Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

488.6K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles. These vehicles may have door striker bolts that are shorter than intended. Vehicles with shorter door striker bolts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components" potentially resulting in the doors opening in the event of a crash.

Potential Risk:
If the doors open in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door striker bolts, free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C06.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I took my car in for Ford Recalls to be performed and asked for the tech to check out why my Check engine light came on. Initially they could not find what caused it so they charged me close to $500 to do an in depth investigation and found that I had a crack in my engine that was causing coolant to leak into it. It could not be repaired and I would have to replace the engine. My car only had just over 65,000 miles on it, and unfortunately just over the warranty. So I was charged $7,000 to replace it. When I called the main Ford Customer Service number I was told that this seems to be a common issue with this year and model but there was nothing that I could do about it, short of a recall being issued for the engine problem. I had no other choice but to replace the engine as driving it could leave me stranded somewhere which was not an option. I was without the use of my car for three weeks with no assistance from Ford. The fact that this is a known issue but still was not covered is ridiculous. I previously owned a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport with over 300,000 miles on it and never had an issue with my engine. I believe that since this is a known issue with this Ford year, make and model that there should be recall issued so that consumers are not having to deal with this very expensive inconvenience. Thank you.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I own a 2018 ford edge sel whose flex plate has cracked. Ford has stated that their edge models between the years 2015-2018 have faulty flex plates, which are prone to cracking and shattering. I noticed a change one day in how the vehicle was running, and the next day heard the rattle coming from the engine. I took it to a shop I trust and with a quick inspection they determined that it was in fact, a broken flex plate. The estimated cost that was was quoted was at minimum $1640.00. I've contacted ford about the issue, which they've acknowledged, but because I'm over the milage for financial support from them, they refused to help me. This has put a massive strain on me due to the fact that the car is my only source of transportation, and beyond that, has caused me a loss financially due to its negative effect on my work. This is a serious issue that ford has publicly acknowledged, but refuses to take responsibility for. It is not only financially straining, but dangerous for anyone whose vehicle is affected by this faulty part. All I want is for the issue to be resolved, be reimbursed for the money I've had to pay out of pocket for the repair due to faulty parts that ford has already acknowledged. I ask that you take this complaint serious and hold the ford motor company accountable for the issues they have caused and acknowledged in these models.
