SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:PADS

the brakes on my 2007 nissan xterra would not fully activate and almost caused me to have an accident. i was entering i-95 southbound and traffic was stopped on the ramp from lem turner road. i was traveling at approximately 25 mph when the vehicle would not stop. there was a light rain and i had recently driven through standing water which was approximately one inch deep. the vehicle traveled approximately eight car lengths, during which time i had the brake pedal fully depressed, before coming to a stop within a few feet of a stopped car. i did not depress the brake pedal fully until i found that the brakes were not working in a normal manner. i exited the interstate, and attempted to duplicate the symptoms in a vacant parking lot at roosevelt mall, but was unable. after continuing home, the same thing happened again as i attempted to stop to enter ramp onto 20th st expressway from main street. this vehicle only has 5800 miles on it. i have a clean motor vehicle record and am considered a safe driver by the state of florida. this very well could have ended much differently had i not been driving defensively. i am going to contact the dealership in the morning, saturday, october 06, 2007 in order to have this problem addressed. *jb

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

i have purchased a new 2007 nissan xterra s 4x4 suv so that i can go off-roading for sports activities such as skiing (snow), hunting (mountains, dirt roads). however, i have went to test the 4 wheel drive system of my vehicle several times to ohv parks, and the last time i visited a park, i was driving through plain mud on a plain dirt ground and without any impact nor any bad driving the curtain airbags from both sides have deployed giving me a trauma for airbags. i have taken the car for repair to cerritos nissan dealer, but they told me that it will not be covered under warranty because the car had a rock dent from previous off-roading which had nothing to do with the day of the airbag deployment. as for evidence, i have uploaded on youtube the video of my airbags deploying so that people can see that it deployed for no reason. it is brand new vehicle, with less than 7500 miles on it, the dealer will not respond, and so i had to talk with nissan america corporate office in which they will make another analysis of this vehicle in which i do believe that it is a defect. for this repair, they will have to replace the entire roof ceiling in which i do not believe that it will be the same as before, and so i have requested them to get me a new vehicle because i lost confidence of my defective one. from now on, i will have the trauma of airbags deploying at any time, and i am doing this complaint because i do think that it is dangerous to let them have such system because i can imagine that because of these airbags, i could have gotten into a big accident, and wish that it is fixed for everyone for the safety of human kind!!! i have researched online, and i am not the only person with this same experience... there are few more out there with the same problem. for those who are interested in reviewing the video the link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw6huoq2gvi.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

there is significant variance in when the passenger side airbag disengagement light will come on when my wife is in the car. my wife is approximately 115 pounds and there is not any consistency as to when the airbag becomes turned off. for example i will be cruising at 60 miles per hour with her sitting perfectly centered on her seat. with these conditions constant the light will go on for a variable amount of time and then turn back off. the same results can be observed regardless of what speed we are going. for example, the same situation can be observed cruising at 30 mph. the dealership, service center and regional customer service center will not acknowledge that there is a problem. there reasoning is that this is the way safety feature is designed and the vehicle passes their diagnostic test. when i ask for the design parameters that cause the light to go on and off they do not give me a specific enough reason or parameters as to why the light goes on and off. this is an obvious design failure or safety defect, but no one at nissan is is willing to take responsibility to help us. we are basically stuck with a very unsafe vehicle for anybody with a passenger between 100 to 130 pounds. this is a weight range where children and young adults are specifically at risk to this safety defect. i can understand how the airbags can be optimized to turn on and off based on various factors. but there is no consistency on what those thresholds are. we appreciate any help someone can provide in helping to get a recall for this very dangerous vehicle.

bought a brand new 2007 nissan xterra offroad and the rear suspension bottoms out when traveling on any road with as little as 50 lbs. in the back. vehicle is rated to tow but with a trailer attached it is very dangerous to control when traveling on roads with any type of bump or uneven road surface. trying an emergency avoidance maneuver would cause a crash or injury due to a poor rear suspension. this issue is a continual problem.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

