Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power and/or loss of park function.

Potential Risk:
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of park function can cause an unintended vehicle rollaway, which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will update the drivetrain control module software and replace the PTU, as necessary free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning February 13, 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated November 2025. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018 Jeep Renegade, Compass and Grand Cherokee, RAM 1500 and Promaster, Fiat 500x, Dodge Journey, Challenger, Charger and Durango and Chrysler 300x vehicles, 2017-2018 Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles and 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid vehicles. The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.

Potential Risk:
A vehicle stall can increase the risk of a crash.

The rear brake caliper pistons on these vehicles may have an insufficient coating causing gas pockets to form, potentially reducing rear brake performance.

Potential Risk:
If the transmission weld fails, the vehicle will stop moving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines. The engines in these vehicles may be missing valve stem keepers, which can allow the valve to drop into the engine cylinder causing engine damage. These engines may also have a reversed camshaft cap that can damage the camshaft bearing causing camshaft failure.

Potential Risk:
Cylinder damage or camshaft failure can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

STEERING

ON DECEMBER 29TH AT ABOUT 5PM, I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH AT 40MPH ON PLYMOUTH SORRENTO RD IN ORANGE COUNTY FL.AS I WAS DRIVING, I HEARD A DING (1 DING ALMOST AS IF MY SEAT BELT WANTS BUCKLED, BUT IT WAS) AND AT THAT TIME, MY JEEP SHUT DOWN IN TRAVEL. THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THE RADIO SHUT OFF AND ALL THE GAUGES, AS I WENT TO CORRECT MY STEERING, TO GET BACK IN THE CENTER OF MY LANE, I REALIZED I HAD NO STEERING CAPABILITIES, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. WHEN I REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED, I BEGAN TO SLOW AND THE CAR CAME BACK ON. THIS ALL TOOK PLACE IN ABOUT 5 SECONDS. WHEN I GOT MY HEAD STRAIGHT AND STARTED BACK HOME, I NOTICED THAT THE RADIO, CONTROL PANEL/GAUGES AND A/C WOULD NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. I COULD NOT CHANGE CHANNEL, TURN AIR OFF, COULDN'T CHANGE VOLUME OR NOTHING. ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES LATER I ARRIVED AT MY HOUSE AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN. THE RADIO CONTINUED TO PLAY. I HAD TO START AND SHUT THE JEEP DOWN THREE TIME IN ORDER FOR THE EQUIPMENT TO SHUT DOWN. I CALLED NAPLETON JEEP OF CLERMONT TO COME TOW THE JEEP IN AND I CALLED CHRYLSER CORP TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD THIS WAS AND PROBLEMS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED. SEARCHING THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL JEEP ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON THING,. I EXPLAINED IT TO ONE OF THE CHRYSLER CORP MANAGERS AND HE SAID IT DIDN'T MATTER HOW MANY VEHICLES THIS HAPPENED TO, THERE IS NO PROBLEM. CHRYSLER HAD THE NAPLETON DEALER DRIVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 90 MILES OVER A WEEK PERIOD AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. AT THAT TIME I GOT A CALL FROM CHRYSLER AND NAPLETON, STATING I CAN PICK MY JEEP UP, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THE JEEP HAD ABOUT 2000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WE HAVE HAD THE JEEP ABOUT 40 DAYS WHEN THIS HAPPENED, AND BECAUSE CHRYSLER COULDN'T RECREATE THE ISSUES, THEY HAVE JUST WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THE PROBLEM.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I LEANED MY 2019 JEEP CHEROKEE BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2018. A WEEK AFTER LEASING IT I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO A STOP SIGN AND IT BEEPED AT ME AND ALL THE POWER SHUT OFF IN THE JEEP. I TRIED TO HIT THE START BUTTON NOTHING. I PUT IT IN PARK AFTER FIGHTING WITH IT TO GO INTO PARK AND TRIED THE START BUTTON AGAIN. NOTHING. SO I WAITED 2 MINUTES AND TRIED AGAIN IT TURNED BACK ON AND WAS FINE FOR THE REST OF THE DRIVE. JANUARY 24 2019 I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING GARAGE AT WORK AND AFTER 4 MINUTES OF IT BEING ON IT SHUT OFF MID DRIVING. SAME THING HAPPENED IT BEEPED AND ALL POWER SHUT OFF. I PUT IT IN PARK AND HIT THE START BUTTON. NOTHING. WAITING 2 MINUTES TRIED AGAIN TURNED ON MADE IT ALL THE WAY HOME. ALSO WHEN I TURN EITHER WAY IT BEEPS AS OF A DOOR IS OPEN. NO DOOR IS OPEN CHECK REPEATEDLY. WHEN I GO OVER A SPEED BUMP IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS GRINDING IN THE BACK END I HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND START AGAIN AFTER THE BUMP OR THE JEEP WILL NOT MOVE. THE RADIO WILL RANDOMLY MAKE A VERY LOUD STATIC NOISE THAT IS EAR PIERCING FOR A SECOND THE IT WILL BE FINE OR IT WILL RESTART THE RADIO IT'S DIFFERENT EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS.

Corrective Action:

1/23/19 8:10 AM FRONT GLASS PANEL OF PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THERE WAS NO ROCK OR OBJECT THAT HIT MY VEHICLE, JUST AN EXPLOSION TYPE NOISE. I PULLED OFF THE FREE AND FOUND NO OBJECTS IN THE SUNROOF WELL. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER WHO FELT ANROCK CAUSED THIS AND COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT HELP ME AND SAID HE'D NEVER HEARD OF THAT. THEY DID NOT EVEN LOG MY VISIT TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO SAID THEY WILL DO ANYTHING SINCE THE SERVICE TECH AT DEALER LOOKED AT AND SAW NO DEFECT TO THE FRAME. FORTUNATELY, I HAD MY INTERIOR PORTION OF THE SUNROOF CLOSED AND MAINTAINED CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. THIS WAS NOT CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRI OR OTHER PRIOR INCIDENT AND JUST EXPLODED. 1/23/19 8:10 AM FRONT GLASS PANEL OF PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THERE WAS NO ROCK OR OBJECT THAT HIT MY VEHICLE, JUST AN EXPLOSION TYPE NOISE. I PULLED OFF THE FREE AND FOUND NO OBJECTS IN THE SUNROOF WELL. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER WHO FELT ANROCK CAUSED THIS AND COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT HELP ME AND SAID HE'D NEVER HEARD OF THAT. THEY DID NOT EVEN LOG MY VISIT TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO SAID THEY WILL DO ANYTHING SINCE THE SERVICE TECH AT DEALER LOOKED AT AND SAW NO DEFECT TO THE FRAME. 2019 JEEP CHEROKEE LATTITUDE- ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW I REACHED 4000 MILES AND I WAS DRIVING TO WORK MY CAR DIED AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, CAR WENT INTO FAILURE MODE SO WAS HARD TO STEER AND MY FLASHERS WOULD NOT GO ON, I SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TRIED TO RESTART AND THE CAR HESITATED AND TURNED OVER. TWO WEEKS LATER SAME THING IN THE SAME EXACT SPOT. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO SURESKY THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY SAID ITS BECAUSE IT NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE. ONCE THEY COMPLETED MY OIL CHANGE THEY TOLD ME MY OIL WAS BARELY ON THE DIPSTICK. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR WITH 6000 MILES WITH SYNTHETIC OIL I SHOULDNT HAVE OIL LOSS. I HAVE READ ONLINE THERE ARE 188 OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME ISSUE. I AM AFRAID TO LET MY KIDS DRIVE THIS DUE TO DRIVER INEXPERIENCE.
