Potential Consequences:

This is a 2022 Winnebago Travato 59G on the 2021 Ram Promaster. We have already done the two recalls on the Carefree Awning at Meridian ID Camping World, most recent in May 2024. #22V-696, 23V-627. The van has been driven in town a few times since the most recent recall fix with no incident. Now the awning noisily deployed when the ignition was turned ON. I turned the engine off, awning stopped about 75% out. We were luckily NOT parked next to anything that could have been damaged and were not away from home. Awning cannot be extended or retracted and the van cannot be driven. It is in our driveway. Dealer contacted, but cannot come out to look at it before 08/16/24. No other symptoms occurred beforehand. I will also be contacting Winnebago on 08/13.

EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER

Potential Consequences:

Upon leaving our campground on the morning of 11/30/2023 we were driving out on paved campground exit road at about 10MPH when Carefree awning on our 2022 Winnebago Travato suddenly and without warning fully extended in an uncontrolled fashion. We pulled over immediately and determined how to manually retract the awning with a socket wrench. Upon manually retracting the awning it was still not secured and reeled completely out again. We repeated the manual retraction and this time secured the awning by tying nylon straps around both ends of the awning. It is also worth noting that power switch to the awning was OFF when this occurred. This awning had the previous recall completed (22V696000) Have since learned there is a new recall (23V627000) It appears to me this failure is mechanical in nature and not electrical or software. It also seems that Carefree /Winnebago should instruct all owners of these awnings to not only not use them, but to also secure them with straps or zip ties. An awning should not be able to completely deploy while in motion without any user inputs and the unit being in an electrical off position. There is a home security video on a Facebook Travato users group that captures the exact nature of the awning uncontrolled extension we experienced (only difference is we were driving)

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My safety complaint is for a 2022 Winnebago Travato RV which has a Ram Pro Master Chassis with solar panels on roof. It has two solar panels that are 12" X 18" and 36" X 36" mounted about 4 to 6 inches horizontal above the roof line. The problem is that at higher speeds the flow of wind makes a very strong Turbulence and causes the RV to shutter and vibrate and very hard to control. If a gust of wind comes and you are not ready you could loose control of the RV and crash. Winnebago is aware of this issue since 2020 and has not done any thing about it. All they tell me that this doesn't happen with all Travato's which I find hard to understand since that are all made the same. There is so many complaints out on the web about this issue. My Travato was at the dealer for more then a month and they agreed that this is a issue but they can't doing any work until Winnebago comes up with a fix to the issue. I don't know why Winnebago engineering staff can't see that you need to put a wind deflector in front and behind the solar panels to stop the positive and negative air pressure to stop all this vibration. I have had my RV for 3 months and it has been at the dealer for most of the time. I won't drive it on the open highway because it is unsafe at higher speeds and I don't want kill my family or someone else's family.
