RAM Trucks Recalled For Shifting Problem

On 2018-02-16 09:50:42

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2017-2018 RAM trucks regarding a problem affecting the brake shift interlock. According to the safety report, depression of the brake pedal when the vehicle is in “Park” and running, could energize the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI). If the BTSI is energized for prolonged periods of time, it could overheat and cause the housing to swell, the grease to degrade and the BTSI locking pin to stick in the open position. This will allow the transmission to be shifted out of “Park” without depressing the brake or having a key in the ignition. The problem could result in an unintended roll away.

The vehicles affected by the recall include:

  • 2017-2018 RAM 1500
  • 2017-2018 RAM 2500
  • 2017-2018 RAM 3500
  • 2017-2018 RAM 4500
  • 2017-2018 RAM 5500

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealers to have the body control module software updated. Dealers will also test the BTSI operation, replacing the solenoid as necessary. Chrysler's number for this recall is U11 and the NHTSA campaign number is 18V-100.
