Defect Description:
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The truck was initially brought in on April 10, 2024, for a continuous regeneration issue with the DPF filter, showing codes P242F and P1451. The dealership diagnosed it as requiring a new EGR valve and possibly a DPF filter assembly, under the VB6 emissions recall and extended warranty (XQ1). After replacing the EGR valve, the Y-78 HPFP safety recall was completed. Upon completion, the technician noted multiple fuel-related DTCs, lack of power, and metal debris at the fuel control actuator caused by a failed CP4 pump. At this time, the dealership was unaware of the XQ1 warranty, so instead of replacing the DPF filter, they force regenerated it. Upon picking up the truck, the check engine light came on (April 26, 2024). After reporting it, the dealership stated the DPF filter needed replacement, and on May 26, 2024, it was replaced under XQ1. However, after picking up the truck again, the check engine light came back on, and diagnostics revealed misfires across all six cylinders (codes P0300–P0306) and abnormally high fuel pressure at the wire harness—issues that weren't present before the EGR valve or HPFP recall repairs. The truck has since remained at the dealership, with multiple unsuccessful attempts to fix the issue by replacing the fuel lifter, wire harness, fuel filter, and a second Y-78 recall replacement due to "faulty parts" from the first attempt. The dealership charged a diagnostic fee and suggested replacing rocker arms and push rods, but this did not resolve the problem. The dealership has since recommended replacing the PCM module but then retracted the recommendation and is now requesting a new diagnostic fee to tear down the engine, remove cylinder heads, and inspect for debris, as the misfires and high fuel pressure have persisted since April 26. The safety concern is that the truck behaves as though it is starving for fuel when the engine light reappears, with stored codes showing misfires and high fuel pressure, related to Y-78.

Potential Consequences:
On June 26, 2024 during a long road trip, the vehicle lost power repeatedly in the middle of an area with no road service. It put my safety and that of my passenger at risk on the highway as losing power suddenly causes danger in fast-moving traffic causing the risk of potential collisions with other vehicles. There was no warning lamp indicating the failure would occur. To this date, the dealer has not fixed the issue. After approximately three weeks, I picked up the vehicle after it as allegedly repaired (at that time the dealer stated it was an electrical issue). The vehicle failed again not more than one-half mile from the Omak Dodge service center placing my safety at risk yet again. I managed to get the vehicle back to the service center at which time, the dealer stated after consultation with RAM technical support, that the issue was a failure in the fuel system. The dealer claims that the problem was the failure of a fuel injector/pump that caused particulate matter to contaminate the entire fuel system. Being that it was allegedly a power train failure, it was to have been covered under the power train warranty. After approximately three months of delay, the dealer stated the truck was repaired. On arriving at the dealer to pick up the truck, the dealer stated it wasn't repaired and had an exhaust issue. The truck remains at the dealer to this date, October 25, 2024. The dealer states that the exhaust issue is yet another issue with the truck that is covered under a warranty voluntarily extended to 10 years by RAM.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Initially I witnessed a large volume of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe when pulling up to fuel pump. A passer-by informed me that there were flames underneath the truck on the passenger side. I then got out of truck, stooped down to look underneath, and observed a hose leading from the exhaust system on fire and multiple exhaust components glowing red hot. After getting my passenger out of the truck I got back in, put it in drive and pulled forward away from the fuel pumps and made it about forty feet before truck engine stalled. I then proceeded to get a fire extinguisher from the fuel pump lanes and extinguish the fire and directed the remaining agent at the hotspots to cool them. After the fire department ensured the vehicle was safe to move it was towed to the local RAM dealership where it is now awaiting service technicians to inspect the damage after the weekend.

I had recall work done on my truck on 3/2023- it is not listed on your website that anything has been fixed on my truck. My truck quit working 5/2023 and has been at my personal shop since then. They ended up doing the same work as the recall that was performed on 3/2023 and is not working still. I looked up on the website and our vehicle is showing no recalls were done on this truck. The dealership is having me jump through hoops to have them take the vehicle back to try to fix the recall that my personal dealership said was wrong with the vehicle.

Service ESC flashing on the dash intermittently. If I am in cruise control when it happens vehicle abruptly disables cruise control. Codes when ready are U0002 and U0212. Same problem happened about a year ago, dealer reflashed ABS and sent me on my way. I informed them of other similar trucks experiencing the same issue and that it wasn't a reflash issue. Had them document my concerns that it would just happen again after warranty...I was right.
