Temporary Loss Of Steering Assist In GM Trucks

On 2017-09-05 15:17:11

A temporary loss of electric power steering in certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks will have approximately 700,000 vehicle owners returning to their dealerships for repairs.

According to the safety recall report, a software issue may result in a temporary loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist, particularly during low-speed turning maneuvers. During this time a driver will be alerted of a problem through a dashboard warning light and could experience a temporary loss of other electrical sub-systems such as radio, stabiltrack, the driver information center, chimes, door locks, air conditioning and cruse control. If EPS assist is lost and then returns, the driver could temporarily lose control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealers tho have the EPS module software updated.
