Honda Clarity Water Pump Failure

On 2019-06-11 16:06:37

Honda will be contacting the owners of certain 2017-2018 Clarity Fuel Cell vehicles regarding a problem with the power train system. The affected vehicles have an electric water pump that circulates water to cool the fuel cell stack. The magnets inside the pump were not properly surface treated and could corrode due to water exposure. Excessive corrosion could disable the pump which would illuminate the warning indicator and cause the EV to lose power and possibly stall.

The defect pertains to an electric water pump installed in the Clarity Fuel Cell vehicles to circulate water to cull the fuel cell stack. Although the Clarity Battery Electric and Plug-In Hybrids share many common parts, neither include the electric water pump because neither have the fuel cell stack.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge.  Honda's number for this recall is L4N and the NHTSA Campaign number is 19V315.