1) fuel gauge stopped functioning, and service engine indicator lighted. the fuel gauge behaves erratically, generally showing tank is empty, even when full. 2) problem occurs constantly, requiring careful tracking of mileage to determine when to re-fuel. 3) checked on-line forums for nissan xterras, and this is a common problem caused by corrosion to the fuel sender unit. most replacements cost between $450 and $650 for parts and labor.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

i had a 1/4 tank of gas in my 2007 nissan xterra so i filled it up with gas. when i turned the engine back on the fuel gauge read 1/4 tank still. as i proceeded to drive the ses light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

i have a 2007 nissan xterra with 14k miles. fuel gauge does not register when tank is filled up. occasionally as driving, my tank will be completely full, but the gauge will shoot down to empty and cause low fuel light to come on. this will also trigger the check engine to come on. the engine, at times, as also acted as if it is about to stall due to being out of gas...which it is not. my mechanic, whom i have used for many years, has informed me that this is a fuel line sensor in the gas tank after running the codes during trying to get my vehicle inspected, which failed due to check engine light being on. this seems to be a problem for a number of people with this vehicle.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

i drive a 2007 nissan xterra...which i bought new from the dealer. i stopped to get gas a few months ago and noticed that, after putting gas in my tank, my light still said i was on empty. after a few hours it jumped back up to full, and now, as soon as my gas is at 3/4 of a tank, it automatically jumps to e and my check engine light remains on. i am constantly stopping for gas because i cannot tell how much gas i have. further, after doing research, i have discovered this is an apparent huge problem with other nissan xterras, pathfinders and frontiers from the 2005 to 2007 years. i have also discovered that any auto place wants to charge me up to $600 to fix this part..which is an apparent defect from the manufacturer. i should not have to pay any money out of my pocket to fix this!

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

at 40k miles, fuel gauge started intermittent failure, along with "check engine" light...internet boards for xterra owners indicated widespread similar problems. i contacted nearest nissan dealer in parkersburg, wv, was told would cost me $330 for parts & labor to replace the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. first, i don't feel obligated to pay out of pocket for this repair, for a vehicle that isn't even 3 years old with 40k miles. secondly, most certainly don't want to replace it with same type of sensor that hasn't been updated & will likely malfunction as well, as has been reported by many other xterra owners. i have been estimating fuel level in tank by using trip odometer, and vehicle now shows 42k miles...gauge continues to malfunction intermittently. i would like it repaired under "good faith" by a dealer, with no out-of-pocket cost, when i take it for the recall notice about replacing the front impact airbag sensor...haven't scheduled that repair yet, but would like to have it all done at that time. thank you!

upon filling my 2007 nissan x-terra (with 42000 miles) i noticed that my fuel gauge was not reading full. soon after my service engine soon light came on. i called the dealer and was told that this sometimes happens and my needle would work itself back up and after a few trips my ses light would go off. i have since done a little research and come to find out that this is a widespread problem not only with x-terra but with other models as well. there is are multiple sites such as nissan help.com ,x-terra world.com where people all over are have this same issue and asking for help. there is also a service bulletin reference number for this problem (ref #ntb07-069) so obviously someone has acknowledge its existence. i also have picture proof that nissan has since fixed the problem in the modification of the replacement part changing the original part because the fuel gauge is not working properly my concern is that should i run out of gas in the middle of traffic or at a traffic stop not only could there be an accident but possible if not probable loss of life. also, in california we are required to smog are vehicles every 2 years and with my ses light on this will be impossible without extremely expensive repairs and as a single parent would leave me financially bound.my warranty of course has just expired at 36,000 miles however the problem still exists and existed before the expiration of the warranty. i am also in the midst of writing the national board of consumer affairs as well as nissan customer affairs and my congressman ken calvert.

purchased a brand new 2007 xterra in november 2006. in the summer of 2009 at about 33,000 miles i ran out of gas in the gas station parking lot when the gas gauge read that i still had a couple of miles to empty. service engine light came on and i could not get rid of it. a friend and local mechanic said that the fuel sensor was broken. the vehicle had exceeded the warranty mileage and the dealer would not fix it for free. this weekend on christmas eve i ran out of gas on the highway after writing down how many miles i had left until empty. according to the mileage i had written when i filled up, i still had about 70 miles to empty but with the cold weather, etc. the car must have used up more gas than usual. luckily, no one was hurt but this posed an extreme danger to us given that the car stopped in the middle of a busy highway. according to several other xterra owners, this is a common problem with xterras but nissan has issued no recall.

