subaru impreza 2010 Complaints

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

engine failure due to complete loss of oil pressure in 2006 subaru impreza wrx limited sportwagon.

Reported in: GAITHERSBURG MD || Crash: N || VIN #: JF1GG79666G

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

before the failure white smoke came out the tailpipe and the engine was hesitating. piston #4 had a failed ringland causing the engine to fail. to correct the failure the engine had to be taken apart at the dealer and have new parts installed. the car was out of my possession for two weeks. the car had only ~8000 miles on it and it appears to be a very common problem on 2008-2010+ subaru impreza sti's.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

first failure was my clutch due to the pressure plate being installed incorrectly from the factory and was warranted. second failure was an air fuel sensor which also was covered under warranty. third failure was my 4th cylinder cracked piston. the dealership which has been the same that i have gone to for all my service and warranty refused to warranty the pistons because of an aftermarket exhaust which was installed for the first two warranty failures mentioned above. i was forced to pay out of pocket to have the repairs done!

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

subaru has an inherent brake defect in their 2010-2011 subaru wrx and wrx sti model cars. the brake sensor in new cars is faulty causing system failure with regards to anti-lock brakes. when brakes are used in a panic situation they lock up causing drivers to lose control with the road and do not provide anti-lock brakes. drivers are unaware of the brake defect because subaru has not issued a proper recall in regards to this issue.

Reported in: PITTSBURGH PA || Crash: Y || VIN #: JF1GE7G67AG

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

premature brake wear on rear brakes. both metal on metal. dealer replaced rotors and pads at no cost. but i do not think this addressed the real problem. i have never had a vehicle wear out the rear brake pads in such a short amount of time not even the front brakes.

ENGINE

engine completely seized while driving on the highway without any warning from the car's computer engine seizure was due to all of the oil leaking out of the engine from the oil filter area. this was a slow leak over a 5 month period. the biggest concern here is that the car's computer system did nothing to warn me of this impending catastrophic failure. no oil lights ever came on, no cel ever came on, the oil temperature gauge never moved from the middle. from the time the slight knocking in the engine started to the time of the engine seizing was probably less then 5 minutes. even during the engine knocking no warning lights or cel came on at all. if i was not such an experienced driver i think this could have ended as a very bad accident. i could see somebody else being in a very scary and dangerous situation to have your engine completely seize up and stop while driving down the highway at a high rate of speed (68 mph) resulting in an immediate power loss, loss of power steering and loss of full breaking power while trying to navigate to the right side of the road safely. upon alerting subaru of america and the local dealership about this they did not show any sense of concern about this issue. if a car has no oil in it and the engine seizes while driving without any warning from the cars computer this seems like a severe liability and faulty design in the cars computer safety features. subaru of america just did not seemed concern about this issue at all so i feel obligated to make this issue be known to prevent any possible future instances of this happening and hopefully alerting subaru of america to this problem so they can review this and fix this issue for other subaru impreza wrx drivers and the safety of their occupants and other cars on the road. i am very, very thankful this did not happen when my children were in the car with me.

SERVICE BRAKES

the clutch pedal on my 2010 subaru impreza wrx makes a loud creaking noise every time it's depressed. when i investigated the noise, i noticed that the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly (attached to the forward firewall) shifts approx 1/4 inch every time the clutch pedal is depressed. i found that the three spot welds securing the clutch pedal bracket to the forward firewall were broken. from the outside of the firewall, just under the windshield wipers, i saw the spot welds pulling away from the firewall every time the clutch pedal was depressed. this allows the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly to move, causing the creaking noise. if the bracket completely separates from the firewall, the clutch may become completely inoperative - especially dangerous while driving.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

the passenger side airbag on my 2010 subaru impreza is intermittently disabled, even with a 125 pound adult occupying the seat. shifting your weight in the seat may enable the airbag, but it will usually become disabled again while driving. this seems like a potential safety hazard and is very concerning. i've seen similar complaints on different websites; is subaru considering a recall or does someone have to get injured first?

AIR BAGS

i was going on 60 and crashed on median by front part, and flipped over by side from reaction of crash. i weight 115 pound and 5'4''. i broke my bone even though i was wearing seat belt. i had to be at hospital all day to get my brain damage check and bunch of xrays and ct scans because accident was so big. every single doctors told me i was lucky i survived from that accident. i paralyzed for approximately 6 hours after accident. my car have big frontal damage that is considered as totaled. i and every single people thinks and wonder howcome my airbag did not work at this time? it should of deploy. also i always got checked and repaired my car from subaru bodyshop. and i bought this vehicle as new. i am thinking to sue subaru for selling my car with mechanical defect.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

driving in heavy traffic at 65-70mph the sun visor just dropped down blocking my vision. there was no immediate fix as being on the road you can't pull over and just do something with it. i therefore had to hold the visor in place for several miles. once i was able to pull over there was still no fix, holding the visor in place and driving with one hand in heavy traffic is a hazard for myself and others on the road. i drove for several days like this trying everything from paper in the visor to electrical tape i had purchased hoping to hold it up. nothing worked. when heading back from nevada i decided to use a rubber band to criss cross it and secure it to the handle you use to get into the car. now this was nice except i was heading east and every morning when i left my hotel i could not put the visor down driving into the blinding sun. the sun visor is definitely a safety hazard and should be addressed by subaru, not just the fact you have to replace with no recourse.

SERVICE BRAKES

my 2010 wrx sti hatchback is making a creaking/flexing/bending sound every time i depress my clutch pedal. i started to notice this about a month after i purchased my vehicle and at first i thought it was just a noise issue and upon further research i noticed that my clutch pedal/brake assembly is flexing and the spot welds are failing on the firewall. i have taken it to multiple dealerships in virginia and they all have said it is "normal" and refused to work on it saying my warranty has expired. i am not sure if the vehicle is safe to drive or if the assembly will stop working causing an accident, injury or death.
