Polaris Industries Inc.
NHTSA Campaign: 23V466000 SAFETY RECALL
22.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jul 3, 2023
Safety Issue:

Polaris Industries Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain 2020 Slingshot GT, 2021-2023 Slingshot S, Slingshot S Tech, 2020-2023 Slingshot R, Slingshot SL, and 2022-2023 Slingshot SLR vehicles updated with Ride Command Software. After shifting out of reverse, the rearview camera image may freeze and display a blank screen if shifted into reverse again. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Potential Risk:
The loss of the rearview camera image while in reverse can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will update the Ride Command software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28, 2023. Owners may contact Polaris' customer service at 1-855-863-2284. Polaris' number for this recall is T-23-03.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Defect Description:

SEAT BELTS

Potential Consequences:

We were driving in the Slingshot when it started raining. The vehicle hit some water and started to hydroplane. It started to spin, which I was able to end up controlling but we were shot into a ditch where we hit the embankment. My wife was ejected from the car. She swears that she had her seatbelt on and I have video that seems to confirm this. After the wreck, I went to the hauler and looked at the seatbelt. It was out enough that she had to have had it on as it would not go out any further and would not retract. The vehicle is still at the wrecker so this has not been confirmed. The police report says that the seatbelt was not on, but I'm sure that he did not actually test this aspect. There were no warning lamps or anything else indicating that the seatbelt was not on prior to the crash.