i discovered i have a faulty gas gauge on my 2007 nissan xterra two to three months ago. the gauge does not correctly show the remaining amount of fuel. every time i fill up the gauge either "sticks" where it was at when i filled up, or it will bottom out and the fuel light will come on. i find it necessary to keep track of mileage using my odometer rather than risk trusting a faulty gauge. nissan has recently issued a recall for this issue but has only recalled six months worth of xterra vehicles, even though there is proof that this is a widely occurring problem as witnessed by the number of complaints online from consumers. the production date on my xterra was nov. 2006, right in between the two three-month recalls issued by nissan. i am writing to bring this "bookend"-type recall philosophy to your attention. solving a problem goes beyond issuing recalls. companies such as nissan are too focused on limiting the numbers of vehicles recalled rather than keeping customers safe by including all impacted vehicles. i believe such companies should be held accountable for such widespread safety issues.

the 2007 nissan xterra that was purchased for my sons has had a gas gauge that never recorded properly. this has been an ongoing problem that my sons have noticed from the beginning. first they wondered about it...and then said something to us. we notified the dealership, notified them again, and again, and again (i think you get the story) and finally after a couple of years, one sales serviceman said "yes others have the same problem". the replaced the gauge and then requested that i come back when the fuel tank was really empty to replace something in the tank. i did both these things. we haven't noticed a problem since but all boys are in college without the car. our car also isn't one of the cars being recalled for anything...it's the same year but it is when the car was manufactured. i called nissan many, many times. unresponsive reps and had a few senior people call me after my numerous attempts, said they mailed me something about one item that was recalled. i said that i never received anything and they wouldn't resend it. i will never buy another nissan vehicle again. our other vehicles are a 2008 suburban and a 2008 300 mercedes. less problems with both. nissan people if you are reading this...your customer service stinks. btw the original dealership by my house went under and closed...family nissan..bought car at el monte because it had the car i wanted and at a better price.

my 2007 nissan xterra has a fuel gauge that does not go to full after the tank is filled. the gauge drops to empty and the fuel indicator light goes on indicating low fuel. in addition, the service engine soon message indicator light goes on. this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of crash. there currently is a recall on the 2006 and 2008 models (nhtsa #10v075000) related to a faulty fuel sender float arm causing the instrument panel to mislead. this is very common as there are many complaints of the same issue.

i have a 2007 nissan xterra. my fuel sending unit has failed resulting in failure of my fuel gauge. at times the gauge will show no gas at all, and at other times it will stick at partially full. the gauge is never accurate. this presents an enormous safety problem as the chance of running out of gas on a highway or interstate is greatly increased. this exact same issue was deemed a safety hazard that resulted in recall on xterra models before and after 2007, as well as other nissan models made in 2007. if it is a safety hazard for those vehicles, it is a safety hazard for a 2007 xterra!

my check engine light came on back in january 2010. i had the code run at a local auto parts store. code is p0463, definition: fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause. 1. open or short circuit condition 2. poor electrical connection 3. faulty fuel level sensor since the light has come on, i'm getting a faulty reading from my fuel gauge. it gives inaccurate readings and i'm now forced to use my odometer to prevent running out of fuel. i read online about a potential recall so i waited to have the repair done. i contacted my dealership and they said to expect a letter in the april and may timeframe. nissan issued a recall for 2006 and 2008 nissan xterra's. i have a 2007 and i have the same problem as the other years included in the recall. i would like the 2007 to be included in the recall since it has the same issues.

went to the gas station to fill up my 2007 nissan xterra. afterward, the fuel gauge read 3/4 full instead of 100% full, then a few minutes later dropped below "e" and the "service engine soon" light came on. a simple internet search informed me that this is a very common problem with not only 2007 nissan xterras, but other years as well, due to a faulty part used by nissan in the fuel sending unit. i had the error code pulled (p0463) and it came back to the fuel sending unit. nissan has a technical service bulletin for this code, so they are fully aware of the problem, what the cause of the problem is, and what is necessary to fix it. my car stalled on the freeway the other day in the number two lane, thanks to the fuel sending unit not working properly. i had four children in my car at the time. luckily, there was quite a bit of traffic so the danger level was low considering we were on the freeway, however if we were not in traffic, things would have been much more serious. nissan claims that this is not a safety issue and will therefore not issue a recall, however i strongly disagree and feel that my recent experience proves that a faulty fuel sending unit is a safety issue. i was told by a service rep at my dealership that all 2007s were initially a part of the most recent recall for replacing fuel sending units, however nissan changed the recall to only include certain 2007 xterra vin #s, yet 2006 and 2008 models are a part of the recall. since the recall began, i've been receiving letters every month from my dealership offering to buy the car back from me. this does not sit well with me.

