NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine light started flashing 5mins after driving on a busy freeway. Had to pull over to allow engine to cool with children in the car. Topped off coolant. Over the next week, the leak continued. Took the car to my mechanic who was unable to replicate the issue. Warning lights continued to flash and coolant continued to leak. Took car back to mechanic who advised engine block intrusion common to Fords. Advised TSB for certain Ford vehicles (2017 Ford Edge 2.0 included) plagued by a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine cylinders, leading to a host of problem. Reported the problem to Ford who advised me to bring the car to run diagnostics (for a $200 fee). Confirmed engine long block issue and $9700 to fix.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Our 2017 Ford Edge is equipped with an EcoBoost engine. This engine has a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure. This defect creates a safety risk because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. We took our vehicle to the Ford dealership on 7/17/24 because it was misfiring and losing power while driving. The dealership informed us that the coolant had in fact been leaking into the engine and we would need a new engine rebuild at a cost of $8,200. There were no warning lights and nothing else to indicate any issue was present until it was too late.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

2017 Ford Edge, purchased this vehicle brand new, 2 days ago was driving and car became overheated suddenly, temperature attempted to decrease via the power and within 1 hour it was in the Ford Dealership being looked at. I was told it had an engine coolant leakage problem that would require a complete replacement of a brand new long block engine; approximately $10k in repairs. I did not have extended warranty on this vehicle and the manufacturers warranty covered 5yr/60k miles. I've found thousands of other consumers with this exact issue. Ford knows it's a defect in these engines but refuses to make it an official recall. My car that was worth approx 10-13k is now worth nothing and will be sold at auction. Shame on you, Ford.
