Defect Description:

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

Ever since we bought the car in mid-2023, we have been getting "Front camera fault" and "Pre-Collision Assist not available" error messages, at first intermittent and now constant. The errors pop up every time we turn on the car, and sometimes while driving as well, which is distracting and annoying. In addition, the cruise control doesn't work at all, and these front camera and pre-collision assist functions (which are safety features of the car) do not work. We brought the vehicle to two dealers for this same problem well within the warranty period and neither was able to fix it. We have tried to get these errors fixed on multiple occasions with no luck so far. Hansel Ford of Petaluma has our car and is now telling us it will cost $2806.21 to replace the IPMA module to fix the problem, and that it is not covered under warranty. Ford has a TSB addressing the issue: TSB 23-2155. I have spoken with Ford Customer Care on multiple occasions asking for assistance and they have failed to provide any help. This issue is widely reported on Mach-E forums as a known and frequent safety issue.

Potential Consequences:

The electrical system failed. Issue was it disengaged the 12 volt system as well. Vehicle seized and stopped in the middle of a high usage road with no ability to put into neutral. After 2 hours of blocking traffic The tow truck arrived ( was a rainy day) and within a minute hooked up a 12 volt battery and drove the vehicle off the road way. This is not acceptable and needs to be addressed. My claim number with Ford is: case [XXX]. Thank you. Feel free to contact me in any further information is needed. While the vehicle was being charged, the Ford app showed a charge fault error. The vehicle was undriveable. While using a diagnostic tool, it showed there was a failure with the BCM and DTC: P0AA2 and P0D10 were retrieved. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V412000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, opened a case, and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 19,000.

My cameras will not work and the screen will be black. Anytime I reverse or come too close to an object the cameras will show, but since there is a problem with the camera wire the image is just a black screen. This is a serious safety issue that Ford has yet to address and I have notified them about it, with an image and video of the problem.

Potential Consequences:

The forward collision detection system failed first. Then the car suddenly would not move and gave a pull over immediately warning on the dash and also flashed a battery light. It was 15 degrees outside and my wife and son were stuck in the cold. Not a safe environment. This is inexcusable for a car to be driving fine on minute and to be completely inoperative the next.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

Front camera fault. Pre collision systems don’t work without it. Large online community with the same issues but ford refuses to acknowledge it’s an issue. They won’t help even if errors start happening before warranty is over. And once warranty is over they charge large amounts to fix. There is a TSB out for the issue and it seems like a pinched coaxial cable. Our safety is at stake and the number of occurrences can’t not be random.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The car had an issue with the 12V battery which caused it to be completely disabled and unresponsive to the key fob and phone as a key. My wife had gotten out of the car without knowing this had happened and went to the rear door to let out our infant son, but the door would not open. We called emergency services and roadside assistance. AAA arrived first and tried to open the lock but were unsuccessful. I had to smash the window to open the door and rescue my son. Emergency services arrived after I had already done this. The only reason I know it was an issue with the 12V battery is because the Ford dealership told me after I had the car towed there for inspection. The only way to open the car in this situation is to use a portable jumper to jump two wires hidden in the bumper which open the Frunk. Then you need to jump the actual battery that is located in the frunk. It does not have a mechanical release for the doors. This supposed fix is highly dangerous as it requires one to have a readily available jumper and the 12V battery needs to be completely drained in this scenario. In my case, this didn’t work even when the Ford technician arrived. The only possible way to get in was to break through a laminated glass window which was incredibly difficult to break even with the correct tool to do it.
