Recall Date: May 17, 2018
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. FREE Recall Solution:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Recall Date: Feb 8, 2018
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Potential Risk:
Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will update the Body Control Module software. Dealers will also test the BTSI operation, replacing the solenoid as necessary. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Potential Risk:
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

Defect Description:

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

The check electronic brake system light started coming on intermittently in October 2023. Dealer determined it was a faulty hydraulic control unit but it took three weeks to locate the part for a vehicle just over 24,000 MILES and based on other reports I consider myself lucky to have my truck repaired under four weeks. RAM was completely unapologetic and had me pay full price for the repair. I have no trust for the replaced part or RAM as a brand. Sold the truck, but I would not mind a refund for parts of questionable quality.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the Service Electronic Braking System warning message had appeared on the instrument panel. As a result, both the remote electrical start and the cruise control features failed to operate as needed. The dealer acknowledged the failure but informed the contact that the part needed to repair the failure was unavailable. Once the part became available, the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and agreed to cover for part of the repair; however, once the part became available, the manufacturer no longer offered any financial assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I bought my truck brand new in 2017. Two weeks ago my truck started intermittently flashing a brake warning as well as an audible alert. The screen says “service electronic braking system”. Also, when this happens, it shuts off my cruise control. Worrying me as the braking system is CRITICAL for daily use.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

A sensor in the ABS braking system went out. We attempted to get it fixed in September but were told the part was unavailable until February due to the fact that Ram was having to reengineer the part. We personally know 5 people who have had to replace this sensor. The service manager at the dealership told us that it was a very common problem. We have been driving for months with no ABS. Shouldn’t this safety issue be a recall? If the sensor had to be reengineered, Ram obviously knows it’s a problem.
