Defect Description:
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Potential Consequences:
The contact's mother owns a 2020 Ford EcoSport. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V905000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while her mother was driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started jolting. Additionally, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond and stalled. The check engine warning light, the low oil pressure warning light, and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The driver was unable to pull to the side of the road. The highway patrol assisted the contact's mother until the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the oil pump drive belt tensioner arm was fractured and there were metal shavings in the oil. Additionally, the dealer diagnosed that the loss of oil pump pressure had caused engine failure. The dealer determined that the engine and the turbo needed to be replaced. The vehicle was temporarily repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated several times three days after the repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the transmission fluid was low. The dealer replaced the transmission fluid several times; however, the failure persisted. The dealer diagnosed that the transmission front gear box had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 64,150. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Potential Consequences:
There has been no incident because we are afraid to drive the car due to the recalled part. The first letter regarding the recall stated the parts were anticipated 2nd quarter 2024. Now it's 1st quarter 2025. What are we supposed to do in the meantime? Drive it and wait to be stranded on the highway? And will Ford push off the fix again once 2025 comes? There has to be a better solution in the wait-time.

Potential Consequences:
Receive a recall notice in Feb 2024. On March 30, 2024 vehicle oil light/engine light came on and started to engine noise. Because of the recall, it stated not to drive vehicle if this happens because it could cause an accident. Had vehicle tolled to Titusville Florida dealership on April 1, 2024. Was told that they were going to order parts, but available until 2nd quarter of 2024. Call Ford service customer Claim # CXH02216288. asked for a car to use while waiting for repairs. Dealership told me that I was approved for a rental, but after 4 weeks, I went into dealership to ask about rental and they told me they waiting for one the be available. I had to get other transportation. Received another notice from NHTSA that the parts would not be available until 1st quarter 2025. So I requested for Ford to do a buy out option on my vehicle and I was not approved for a buy out option. It's been almost 4 months at the Ford Service Dept. I request Ford to defer my payments because I will not a vehicle for may be 11 months. So I'm paying my monthly payments plus insurance on a vehicle that may never be repaired.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
My engine blew up because of this faulty part. I have not had my vehicle since Oct. So, I was forced to go get a rental car because, I still needed transportation too and from work. I spent over $4,000. Since March on a rental car plus still payed $483. A month for my vehicle that was just sitting in my drive way. Ford just now took my vehicle in to check it and told me that it would need a whole engine. Ford finally gave me a loner vehicle so that I wouldn't have to keep paying for a rental car. I have contacted Ford corporations many time in hope to try and get reimbursement for the rental car that I paid for this whole time and they are telling me that there is nothing they can do about reimbursement for the rental car. I am very upset with Ford because it wasn't my fault that the engine had a faulty part in it. I believe they should have to reimburse me the money I paid out of my own pocket for the rental vehicle.
