2017-2018 Kia Forte Oil Pressure Warning

On 2021-04-19 11:27:04

Kia Motors will be contacting the owners of some 2017-2018 Forte vehicles equipped with 2.0L Nu MPI engines because of a problem that could cause the oil pump in their cars to fail.

According to the description of the defect, a sharp edge on the engine oil pump relief plunger could attract foreign particles not captured by the oil filter. When these particles become stuck on the sharp edge, it could reduce the oil pressure and engine lubrication. If this condition occurs, abnormal engine noise and illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or oil pressure warning lamp can occur. A vehicle continually operated with this condition could result in engine damage and a loss of engine power.

Kia will be notifying owners of affected vehicles with instructions to return to their Kia dealer to have the oil pan replaced. Kia's number for this recall is SC210 and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V-257. The recall is expected to begin June 11, 2021.
