To whom it may concern, It is of extreme concern the interior moisture issue my vehicle is experiencing. My vehicle has been to Chrysler Dodge Jeep and RAM in Valencia, California twice, for inspections, for reoccurring moisture inside the vehicle. On two separate inspections, on two separate dates, the investigation revealed no moisture issues present. Unfortunately, this week after a moderate rain storm, I discovered that all the interior electronics were dead inside the vehicle, although the exterior power was working on the exterior. Additionally, I discovered several heavy moisture areas within the interior cabin, which was described to me by service personnel, as being common. Finally, I also discovered upon closing the left rear door that there was moderate water draining out of the door, and or possible frame of the vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My instrument cluster malfunctioned and has been repaired by an authorized Ram dealer. My safety was at risk because my cluster at times would not illuminate. The dealer confirmed the instrument cluster malfunctioned and the entire cluster was replaced. While driving, the instrument cluster would not fully illuminate or display warnings, and at times power steering temporarily unavailable. The instrument cluster drained my battery and caused permanent damage to it. The vehicle would not start on its own. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealer, and Chrysler is in possession of the faulty instrument cluster. This issue is similar with other service bulletins related to Ram's poor quality control of their instrument clusters. No recall has been issued for my specific vehicle though it was clearly a manufacturer defect. It should be recalled and my repair cost refunded due to this being a safety issue.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

While under warranty brought my vehicle to the dealer because I could not pump gas. The pump would continue to click off while fueling. Dealer told me that it may be the gas station that I'm going to and that they could not replicate the problem. Fast forward 6 months, the vehicle is now out of warranty and the problem has continued to the point where I can't put any fuel in. Brought it to another dealer and they said I need a new fuel pump and a new fuel tank at at cost of $2500. This should have been covered under the warranty but the first dealer was less than honest. I'm sure they knew what the issue was since there are numerous complaints similar to mine on this site. NHTSA should investigate and/or open a recall because RAM won't. This fuel issue isn't just related to the 2019 1500 but other years as well. Consumers are paying for repairs that RAM should be covering through the recall.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My power steering is not functioning properly. I have to let my truck warm up for an extended amount of time otherwise it doesn't function. There is a malfunction indicator light that comes in and tells me the power steering needs serviced. Sometimes, even after 30 minutes of warming up, it still doesn't work. I have had it cut out and stop working while I'm driving and been forced to drive it without the power steering working. There is no indication when it will cut on or shut off. It has abruptly started working in the middle of driving and nearly caused me to be in several accidents and almost caused me to run off the road twice. This is a known issue by the manufacturer for the same year, make and model as mine, but for some reason I'm told my vehicle is not included in the recall. This is the only vehicle my family has at the moment and this is dangerous and scary. My vehicle should be included in the recall. I cannot afford this repair on my own right now.

Estimate to fix $1000.00 On 12/28.2022 went to Hendricks Ram in Wilmington NC to have truck inspected. Service advisor [XXX] confirmed the rear window plastic frame cracked and leaking. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The rear window frame has cracked with under 33,000 miles on the truck. The crack occurred prior to my purchase of the vehicle. The crack has allowed water to enter the rear of the vehicle and potentially damage/interfere with various electronic systems and cause odors/mold. This water intrusions has caused some of these vehicles to no longer operate. The vehicle is available for inspection. It has not been inspected by a dealership to my knowledge (recently purchased used). This issue has not activated any sort of warning lights and was discovered luckily by accident, so I have been able to take some action to attempt to mitigate this issue. These mitigation steps are in no way permanent solutions for this issue.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

2 Issues to go over: 1.) The rear defroster. My defroster has failed on me twice. First time I had it repaired, second time they were going to charge me the same amount for the same failure. I had it repaired by my local auto shop, So it has not been touched by a manufacturer technitian. No warning to it at all. I only noticed it once I had ice covering my rear window and could not defrost, elimitating any center rear view completetly. 2.) The Main issue is the side view mirrors. They are automatic mirrors with a button on the interior to open and close them. From what the Dealership has told me is they use plastic gears to control the mirror operation. And they tend to get stripped out, this happens so often that there is a 6 month backorder on these parts. The safety issue arrises when I am driving down the road at either highway speeds or if there are large wind gusts, my side view mirror will close on me, because those gears holding the mirror in place has stripped so it just closes due to wind pressure. I have to stop the car, get our and reposition the mirror or else I have no visibility from the side view mirror that closes. This is a massive safety risk as I am unable to see to the left OR right of me if my mirror collapses shut. And the fact that this happens to so many vehicle that I cant get the parts to fix it for at least six months in unnacceptable.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Our defrost system on windshield is only working on one side. First things first, the Vin number and the picture listed does not match our vehicle so I will be calling the the safety line to get it fixed. When googling the Dodge recalls. It popped up as a recall but I guess it’s not on our vin number dodge yet? Then the truck automatically started smelling like antifreeze. When driving it sometimes loses power to the gas pedal and starts to slow down! The back windshield started leaking the same day as the defrost malfunction. There is no dash signal when there’s low air in tires….. And depending on speed of the dodge started making like dying whale moaning sounds. When turning the truck off, it stops for a minute, but then it starts again. This truck only has 50,000 miles on it and it should not be tearing up this quick as it is. When pushing the push start on and off, it always goes into a cc mode instead of turning off Last but not least the gas tank is malfunctioning when you put the gas pump into the tank I think the gas is leaking out and you have to constantly reset the gas pump handle. Also, the tailgate is getting stuck and you cannot open it. I’m afraid it’s going to come open when driving. Thank you for your time. Hope to speak with you soon. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

When refueling, the fuel vapor recovery system causes the gas pump to shut off after only a couple seconds of pumping fuel. This happens continually while attempting to refuel. It takes 20-25 minutes to refill the tank. The dealership says they have to replace the whole fuel tank to fix this issue at a cost of over $1,800.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Experience: Ongoing issue and reproducible each time driving. Notice "stuck" feeling in steering at speeds over 45mph. "Stuck" feeling consistently reproduced while at highway speeds making left bend, left lane change, or slight left turn. Problem consistently occurs between 10 and 11 o'clock angle. Problem occurs occasionally with right bends, lane changes, and turns. Problem was experienced immediately at purchase of the vehicle (34K miles) but not fixed until 47k miles. Safety Concern: Problem occurs at high speeds and jerking the steering wheel to correct for the "stick" could lead to overcorrection or slippage, especially in poor weather conditions. Unsafe in dense traffic. Dealer: Dealer identified the issue with the rack and pinion. Dealer said "found rack to have internal fault replaced and set toe cn". Dealer mentioned there was an electrical short in the rack and pinion causing the "stick". Inspection: No inspection made by anyone other than the dealership.
