Toyota will be contacting the owners of certain 2018-2019 Toyota and Lexus vehicles because of a defect affecting the low pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank. The problem affects specific fuel pumps produced by Denso in which an increased rate of failure has been observed.
According to the defect report, the fuel pump impeller could deform because of excessive fuel absorption. If impeller deformation occurs, it could contact the fuel pump body, causing an illumination of the check engine light and master warning indicators, the engine will run rough and the engine will not start or will stall at low speeds.

A remedy for this defect is still being developed. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 20TB02 and 20TA02 for Toyota vehicles and 20LB01 and 20LA01 for Lexus vehicles and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-012.
