Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
I was driving on a very busy road in Portland when my engine suffered catastrophic failure and seized the engine. This was due to a defect in the crankshaft. My family and I are lucky this didn’t happen at speed on a highway. Land Rover has failed to acknowledge a problem despite thousands of people experiencing the same. This resulted in a 26k bill. I just found out I could report my experience so I am now. Research has uncovered this is a common problem and a safety concern for many others as well. https://www.thepetitionsite.com/535/903/886/land-rover-sdv6-amp-tdv6-crank-failure/ https://www.lrukforums.com/threads/crank-shaft-snapping.263315/ There are countless other websites detailing people’s experiences.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Driving down the highway, the vehicle all the sudden started smoking, forcing me to pull over. Upon pulling over, I found it was a fire under the left front hood based on the smoke pouring out. I called 911 immediately. I attempted to save some belongings, including my $200K boat, but failed to save anything as the fire rapidly grew forcing me to step far away. I then watched my car, boat and belongings all perish to nearly nothing before the fire department arrived and put out the fire. While I am lucky to be safe and have adequate insurance, others may not fair so well when their Land Rover Discovery 5 petrol catches fire.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
was driving on Wa-18 highway going to Snowqualmie Falls with my family. Suddenly I heard a snap from the front and at the same moment the car start shaking from the front so I slowed down trying to go to the right lane so I could stop when i see a chance because I was in an area where there is no emergency curve. The car died couple of seconds after the snap and because the cars were going too fast on the right lane i ended up in the left lane then I saw car Fumes coming from the engine area but I couldn’t exit the car for safety and made sure that I turned off the ignition and was hoping that the car will not go up in flames while im on a freeway and have my wife and my 3 kids in the car with me. A lot of traffic buildup behind me and minutes later the state patrol pushed me to the next exit. I called AAA and towed the car to Land Rover Of Tacoma for an inspection. After they inspected the car, they said that the timing chain was loose and the car need a new engine. At six years old only a car with 65,000 miles not supposed to have a problem with the timing chain. The dealership failed to tell me what’s the reason that the time in chain is loose because this time in chain supposed to last for a longer than 65,000 miles with no problems. I read all over the Internet and everyone is complaining about the Land Rover timing chain brake or get loose with low mileage and many of these people say the car went off on the freeway and put them on a dangerous situation just like what happened with me and my family.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
I was completely stopped at a red light. I have just left work and was 2 miles down the street. My rear window completely exploded. Glass flew everywhere. The noise was so loud that it caused ear pain. I have requested a complete inspection from the dealership along with a review of the EDR system and SDR. This happened on Wednesday 3/15. I am concerned this was electrical given the car had only been turned on for 3 minutes and i was at a complete stop with ZERO impact. I am concerned for this to happen again with my children in the car or for the possibility of a short circuit affecting the airbags, additional window, breaks, anything else. I have submitted videos and photos to the dealership to review and as you can see the points are at the electrical boxes on the left and right side of the window. I would like this reviewed for safety concerns.

Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
I am reporting this issue because after contacting Land Rover Headquarters and was told that they do not recognize this issue as a problem. To add to my complaint is the fact that a lawsuit was brought to the Tennessee District court for this very matter. There is an apparent defect on the windshield, mainly on the passenger side. I just confirmed that the windshield is slightly loose on the passenger side, which leads to water leakage. The vehicle is a 2017 Land Rover Discovery 5 (L462), this problem presents a clear danger as any accident that the car is involved in could lead the vehicle's airbag, on the passenger side, ejecting the windshield - not to mention what would occur on a rollover. I have tried to reach management at both the US and UK offices and they are not available from what I am told. I would mention that these vehicles are a danger and we are told that the brand sells quality. However, it appears to be quite the opposite. I provided a Service Action (N221) detailing the matter in question but they have excluded the 2017 Land Rover from this Service Action. I also attached the lawsuit brought in the courts of Tennessee which mentioned that windshield subpar seal, which causes water leakage. If there is a rollover on Land Rovers L462 years 2017 to present, the windshield will not perform as designed and people may day.

Potential Consequences:
Front windshield has a leak for the second time. The first time it was replaced a year ago, and now the leak is in the top of the windshield frame causing water to leak onto the dash and also on to infotainment screen from the rear view mirror above. Loss and failure of electrical components is a real consternation in regard to this issue. Apparently this is an ongoing manufacturer production failure, with many complaints from owners of this vehicle across the internet. The service mgr. at the dealership informed me that I need to pay $650 to have the windshield replaced. I feel that this issue is the responsibility of Land Rover and has to be resolved with a recall. Please let me know if there is any help available in this regard. Thank you Jack Fromberg

Additional Notes:
Front windshield has a leak for the second time. The first time it was replaced a year ago, and now the leak is in the top of the windshield frame causing water to leak onto the dash and also on to infotainment screen from the rear view mirror above. Loss and failure of electrical components is a real consternation in regard to this issue. Defect Description:
SUSPENSION
Potential Consequences:
Our 2017 Land Rover Discovery HSE TDi6 has been to the dealer multiple times since purchased new in 2018. This vehicle has several safety issues. First is the random and repeatable shut down of the ABS, Stability, Automatic Braking, Electric steering, windshield leak causing considerable water penetration. The primary concern is the vehicle will lose communication with the ABS, Airbag, Stability, Braking Steering computer at any time while driving. This vehicle had been inspected prior with no known fix. This issue nearly caused an accident on Monday 3-14--2022. Vehicle can be hard to control when the lights on the dash turn on, loss of steering assist and suspension (floating, roughness, swerve etc). Windshield leak started approx 3 weeks ago and there is a strong musty odor. Other items we've had issues with are the infotainment system not starting or freeing up (not booting properly) keeping us from engaging the window defroster. I'm presently more concerned about the potential loss of control with the vehicle. Dealer service times are out several weeks and this is a primary use vehicle for us. I feel these issues are significant enough to warrant further action. I tried uploading images and video but the NHTSA website doesn't appear to be working at this time. I have a catalog of information regarding these issues. Finally, several Land Rover forums have users who experience virtually identical issues as my vehicle. I believe this is a safety issue and could cause an accident if the driver is unaware of the loss of steering, suspension and ABS breaking. Thank you.
