Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Ekko motorhomes. The solar charging system was incorrectly designed without sufficient over-current protection, which can allow the circuit to overheat and melt the fuse.

Potential Risk:
A melted fuse increases the risk of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the solar controller fuse and components, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-3535. Winnebago's number for this recall is 186.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Ekko motorhomes. The blind spot monitoring system may fail without warning to the driver.

Potential Risk:
Without a functioning blind spot monitoring system, the driver may be unaware of a vehicle in their blind spot, which can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2022 Ekko, 2020-2022 Minnie Winnie, Spirit, 2020-2022 View, Navion, and 2020-2021 Vita, and Porto motorhomes. An incorrect hitch label was installed, which can lead to overloading of the vehicle.

Potential Risk:
An overloaded vehicle can cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Travato, 2021-2023 Solis, and 2022-2023 Ekko motorhomes, equipped with certain Cummins Onan QG 2800i, and Onan QG 2800i EVAP generator sets. The fuel hose between the fuel filter and Injection Pump Module (IPM) may not be properly secured, which can cause a gas leak.

Potential Risk:
A gas leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

The 12-Volt charging system may have improperly routed wires and loose electrical connections, which can overload the electrical circuits and cause damage to electrical components, including the auxiliary alternator.

Potential Risk:
Overloaded electrical circuits that damage components increase the risk of a fire.

The internal aluminum burner tubes that connect to the gas valves may fracture and cause a gas leak.

Safety Issue:

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Solis, Travato, and Ekko vehicles, equipped with GE-ES Double Flipseats. The seat belt retractors may lock up when the vehicle is on a slight incline. As such, these seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

Potential Risk:
If the seat belt retractor locks, a passenger may believe they are trapped in the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Winnebago will work with Freedman to notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat and repair, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 23, 2021. LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION

Potential Consequences:

The blind spot monitors on the Ekko suddenly failed. The system provides no warning, any longer, of approaching, or passing vehicles. I belong to an Ekko users group and have found from other owners that this is a common problem with these vehicles. The BSM's suddenly cease to operate and continue to break down, even after being "fixed" by dealers.

Corrective Action:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

This is allegedly related to the Balmar relay system installed by Winnebago in the Ford Transit van.It is currently at the dealer, Colonial Winnebago, in Millstone Twp., NJ. Dealer can be contacted for inspection. We began traveling at a 25 mph speed for about 2 miles when smoke began to flow from under the hood. We pulled over to inspect; 911 was called. Smoke and flames under the hood were visible and continued until the fire truck came and extinguished the fire. Our safety and the safety of others was put at risk as the unit did not display any warning signs on the dashboard, there was a fire and smoke under the hood, we were in a public parking lot, and the unit carries 2 20 lb. propane tanks. Problem was diagnosed by our local Ford dealer, who stated that this is a Winnebago issue, as this was a Winnebago specific modification to the Ford. Unit was not drivable and needed to be towed to Winnebago dealer for service. They know about this issue - and have known for some time - but have not yet released the recall. We do not know at this time when the unit can be repaired. I do not know who has inspected the vehicle other than the Ford dealer and Winnebago dealer. No other warning signs or symptoms before the incident occurred.

Blind Spot Monitor stopped working after driving in the rain. The warranty dealer said that the rear sensors 'went out' because of the moisture. Currently still waiting for repairs. Driving an RV without a BSM is more difficult. We had to install a full time, rear view camera, to supplement the non working BSM. There were no other warnings before the system went out. However I'm are aware of many other Winnebago Ekkos with similar problems from reading about the failures on Facebook owners groups. May have been repaired multiple times Our '22 Winnebago Ekko Serial number is 106112170105

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The Balmar charge controller for the coach lithium batteries failed. The controller is rated for temperatures up to 90 C (194 F). Based on Ekko forum discussions I suspected the controller, which is located in close proximity to the passenger side turbocharger was overheating. I fashioned an improvised heat shield between the turbocharger and controller and after driving in 74 F ambient conditions measured temperatures of 285 F on the heat shield and 185 F at the controller surface. I also added heat shielding to the controller wiring, which is also very close to the turbocharger. Clearly without owner-added heat shielding, (and even with during higher than 74 F ambient temperatures) the controller is far exceeding it's allowable temperature maximum.

Driving on interstate with cruise control suddenly for no reason the vehicle self brakes hard. Luckily no other vehicles close by. Able to get vehicle to shoulder (lucky shoulder and driving in right lane). We have collision assist and ABS with cruise adaptive. It’s obvious that it malfunctioned and we are very lucky. Called WInnebago and they said this is Ford Chassis- called Ford and they said they would get back to me! We were afraid to travel On but did and it hasn’t malfunctioned again. We also read that we could turn the system off, which we now did. Ford rep should have immediately told us to turn it off for our safety. Instead we haven’t heard a word back from Ford.