(ie. the potential for vehicles stalling out on the freeway due to the uninformed owners lack of awareness that they are running on an empty gas tank!) my attempt to address the problem: i discussed the problem with nissan consumer affairs north america, and nissan canada. i discovered that the company has issued a recall of specific vehicle #'s in the 2006 and 2008 product line. my internet research into consumer complaints about the problem indicates that this specific complaint is much more widespread than nissan is willing to admit. i inquired with nissan canada (wednesday, july 14) to see if there was another avenue through which i could refer this safety problem to nissan, but the receptionist assured me that i had no further recourse.

i have a 2007 nissan xterra brought used @ carmax of white marsh md. i have had the car for 3yrs now and have had its regular check and routine oil change. in november the car started with this strange and load noise. i had new tierd replaced and took it back to the place to see if that was the problem, after persistence and taking the car back because it would skip and pull. the autoshop did a diagnostic testing. it was discovered that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission causing the car to loose some power along with the header not working either. i called nissan and told them the problem. well they sent me a letter telling me about an internal memo they had regarding this same issue. i was advised to take it to a nissan dealer to see if in fact that was the case. i did and it was i spoke to someone in their consumer affairs department who explained that because my car was over the extended warranty amount that hey had increased it to i would have to pay a deductible out of pocket.... here is my major problem the warranty was extended to 80,000 miles my car has 93,000 mile. they will replace the radiator if i pay a deductible od $1000.00.. why should i pay for a manufacture error.? please someone help me i can not afford to drive this car or pay such high deductible. nissan needs to pay for the entire repair.... i have not gotten it fixed because they want me to pay $1000.00. which i do not have.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

my nissan 2007 xterra has been experiencing problems with the fuel gauge. i first noticed in late august of 2010 my service e gine soon light (ses) come on and it was not until a few weeks later i took in my car and was told my fuel gauge was not working properly. i have been now doing research and have just learned that many others are experiencing the same problem as i am. my gauge will mark empty after i have filled up my tank and show a full tank at about 50 miles after i have filled up the tank. my gauge will also go on e when it is at 1/4 of a tank and even at a half tank never knowing exactly how much gas is in the tank. i also read online that the 2007 xterras have a recall on the fuel system and i believe they should be replaced to anyone who is experiencing this problem free of charge. this is a serious matter and could end in accidents and possible deaths. lets see if this happens and we all get it replaced as i also found this information online from a website. dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before march 22, 2010.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

my 2007 nissan xterra has an intermittent problem with the fuel sending unit not registering the correct fuel levels as well as the empty light staying on after a fill up of the tank. after filling up the tank the gas gauge sticks on empty and then after an undetermined amount of time it starts to fluctuate to different points in the full range of the gauge. this has happened several times in the last two years. the consequences could have included running out of gas due to incorrect fuel level reporting by the fuel gauge and stalling in traffic. there is a safety recall for the same model vehicle in prior and later years for the same issue, but nissan refuses to address and correct the entire safety issue. at this point in time the vehicle in question has not been repaired to correct the problem.

i have a 2007 nissan xterra that i just bought in sept. '10. it now has about 39,000 miles on it. i was a little under 1/4 a tank of gas the other day so i went and filled it up. when i restarted my vehicle, the gas gauge went right back to the position it was in before i filled up. i turned the vehicle off and then back on and it still read the same. thinking my float was stuck or something, i just went on driving. after awhile, the gauge went to empty and the warning light came on. i went to put more gas in but it would only take about 2 gallons. then the 'service engine soon light' came on and now it won't go off. the gas gauge will sometimes go up to full (even if i've drove 100 miles on that tank) and sometimes it will go all the way to empty. it fluxuates up and down with no rhyme or reason and it will do it in a matter of seconds. i have put sea breeze fuel cleaner stuff in the tank but so far it has not helped.

