These engines may also have a reversed camshaft cap that can damage the camshaft bearing causing camshaft failure.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the “Service 4x4” message was displayed. The contact stated that the transmission was shifting rough. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle should not be driven, to prevent further damages. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. I contacted my local Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership and they said my PTU and the sensor for the PTU was going out and needed to be replaced. About 2 weeks after the extended warranty expired on my 2019 Cherokee I began to notice the Service 4 wheel drive message pop up on my dash. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that the PTU was faulty and that it would be $2200 to repair. As I could not afford it at that time I was advised that I could continue to drive without repair although I should not try to change traction modes on my vehicle. I have now gone nearly 3 years without repair and still very much feed that this is a defect that should be repaired by Jeep on all Cherokees that were manufactured around the same time as mine.

The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway to turn the vehicle off.
