Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2024 BMW X5. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, attempting to depress the brake pedal however there was a reduction in the power assist braking leading to the vehicle crashing into another vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into the rear end of the other. The crash occurred on an unstated off-ramp from a highway to a main street. My 2024 BMW X5 has been on recall which is The Integrated Brake (IB) system/ safety recall since February, 2024. The brake system is not functioning properly and sometimes the car brakes automatically by itself which is a concerning issue and may lead to a crash. I have reached out BMW of Silver Spring many times they just don't care and they keep saying we can not do anything at this time and I even drove there couple times to talk to them at the dealership they keep saying same thing we are waiting for the parts. I received a call from one of their service department people called Alex said we have the parts available and we can service your vehicle I was out of town for work and when I came back to Virginia and drove to dealership and asked the same person who called me about the recall repair he said we don't have the parts available and we can not do anything at this time. I told him you called me that you guys have it available and I was out of town and when I returned to Virginia and drove from Stafford, Virginia all the way to BMW of Silver Spring, Maryland for 2 hours with traffic and he kept lying to me that we have to wait and he said he will call me soon in few weeks but it has been months he never called me. and I called him and asked him you never called me how are we going to solve this issue or BMW needs take care of this issue he said I have to call the Corporate I called BMW corporate they keep saying we don't have any answer or we can't tell how long does it take. so the car has been on safety recall for 6 months now and BMW has failing to solve this issue and I have had the worst experience with BMW.

While driving on a highway, several lights illuminated on my dashboard instrument cluster, including the ABS light, a red BRAKE light, a yellow PARK light, and the dynamic stability control light. The message center reported to "drive carefully" however none of this appeared urgent. I decided I should maybe test my breaks as I was curious what the problem was. I then proceeded to gently tap my brakes to see what all of this meant, and to my horror, my brake pedal went completely to the ground with no brakes initiated. Thankfully, I was able to move over onto the shoulder and coast to a stop and place my car in Park. The emergency brake would not initiate. This could have ended terribly awful.

My 2024 BMW X5 50e has stranded me three times now due to "Drivetrain Malfunction". Each time my safety has been at extreme risk due to driving on busy streets and interstate in Atlanta. Fortunately, today I had not made it to the interstate or I would have been in a the worst possible situation with my X5 locking down and shutting off with no notice. Given my long commute, I can no longer take the risk of driving the X5 50e. BMW NA should be held responsible and no one's safety should be at risk that BMW has put us in given this problem seems to be a common occurrence.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The bell housing of the car is currently emitting a whistling / rusty tricycle sound at low RPMS (1500-2200 rpms / 30 miles per hour or under). I have had the car in for service. During the last visit, BMW kept it for 30 days and only compared it to the sound of other cars. In being able to duplicate the sound, they stated that the sound is normal. BMW reached its conclusion without conducting any physical inspection of the bell housing and its related components to see why the parts are making the noise. They have no idea as to why the car is generating the noise. My shop foreman wrote the following to my advisor to share with me: "..I narrowed down the noise. Noise is possibly mechanical and coming from bell housing area. Created Tsara case and provided information to BMW and video to see what are the next steps we are going to be taking. I would like to remove the transmission and inspect toque converter and flywheel but need there authorization." But again, because BMW was able to duplicate the noise in other cars, they will not authorize any work to determine the true nature of the sound. In doing so, they cannot, in my opinion, say whether this is a safety issue or not. Imagine traveling at a high speed on the freeway and the power train fails! My foreman remains committed to determining the root cause of the problem. As this is the first year with the hybrid engine, BMW should be required to determine the true nature of the sound and determine if it is a safety concern. A physical inspection of the components is a must!