i have a nissan xterra 2007. i decided to stop at a gas station to fill it up on a 1/2 tank of gas. spent $40-$45 to fill it up. drove about a 1/2 mile down the road and noticed that the fuel gage didn't change in position. so i pull the vehicle over and shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes before i decided to start it back up. when i did, there was no change in the needle's position and the ses light popped up. whenever i fill the tank up or put any gas in the vehicle the needle goes from not moving, to empty, to where it should be after driving for a few miles and the ses light remains to be on. i went to a local garage and got read by a scan gauge and it gave me p0463 code which meant there is a fuel level malfunction. i called up a few garages including the dealer and they told me that the repair cost with parts and labor would be $500-$600. i did some researching if there has been any recalls and discovered that this has been a problem with older xterra models that continues to be a problem with the newer ones. this should not be happening with vehicle that i have had for about 4 years with only 40k+ miles on it. *tt

i purchased a 2007 xterra at the beginning of the year with just over 80,000. i have the problem where the radiator and transmission failed simultaneously. i am currently paying a $292.00 note on a car that will not move. i felt comforted in the fact that i purchased the extended warranty with coverage for 100,000 miles or 6 years after the purchase. the factory warranty will not cover the cost to repair the radiator. even though i have warranty coverage for transmission, the same dealership that sold me the expensive extended warranty and overcharged for the car is trying to charge $7700 for the job with new parts or $5500 to do the job with used parts. i know now that the job would have to utilize a new radiator because the original radiators are causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix. i see reports that nissan is starting to recognize the fact that they have faulty radiators but is not holding themselves liable for any of the damages to any of the parts of the car even though most it is under warranty (even though everyone's radiator should have a factory recall by now). there is even a new york times article about the radiator/transmission problem with multiple nissan models. it is written in the contract that if the radiator causes the problem, then the transmission damages will not be covered. also the radiator, which seems to be the part causing all of the problems, is not even covered at all in the warranty nor is it under a factory recall. i purchased a certified pre-owned car with a warranty because i did not want to have a car that would give me further financial troubles in costly repairs. nissan is aware of this problem, but does not take any responsibility because of how much it would cost to repair radiators and/or transmissions for everyone that owns an xterra, frontier or pathfinder.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

my car 2007 nissan xterra started to make a revving noise under the hood on sunday 10/2/2011. the next day i was on the highway on my way home from work when the check engine light came on. i cautiously drove the min speed limit to the mid-city nissan dealership which was less than 2 miles away at this point. the next day, mid-city nissan informed me that i needed the timing chain repaired asap. this sight isn't the better business bureau so i'll save you the extraneous lies nissan tried to sell me so they didn't have to fix my car which was under 46000 miles and still under extended nissan factory warranty. not wanting to spend $2000 on a car that i am still paying for and is still considerably new at 46000 miles. so i called my trusted neighborhood mechanic to look at it. he concluded that the guards on the secondary belt are worn away and it need to be replaced. looking into "timing chains on nissan trucks" becomes quite a fruitful search when browsing the internet. right now there is a service bulletin for defective engines in trucks like mine. this is the first truck i've owned and i believed that the high pitched whining sound coming out of the engine was normal for such a big, powerful car. i'm afraid that the engine has sounded like this for the last few thousand miles. i feel if it's such a widespread problem among nissan truck owners, it could one day result in someones engine stalling on the highway. thank goodness it wasn't me. nissan needs to address this problem and there should be a recall on these engine parts.

last month the car seemed to start slipping gears when i got up to around 40 miles per hour. it was sporadic and once i let me foot off the gas for a second it seemed to clear and be ok. i started to see a slow leak of what i thought was oil in the garage where i parked the yesterday. when i mentioned the leak to a buddy and also told him that my heater was not working, he said we should check the coolant in the radiator. when we opened the radiator cap, there was a slimy brownish sludge all over the bottom of the cap. that afternoon, i brought the car to the mechanic across the street and he said that i had a radiator failure of some that has caused radiator fluid to get into the transmission. this is where the brown sludge has come from. he said the car needed a new radiator and the transmission had to be flushed, dropped, and serviced and it would not guarantee that the transmission needed to be replaced sometime soon after. the entire thing he quoted me as costing $3k. i called my nissan dealer where i had purchased the car from new in april 2007 and the gentleman in the service department seemed quite aware of the issue and informed me that the radiator replacement is under and extended warranty from nissan, but i would still be out of pocket for at least a $2500 co-pay for the replacement of the transmission.

about two weeks ago my car would not reverse and went into neutral when i was trying to back out of a parking spot. i took my car to a nissan dealership/service center and the person knew exactly what was wrong with my car. apparently it is very common for 2005-2010 nissan vehicles to have a "faulty engine design" the service man said. the problem as it was explained to me is that the radiator fluid starts to leak into the transmission and ruins both parts. my car was bought 2 years ago for $14,000, the cost to replace the radiator and transmission is $8,000. for myself and i am sure for many, this is not an affordable amount. after researching online and reading the numerous complaints, i am surprised that no one has held nissan accountable and that no recall has been issued. i am not sure how many complaint are necessary for this to move forward. unfortunately i have a feeling that people need to die before something is done. i hope this is not the case and feel like nissan is selling lemons to their unsuspecting consumers.

