Defect Description:

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I bought a 2020 Ford Expedition 2 years ago and since the first day I have had issues with the transmission. I will be driving on the highway, and it will throw me into a lower gear, and I cannot accelerate or do anything until a loud bang is heard and the transmission goes back into the correct gear. I have had the expedition into the dealership and each time been told there is nothing wrong with it. I came across a lawsuit for F150 for the same issue and brought it to the dealerships attention and they told me they did not know anything about that and that nothing was wrong with my Expedition. I finally caught what it does on video and sent it to the dealership and they stopped responding to me after I sent the proof over. This has put not only myself but my children and husband in danger. When this happens, a wrench pops up on the display screen and then goes away.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

Issue is with Ford 10R80 transmission. While at freeway speeds ( 60/65 MPH) transmission is engaged in 8th/9th gear and you command vehicle to downshift to a passing gear (3rd for example) with a 3/4 throttle input - the gear indicator light shows 1st gear ( which is not possible going 60MPH ), but the vehicle falls into a false neutral basically loosing all power. The RPMs will rev all the way up, and you have to take your foot off of the accelerator and allow approx. 5 seconds of "coasting" before the vehicle is able to get itself back into a gear to resume power. This failure happens basically on command, and you aren't able to apply more than 1/2 throttle while driving down the freeway. Reported defect to Peoria Ford who told me no TSB exists for this issue and they aren't able to fix anything because no DTC error codes exist in the computer so I need to come pick up the vehicle. I am not forced out of a Ford rental and back into a vehicle with a known safety defect according to your TSB bulletin 22-2428. Ford needs to recall these unsafe vehicles off the road instead of currently waiting for the warranties to run out on all of them so they aren't liable for repairs. This is a well known/documented safety problem and needs to be addressed ASAP with a nationwide recall. Also, power running boards fail to deploy causing a fall hazard ( my pregnant wife has fallen out and in of the vehicle because the step isnt there. If referencing the picture below : 1st gear, no power/boost gauge shows 0, vehicle is going 60 MPH on the freeway.

The transmission does not operate properly. It frequently searches between gears when shifting and then shifts hard into the next gear. It makes loud clunking noises when decelerating. Numerous times when shifting from park to reverse the vehicle lurches. I brought the vehicle to the Ford dealer in March of 2023. The dealer stated they could not duplicate any issue that was not normal. Over time this has gotten worse. I have a second appointment with the dealer scheduled.

Vehicle had transmission rebuilt per dealership to fix transmission jerking and skipping/getting stuck in gears both on HWY and regular roads. Since rebuilt happened less than 90 days ago, my Ford EXP. is still doing the same thing. This past week alone it has happened to me 3 times. Instance on reg road going from about 10-15mph to accelerate and pressed on the gas and vehicle would not move and jerked until it shifted and was able to speed up twice this happened between gears 2-4 this happened. Next time this happened family was on hwy heading out of town while on hwy shifting lanes vehicle jerked and transmission noises happened louder than other times and vehicle got stuck on gears 6-8 when finally able to move normally. We were told when the dealership rebuilt the transmission since warranty would not cover a new one, that this should fix the problem or maybe think of trading my truck in for a newer one.(really not the answer I was looking for). Ford needs to take responsibility for these Expeditions coming out faulty. I had already send to shop right after transmission rebuilt and they could not do anything because they could not reproduce the issue again so here I am 60 days later and again with the same issue
