Continental Tires of America (CTA) have filed a defect notification ( 21T-001) which affects OEM and replacement market tires on certain Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Honda, Nissan and Volkswagen vehicles.
According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, some vehicles may be equipped with tires that may have been subjected to an over-cure condition. As a result, the tires could experience a sudden loss of air due to a carcass break in the sidewall and/or may develop a belt edge separation that could lead to partial or full thread loss. These conditions increase the the risk of an accident and injury.
Possible Warnings that a problem can occur include: The tires may exhibit visible localized tread wear that may manifest as excessive vibration and/or bulging in the tread area.