i filled up my gas tank and when i left, i noticed the "service engine soon" light and that my gas gage was in empty right after filling up. after a little while the service light would go off and the gas gage seemed to be working again. i did a little web research and found many other owners are seeing the same issue. i¿¿m willing to live with using my trip gage because the cost to fix is too much for a known issue. love my xterra just hate this issue. what i have found is that the federal mandate on ethanol mixed gas corrodes the censure is from one person thoughts. also found that if you take it in, the code will say, p0463 which means you fuel sender unit sensor is out.

vehicle maintained meticulously. fluids changed regularly. drove mainly highway miles in the winter. at first it began having trouble starting. then wouldn't start at all. not a click, not a crank. then took it to local shop with good reputation. had it for 7.5 weeks before it was 'fixed.' drove it for the first time in 8 weeks & transmission was thumping hard as it up-shifted & seemed not to keep up on down shift. upon initial light acceleration tranny/gears began to slip making a loud/harsh vibrating/shuttering sound & feel. took it home immediately. when i checked radiator the dreaded grey sludge poured out. nissan has horrendous customer service. i'm told i need a radiator & a new transmission. totaling over $6100! nissan needs to for once do the right thing & do a full recall. this is my second xterra. i had a 2005 as well. i also owned a 2005 maxima. that's brand loyalty but i also used to make $200,000/yr, live in my dream home, etc...thru divorce & illness i'm homeless just trying to survive. i had planned to sell the xterra & buy an inexpensive fuel efficient car so i could bank the balance & begin trying to save again. i have no vehicle now or $6100 for repairs that r obviously due to a design flaw or flaws.

on friday, august 2, 2013, approximately 5:40pm, the car started to have difficulty shifting (automatic), speed became erratic, slowed rapidly. i was on a service road next to a freeway during rush hour traffic in a busy area of scottsdale. i was near pinnacle nissan and decided to drive there. i had a couple very busy intersections to go through to drive the 1 mi to pinnacle. the car would not accelerate more than 10 miles an hour and was not shifting out of low gear. i was very concerned i would stall or the car would cease driving in these intersections. pinnacle nissan service diagnosed the issue (8/3/13) as a cracked radiator cooling tube that caused coolant to mix with transmission fluid ruining components in the transmission. a complete new transmission and radiator is required to fix this now. this issue is not related to abusive driving, i do very little off road and no towing, and is not a lack of or improper maintenance. this is a know design flaw by nissan. it appears there is a high number of nissan problem suv's, 2005 to 2010, that experience this same problem after roughly 80,000 miles. based on my experience, this is a potentially dangerous safety issue especially if someone would be driving at higher speeds on a busy freeway.

my car was jarring and making a rumbling noise so i took it in to get fixed. there was water detected in my transmission so i had it flushed twice. the rumbling continued so they replaced the radiator. that cost a total of about $1,000. a few weeks later it got worse and they told me i needed a new transmission. that will be between $4500-$5000. nissan has been under investigation regarding coolant mixing in the transmission fluid and have not done anything to fix the problem. there to be a recall!

i am very disappointed and disgusted with the way nissan has handled this problem. my xterra 2007's transmission did not go bad until it reached over 120k miles. my wife was driving cross country with my children and all of the sudden she felt the gears slipping while driving in a major interstate. luckily she was able to drive home safe. i found out shortly after this almost catastrophic experience that there were many complaints regarding nissans transmission problems. i guess there was a class action lawsuit that only covered vehicles under 100k miles. why is nissan only providing assistance to vehicles under 100k miles if there is a there is a defect in the transmission coolant. they should cover any transmission problems regardless of what the mileage is. i took my xterra to aamco because they charge be thousands of dollars less of what a nissan dealership would have charged me. i have been a loyal nissan owner since 2003 and will never buy a vehicle from them again. in fact, i have convinced friends and families not to buy nissan vehicles because of the poor service that they have provided.

