NHTSA Campaign: 24V838000 SAFETY RECALL
206.5K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Nov 7, 2024
Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may incorrectly illuminate the brake lights and disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, the vehicle operator may be able to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

Potential Risk:
A vehicle that can be started and shifted out of Park without applying the brake pedal can result in a vehicle rollaway. Disabled ABS and ESC systems can reduce vehicle handling and control in certain driving situations. Brake lights that incorrectly illuminate can fail to properly indicate the driver's intention to following traffic. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software, as necessary free of charge. Interim owner letters were mailed December 5, 2024. A second notice will be mailed once the final remedy is available, anticipated September 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 94B. Potential Consequences:

Took my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle in as oil was leaking badly , which could have made a dangerous situation. Was told by mechanic that my oil filter adapter had to be replaced. Was advised it was made of plastic and had cracked. The mechanic could not believe there wasn’t already a recall on this part. He replaced it with an aluminum part but this was a costly repair costing close to 1,100.00.

Hello first the vehicle is stock and only has 80k miles. the battery jumper terminals become scorching hot as I got burned by touching them when I inspected the engine area because you can smell a light burn smell. So I have had a mechanic check The vehicles battery and he told me it's getting over charged by the alternator which is is regulated by the internal computer which is extremely pricey to replace. I looked into previous recalls and chrysler had defective parts in Chrysler's recall # U87. I was told by Chrysler my vin was not effected but I feel this is in error as I'm having the exact issue in the mentioned recall.

Potential Consequences:

UConnect Radio - Delamination resulting in unpredictable, repetitive, and erratic touches on the screen. At this point, the screen's protective layer is separating from the display and it is causing ghost touches that activate various functions without my input. This has occurred numerous times throughout my driving experiences and occurs every time I drive. It has led to multiple unsafe consequences while driving, the main concern being that it is distracting and confusing leading to unsafe driving conditions. For example, the navigation system has suddenly switched routes, diverting me unexpectedly causing confusion, and has led to multiple near accidents in busy intersections. Additionally, the volume has randomly increased or decreased, making it hard to hear important sounds from the environment, such as sirens or horns from other vehicles. Had this occurred in a moment in which I needed to react quickly an accident could have occurred or my safety could have been compromised. Moreover, if the radio has inadvertently changed to an unrecognized function—like activating the Bluetooth or starting a call—this has been distracting pulling my attention away from the road in multiple scenarios. The vehicle has made unsolicited calls to emergency personnel which is both a distraction to me and an inconvenience to emergency personnel. Overall, the delaminating screen not only complicates my driving experience but also poses a significant safety risk to myself and others on the road. Addressing the issue promptly is essential to ensure a safe driving environment. I have tried to address this problem with Jeep directly via Uconnect and have been informed that they do not believe this to be a concern that requires addressing. The problem has been diagnosed by a Jeep dealer and has been confirmed by Uconnect directly. Additionally, the problem has occurred in multiple other Jeep vehicles.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Jeep uses a transmission manufactured by ZF. Jeep claims the transmission is "filled for life" and does not require any maintenance, and never requires the oil to be changed. ZF recommends the oil be changed every 50-75,000 miles. Many other car manufacturers that utilize ZF transmissions recommend that same interval. In fact, if you push Jeep to change your transmission oil, they suggest it will void your warranty. Preventative maintenance in the form of a transmission fluid change is necessary for the health and longevity of the vehicle. Jeep is negligent in this matter. When your transmission fails, you are thrust into "limp" mode, capping your speed at 15-20 mph. This occurred to me on the highway. I narrowly avoided being rear ended in traffic traveling 65+ mph. My car has been babied, all factory recommended services have been done in a timely manner, I was not having any issues with the car at the time, and there were no symptoms, warning lights, etc at the time.

Defect Description:

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The touchscreen radio panel is delaminating and causing the system to freak out. Sometimes the radio will turn on by itself and blare out music, or all of the fans will turn on turbo at once. The navigation will freak out and turn off and it will auto-dial or auto-hang up phone calls. Sometimes when I am driving down the high way, the air or radio blasting from out of nowhere and totally unprompted will scare me and cause me to jerk the steering wheel or become significantly distract from the road. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by the dealer, and it is a known defect, but they will not take responsibility for the safety hazard or the cost of replacement. No inspection by any outside parties, yet. No warning signs.. the screen just started to melt/delaminate and then all of the ghost features began causing chaos while driving.
