Audi A8 And S8 Fire Risk

A problem affecting the engine compartment seal of certain 2013-2018 Audi A8 and 2013-2018 Audi S8 vehicles, will have approximately 13,000 owners returning to their dealerships for repairs.

According to the defect report, the wire helix used in the seal around the engine compartment could deformed and loosen due to high engine compartment temperature fluctuations and vibrations. The seal could contact hot engine parts, potentially causing and engine compartment fire. Owners should inspect the engine compartment seal when the hood is open and contact their authorized Audi dealer to have repairs made if the seal is no longer in the correct position.

Dealers will install a retaining plate to prevent the engine compartment seal from loosening. The recall is expected to begin September 4, 2020. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 51G6 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-397.
