Recall Date: Nov 22, 2017
Safety Issue:

Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V758-5764.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Potential Risk:
In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Thor will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-500-1020, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Defect Description:

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

The front entry area and steps are falling down leaving an opening between the lower step and door (pictures in attached file). Every time we enter the coach the steps sag, drop, and the floor dips. What if we or someone falls as the steps drop, or falls through the floor? We are also concerned if they will just fall out while we are driving down the road?! When inspected by the Camping World Service Technician, the attachment bolts that hold the step box to the main flooring frame screws broke and the box and steps are falling down. He showed me the screws were improperly installed during manufacturing and described in writing what must be done to correct, and I forwarded the repair order (attached file) to Thor Motor Coach (TMC). TMC replied they will only advise. The Technician completed the Safety Recall 20V-804 for the Overhead Cabinets falling down on my Coach and is waiting for the TMC special tool for the Coach Windows Safety Recall. We noticed it about a year ago, however it has continued to get worse the past several months. We believe this is safety for us and others!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I was driving when the vehicle suddenly lost power; as it coasted to a stop, the cabin filled with gas smell. I stopped the vehicle and noticed significant amount of gasoline dripping from the engine. The vehicle was towed and service personnel determined the fuel line, specifically the plastic part that was clipped to the engine fuel rail, had catastrophically failed. The plastic clip separated from the metal end of the fuel line. This plastic piece is supposed to be permanently molded to the metal line. Once separated, the fuel line was still under pressure and pumping fuel directly on the engine, and was a significant fire hazard. I have the portion of the old line that failed. Ford replacement part number is 9C2Z*9S273*P Ford refused to replace part under power train warranty. The vehicle miles is ~10k and has been in service for 4 years.
