Safety Issue:

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with diesel engines. The transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock-up.

Potential Risk:
Rear wheel lock-up can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge. GM will provide a special coverage program to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. Owner notification letters were mailed December 12, 2024. Safety Issue:

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 vehicles equipped with certain accessory road tires and a 17" spare tire. The 17" spare tire provided with the vehicle is not compatible for use with the accessory wheels, which can cause the anti-lock brake system (ABS) to not function properly under certain conditions.

Potential Risk:
An ABS system that does not function properly can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will provide a new 17" spare tire and wheel assembly that is compatible with the accessory wheels, free of charge. Dealers will also apply a new spare tire information label, and provide owners with an owner's manual insert clarifying which spare tire to use with the accessory road tires and with the 17" original tires. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT4, XT5, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, 2018-2021 Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana, 2019-2020 Chevrolet Blazer, Silverado 1500, GMC Acadia, Sierra 1500, and certain Continental tires sold to the aftermarket for various model year 2018-2021 vehicles. The affected tires were cured for too long during production.

Potential Risk:
Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall resulting in sudden air loss or a belt edge separation which could lead to a tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 22, 2021. The seat belt brackets may not be secured to the seat frame in the front-row center seating position.

Potential Risk:
If a seat-belt bracket is not secured, the seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the front-row center seat position, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect left-side and right-side front-row center seat-belt bracket attachments and reassemble it correctly as necessary, free of charge. Potential Risk:
Overcured tires may experience a carcass break in the sidewall resulting in a sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation which could lead to partial or full tread/belt loss. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect vehicles and replace tires that have DOT number and production mold number combinations identified by Continental, free of charge. The diffuser component of the Roof-Rail Air Bag (RRAB) inflator may not have been properly crimped to the inflator and could separate from the inflator during air bag deployment.

Potential Risk:
If the diffuser separates from the inflator during deployment, RRAB performance may be degraded, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.

Potential Risk:
An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. GM issued owners an interim notification on February 4, 2020. GM issued second notice and the recall began March 9, 2019. Potential Consequences:

I have taken my vehicle to 3 seperate mechanics (GMC, AAMCO and Independent). They all agree that my valve body inside the transmission must be replaced. The problem is that valve bodies are on a national back order and cannot be fullfilled for months, putting my transmission at risk for further failure. Reading online forums, there are many GMC owners facing this same issue. The mechanics at GMC are requesting that I change out my entire transmission, since that will be a quicker solution than waiting months for that valve body. Now, I am being told that they are having difficulty locating an original manufactured transmission. This puts me in a serious bind because my truck is my only vehicle and there are no valve bodies or transmissions to fix this issue. My truck is only a 2020 and I just surpassed 100k miles. There were no dashboard warning lights that indicated my trucks problem. Only the fact that my truck is shuddering when shifting gears and that a diagnostic tool had to find the source of the problem. This problem started about 5 months ago and has progressivly gotten worse.

Defect Description:

Potential Consequences:

1) Complete Engine Failure. Vehicle is no longer is in possession for inspection but pictures and video can be provided. 2) My Truck stalled at 70 MPH going down the interstate. I was lucky to be driving in the right lane to glide to a complete stop. This could have been way worse, not just for myself but for others. 3) Shortly after the loss of propulsion on the interstate. The engine started knocking very loud and I brought it into Boucher GMC of Brookfield. After about a week, the conclusion was I needed a new Engine. The Bearings, camshaft, rods and other components within the engine were damaged. The dealership said it was because of Bad Oil. 4) Parts were inspected and Dealership provided pictures. Not sure what they did with the junk parts. 5) I initially brought in the vehicle where it was purchased at Kunes of Stoughton WI for a Check engine light that read a P06DD error code at 56472 miles on the truck. They performed a software update and sent me on way. Since then, I was dealing with a on and off engine light which eventually brought me to a engine replacement at about 70,000 miles. None of this was covered under warranty and I had to pay for all of this out of pocket. In the events of all this. GMC had my truck for about 3 months. I had to purchase another vehicle because it was cheaper then renting one, GMC didn't have a loaner I could use. I could not perform my everyday work tasks besides getting to and from work, because I did not have a truck to carry my everyday work tools. Now understanding the full impact of this faulty engine and that I could have done harm to others or my self, has me worried about driving a GM vehicle. After I received the new engine, approximately 2000 miles later, The new engine, not rebuilt started making a knocking noise, only to find out, it was the same issue after bringing it to the dealership. No engine lights or nothing. People should be scared to drive a vehicle with the L87 engine from GM.

I have had two engine failures within 2 years of buying a new GMC truck. The first occurred at 24,181 miles whereas i found engine failures is an all to common occurrence with these 5.3 liter engines, failures are wide spread, tons of complaints can be found with a simple internet or youtube search. Several service bulletins have been issues including reworking vehicles on dealers lots to replace faulty components but in my case i had over 16000 miles so they put the same parts in again and did not touch the other side which then failed two years later at in my case both were attributed collapsed lifter. Had this not happened on a side street , I would have been involved in an accident. I ended up paying $865.42 plus towing for this repair I should not be paying for. I had no warning this was about to happen. No check engine light went on , etc. Most of my route home is on the highway . Had this not happened on a side street , I would have been involved in an accident. I ended up paying $865.42 plus towing for this repair I should not be paying for. The people at the GM dealer told me this has been happening on numerous GM pick up trucks. This is NOT a maintenance issue or an isolated case. I was about 45 miles or so from home on [XXX]. As I left a business my truck went about 100 feet and the engine stopped working . No warning. Truck was towed to a GM dealer in Wilmington Il. It was determined the cause was due to the wiring from the engine ECM that was run over the top of a very sharp plastic mounting bracket for the ECM. The wire had been cut because of the way this was done at the factory. In addition the fuel pump also needed to be replaced . At the time of this, the truck had 39,140 miles on it. Had water leaking into cab of truck. First incident they stated it was a rear window seal and it was "repaired" under warranty. Second incident I was advised it was body panel separation where the cab roof and side body seam was leaking. It was repaired by sealing with "body seam sealer." I later read these repairs should have been welded. This was after the warranty expired and I had to pay for it. I then read on the Silverado/Sierra forum this repair should have been a weld not just "glued" is this a safety issue?
