Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2017 Tucson and Sonata Hybrid vehicles. The connecting rod bearings inside the engine may wear prematurely, which can result in engine damage.

Potential Risk:
A damaged engine can increase the risk of a fire or it can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the engine. If bearing damage is found, the engine will be replaced. Dealers will also install a software update containing a new Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners were notified of the defect on November 16, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed January 15, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 209.

Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles on September 4, 2020. On December 30, 2020, Hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 Tucson vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.

Potential Risk:
An engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury or crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HECU fuse. For 2019-2021 model years, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software will also be updated. Recall repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. The recall began November 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 195.

Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Tucson vehicles manufactured May 19, 2015, to November 14, 2016, and 2017 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured November 28, 2015, to November 14, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness that, due to a malfunction of the tow hitch module, may result, in the trailer brake lights being constantly illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Potential Risk:
If the trailer brake lights stay illuminated while being used, other drivers may be confused, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected accessory trailer hitch wiring harnesses, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 13, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 153.

OPENING THE HOOD REVEALED A FIRE FROM UNDER THE ENGINE TOP COWLING AND ON THE FELT HOOD LINER. A FIRE EXTINGUISHER (A,B,C) IN THE GARAGE WAS USED TO QUICKLY EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE DID NOT SPREAD BEYOND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

I CAN SAY I TRULY REGRET NOT JUST REPAIRING IT BECAUSE THE TUCSON EVEN THOUGH IT HAS SOME UPTO DATE FEATURES AND THE RIDE IS A GREAT ONCE IS GETS GOING HAS A HORRIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT I FEAR IS GOING TO GET ME IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CARS TRANSMISSION STUTTERS AND CHATTERS AT LOW SPEEDS LIKE IT CAN'T DECIDE WHICH GEAR IT WANTS TO BE IN. ON QUICK ACCELERATIONS IT HESITATES SO BADLY THAT I HAVE TIME TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE GAS AND APPLY THE BRAKE THEN IT LURCHES FORWARD AND ONCE I BRAKE THE ENGINE IS STILL RACING. I HAVE THE SAME LACK OF THROTTLE RESPONSE WITH MY VEHICLE. THE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED NEARLY 10 TIMES WHICH STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 150 MILES ON THE BRAND NEW VEHICLE. FROM A STOP OR EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN ACCELERATOR IS FULLY COMPRESSED. AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF LIGHT REMAINS ON WHENEVER AN ADULT WEIGHING MORE THA 120 LBS ARE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WITH A SMALL PILLOW OR SEAT CUSHION ON THE SEAT. PILLOW IS NEEDED TO ENHANCE SEATING COMFORT, ESPECIALLY ON LONG ROAD TRIPS. LIGHT DOES WORK WHEN PILLOW IS NOT USED. UNFORTUNATELY, SEAT IS POORLY DESIGNED THAT REQUIRES ADDITIONAL AFTER MARKET SUPPORT TO MAKE IT USABLE ON LONG TRIPS. SENSOR NEED TO DETECT PASSENGER WEIGHT WITH OR WITHOUT ADDITIONAL CUSHIONS OR ACTIVATE THE AIRBAG 100% OF THE TIME. I HAVE ALREADY REPORTED THIS TO HYUNDAI, CASE NUMBER 10626629. THEY CLAIMED THE LIGHT IS WORKING AS DESIGNED, ONLY WHEN USED WITHOUT AFTER MARKET CUSHION. MY RESPONSE IS THAT IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT IN DESIGN, IT OBVIOUSLY FAILED IN DETECTING THE TOTAL WEIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT. I BELIEVE THAT HYUNDAI WOULD BE AT FAULT SHOULD THE AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING AN ACCIDENT AND THE PASSENGER IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THERE ARE ADDITIONAL REASONS TO USE CUSHIONS FOR HEALTH OR HANDICAPPED PERSON, FOR EXAMPLE. HOW HARD IS IT TO DETECT TOTAL WEIGHT OF MORE THAN 90 LBS ON TOP OF THAT SEST? THE LIGHT REMAINS OFF WHEN CAR IS MOVING OR STOPPED. IN ADDITION, I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED NO ACCELERATION ON A LEFT TURN WHEN STEPPED ON GAS, AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED BY OTHER'S. RIGHT AWAY I NOTICED A CHANGE IN HOW THE VEHICLE DROVE. HOWEVER NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED DRIVING LIKE IT DID PRIOR TO THE "FIX". POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. WHEN STOPPED AND THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, ACCERATION IS EXTREMELY SLOW AND AFTER 3-5 SECONDS OF DEPRESSING THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WILL FINALLY ACCELERATE AS NORMAL. IT OCCURS WITH AND WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AND IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

Corrective Action:
