Recall Date: Dec 28, 2020
Safety Issue:

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2018-2020 MTT9GT (Tracer GT), 2019 MXTGTKL (NIKEN GT), 2017-2020 MT10, 2018-2020 XTZ12 (Super Tnr), 2013-2020 FJR13, 2018 XV19B (Star Eluder), and 2018-2021 XV19 (Star Venture) motorcycles. FREE Recall Solution:
Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake switch, free of charge. The recall began January 20, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Manufacturer issued recall number 20V814000 in January 2021. Through telephone calls with repair dealer, I was told they did not have parts available. In April 2022, I visited repair dealer to have recall performed. Was told no part available. I have been waiting for more than six months for replacement part, repair dealer has provided numerous estimated arrival times for part; however, the part still has not arrived. I am told the vehicle is unsafe to ride; however, the manufacturer has failed to provide a replacement part for almost two years.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine unexpectedly sputtered and quit while traveling on a narrow two-lane road with no place to pull off to the side. Engaged emergency flashers to alert oncoming traffic. The bike would not restart. Was able to get a tow after a couple of hours. Mileage on the motorcycle was 19,354 miles. 1. Starter was inspected by dealer and found magnets in starter had come loose from the housing and disintegrated. Starter was rendered inoperable. 2. Once the starter and battery were replaced, the engine would still not start. Dealer tore down the engine to find damaged camshafts and lifters. Yamaha recommended replacing camshafts, lifters, pushrods and all related gaskets and o-rings. Several owners of these bikes have had this problem as evidenced by postings in multiple online user groups.
