In February, Hyundai Motor America received a customer complaint about fuel odour on a model year 2021 Hyundai Genesis GV80 vehicle. An investigation into the problem found the cause to be the high pressure fuel tube.

According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, the fuel tube connecting the high pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail may have been produced with end tips that do not meet specifications. This defect resulted in an incomplete seal when installed. A poor seal may allow fuel to leak, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.

A review into supplier production records showed that these defective parts may have been installed in certain 2021 Genesis G80 and GV80 vehicles produced from January 22, 2021 through February 5, 2021.

Hyundai will be asking owners to return to their dealers to have the high pressure fuel tube replaced. The recall is expected to begin May 21, 2021. Hyundai's number for this recall is 008G and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V-208.
