The "Generator Kit" which houses the vehicles alternator went bad. I have been waiting for more than 4 weeks for the repair to be done and the shop has no idea when the part will arrive. It is Generator Kit #68623194AB. I reached directly out to 12 dealers and none of them give me any idea of when they can get the part and have a waiting list themselves. The web is lighting up with thousands of complaints about this single issue. One dealer said they have no idea when the part will show up and they've already been waiting for "6" MONTHS. They said it could honestly be another 6 months. For an alternator??? RAM Trucks has a major issue here and they have known about it for a while.

Potential Consequences:

Motor Generator Unit failed at 89,000 miles. Three dealerships that I spoke with having waiting lists of customers for this repair. Backlog on part is up to four months. It is evident that this is specifically problematic to the models equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 Hemi MDS VVT eTorque Engine. Federal warranty expires at 80,000/ 8 years. Based upon the number of vehicles effected and specific to eTorque engines, seems like a recall (or reimbursement) is warranted in this case.

The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 60 MPH the messages "Service Air Bag System", "Service Electric Stability Control", "Service Trailer Brake System", "Service Park Brake", "Service Anti-Lock Brake System" and "Service Power Steering" were displayed and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that soon after, the transmission failed to shift into gears as intended, and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact also stated that while driving and making turns the transmission will slip into neutral(N) upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stopped the vehicle, shifted to park(P), shifted back to drive(D) and drove to the residence. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Electric Harness and RF Hub had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage approximately 154,000.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The dangerous behavior occurs only when the truck is in four-wheel-drive. Two behaviors: One:Low range. Ascending up a steep dirt road without warning truck shifted into neutral and got stuck there. Shifting into reverse drive or park did not take it out of neutral. The steering and brakes worked. The four-wheel-drive, low and four-wheel-drive high indicatorlights were blinking simultaneously. This behavior persisted after turning the truck off and on again. I had to back down a switchback dirt road. Eventually, I thought to disconnect the battery and reconnect it which corrected the behavior and put the truck back to normal. I no longer use this truck in four-wheel-drive low. I am having the truck looked at by a second dealer service department to try to diagnose this problem. 2: the second abnormal, behavior occurs in four-wheel-drive low, first gear heading downhill using the engine compression for braking. The truck will without warning shift into 2 Wheel Dr. high range, and the four-wheel-drive, low and four-wheel-drive high indicator lights blink simultaneously. This behavior is corrected by turning the engine off and then on again.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I brought my truck in because the check engine light was on. My mechanic first replaced the oil pressure sensor, but the check engine light came back on. The oil pressure is low, and the oil pump is the problem. I only have 62,000 miles on the truck, and have kept up with oil changes and maintenance.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The engine light came on, and I noticed some noise under the hood at the same time. The actual code for the OBD two diagnostics was poa43. Drive motor a position sensor circuit issue. It appears that the Rams have a E torque system that is failing over and over again its federal warranty is eight years and 80,000 miles. I am just above the mileage unfortunately it’ll have to pay thousands probably. This really shouldn’t fail on a vehicle like this and hundreds of people have it and the part is backordered so you have downtime of your vehicle for weeks if not months.

AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

Rear window seal has allowed water in to the cab of the truck and the electronic components under the back seat have already had to be replaced causing the vehicle to not operate properly. The rear window is still leaking and has leaked since 2021, when it was replaced under warranty. If water enters into the electronic components under the back seat or the air bags located in the head liner, while driving, this could cause severe damage to property and could be harmful to life.
