine, which is something major and a car with only 35,000 should not need a new engine.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The check engine light went on so I took it to the Ford Dealership. They couldn't find an immediate problem so they scheduled me for an appointment the next week. I dropped the car off today and they had it all day, finally dropping the bombshell that there was a coolant leak into cylinder 2 and I need an entirely new engine for $7k or I could sell my car and buy a new one. I'm still in shock and am doing research and apparently this is a HUGE documented problem: [XXX] and [XXX] I have been saving money to take my [XXX] parents and my 13 and 9 year old sons to Ireland in July and I am beside myself because now I can't afford it. Please don't let Ford get away with this. My car is 6 years old with 70k miles on it, I shouldn't need a new engine. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Have check engine light on . Saying bad purge solenoid. Replaced it. Light still came on. When I get fuel the suv bucks and stalls for a bit. Checked with a buddy at Ford motor company. Stated they know of the problem with it. But don't have a solution. Being an a.s.e. tech myself. And reading up on this. I see ford did recall the focus for this same issue. Why have they not recalled others vehicles like mine. This could be a VERY BAD SAFETY HAZARD. when a person is filling there car the extra fuel is now going into the fuel evap system, backwards. So it's filling up as system that is meant only for fumes. If something in this system shorts out or have a internal engine back fire from this extra fuel. It could potentially cause a explosion in the fuel system and with a full tank of fuel that would not have a happy ending. The nhtsa Must get on ford to fix this problem asap.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact's daughter was able to reach her destination, but afterwards, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that coolant intrusion into the cylinders had damaged the engine, requiring a replacement of the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-229 The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 70,000.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Check engine light keeps turning on and off, took it to Ford to get diagnosed. There’s a coolant leak into the cylinder 2 causing a misfire and a cracked gasket. Whole engine needs to be replaced to fix this issue, over $6500 worth of repairs that I cannot afford and Ford won’t help with costs. My car is still currently drivable but isn’t safe to drive long distance as it could break at any time while I have myself and 16 month old child in the vehicle. I have a website with other Ford Edge owners having the same engine issue and needing to replace them. This is the link; [XXX] Please hold Ford accountable to announce a recall on the engine. STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My 2017 Ford Edge sport is having the same known adaptive steering issues that were covered on the previous two year models. I’ve received the warning light twice now that the adaptive steering system is initializing and I have to turn the car off or Manually select the ok option to acknowledge the msg. Nothing else happened or was obviously noticeable with the first time the light came on. Couple weeks later I had parked at a gas station 5 min from my house was out of my car less than couple min back in my car there’s no lights on to warn me of Anything when I start my car but once I pulled out into the road my steering wheel was at an obvious left turn position in order to be able to drive the car forward. I was less Than .69 miles from my house once on the road I made three total left hand turns to get to my home. And home the left last left hand turn into my driveway the steering wheel did something awkward and somehow corrected it’s self while pulling into my driveway and I parked then before turning off the car it started flashing again now this was the second time total I saw adaptive cruise initializing. Ive not gotten any other warning Info at all and the car hasn’t said or displayed any service due or required on anything just initializing and that’s it. I turned the car off and it’s been two days and hasn’t repeated anything. Yet. But the characteristics of my issue are an exact description of same car same model recall but not showing recalled for 2017 that. Can find. Could my car have been built in 2016 and in that been actually affected by the recall but somehow not included as one of the cars given model year Indicator?
