Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
This motorcycle has a button controlled LED information display on the left handlebar. The buttons scroll through trip time, average MPG, instant MPG, odometer, trip distance, and range to empty. I need this information to ride safely. I have experienced a failure of this system whenever I have ridden approximately 50 miles or one hour. At that point, the display freezes on whichever element is currently displayed and cannot be changed. I was an hour from home when this first happened and needed to ride home with only the odometer displayed. i have taken the bike back to the Dealer who has not been able to replicate the failure during short test rides. However, the Dealer's technician did see the frozen display when he came to my house to pick up the bike one time. It had unfrozen by the time he got it back to their shop. The system is made up of two elements: the switch element on the left handlebar and the basic computer which generates the information. The dealer has replaced the computer but not the switch box. The problem has not been solved. I would like for them to next replace the switch and display panel on the left handlebar.