at 60mph and also 40mph the vehicle vibrates heavily and is slow to react to power inputs with no warning signs prior. this was determined to be caused by the known defect related to the radiator / heat exchanger, where the engine coolant mixes with the transmission fluid and gets into the transmission. this then turns into a "pink milkshake" consistency fluid and completely ruins the entire transmission and valve assembly. this requires a complete rebuild or replacement of the transmission and radiator to correct the issue. there is no warning sign and this affects these vehicles at different rates. this can cause cars to seize up unexpectedly in the middle of driving creating a dangerous situation. since this is a known issue for nissan trucks model year 2005 - 2010 this should be a safety recall. it is not a matter of if this will happen, it is a matter of when. in my personal situation i had no injury or immediate car shutdown, however i would have no warning if that did occur and has the potential to be dangerous, especially at highway speeds. this has to be investigated and is uncalled for to have a known defect and not disclose this to owners of these vehicles. additionally, there is a perfectly good way to mitigate this issue by adding a dedicated cooler for the transmission and bypass the radiator, which is a cheap and easy fix to never have this issue.

this week my sons 2007 nissan xterra would not start and we had it towed to a nissan dealership near his college in scranton pa. yesterday we were informed that the transmission and radiator need to be replaced, at a cost of around $5000! this is shocking because my son insists that he noticed nothing amiss with the operation of his truck until it he was unable to start it. after spending 10 minutes on the internet, i learned about the nissan transmission class action lawsuit. we have been religious in terms of scheduled maintenance, and overall care of the vehicle. we were not aware of the cooling/transmissions problems plaguing nissan trucks. in addition, i have had the vehicle serviced at two separate nissan dealerships, one in new york and another now in pa. it is disgraceful that neither nissan dealership mentioned anything! this morning i contacted nissan corporate and was told that since the vehicle is over 100,000, there is nothing they can do for us. i do not have $5000 and do not know what to do with my sons nissan. as others have mentioned in postings, there likely many others with vehicles over the 100,000 marker, now just experiencing the negative effects of the defective manufacturing by nissan. there should be a second class action suit filed against nissan!!!

i have researched and found many other have had the same issue with the fuel sensor on 2007 xterra.last gen was recalled and they need to recall this year.i have ran out of gas twice already while driving down the highway.i am also having a loud wining noise coming from the engine due to a failed timing chain tensioner.both these items need to be recalled before somebody gets killed.

my fuel gauge registered only 1/2 of the last quarter so i completely filled up. when i started the car up the fuel gauge now read totally empty, with the yellow empty light on. i knew it was full so i reset the odometer to track mileage to estimate fuel content. after about two driving cycles the gauge eventually made it to the full mark and seemed to come down normally. this has happened now three more times. i understand there has been a recall, but my vehicle is outside the time (sept 2013) and distance (72000) miles allowed for the recall. it's now may 2014, with 76000 miles. the dealer, and the nissan 800 number just blew me off as being outside the recall warranty limits. one of the times the gauge hung up at the last quarter tank, you could run out of fuel in traffic or an intersection. i feel it's serious enough to rate as a safety issue.

i purchased a 2007 nissan xterra 200 miles away from my home and while driving it home the vehicle transmission stopped working properly. the vehicle drove ok at highway speeds but once i slowed, to in town speeds, the vehicle lost the gears ability to drive the vehicle. if this occurred to me while on the highway i could have been in a much greater danger. this more than likely has occurred to others that own these types of vehicles, putting them in a very unsafe environment. if there was fluid loss or overheating it could lead to a vehicle fire as well. i would like a recall to occur for the transmission/radiator crossover to the 2005-2010 nissans - xterra, pathfinder, and frontier.

i pulled on to the interstate on which the speed limit was 65 mph, and my xterra would not shift past second gear or go above 35 mph. cars were flying by me and those entering interstate behind me were unable to get around me due to the high volume of vehicles on the interstate passing us. i turned on my flashers and limped it to the next exit to get off the interstate. the transmission failed due to coolant being leaked into it. this issue has been investigated and a class action lawsuit settled. however, it was only up to $100,000 miles and i can no longer be part of that lawsuit. i never received notification of an issue with my make and model vehicle. this issue is continuing to happen to other xterra owners and putting others at risk. nissan knows about the problem but refuses to take any action to correct it. in fact, according to my mechanic, the valve needed to correct the problem is on back order with nissan due to the high volume needed for repairs. apparently, they cannot keep up with production of them.

nissan sent a warranty notification letter that the radiator could crack and leak into the transmission. the letter stated the warranty ran out at 80k miles. they would not replace the radiator and transmission until there was an actual problem. i didn't start having problems until about 96k miles. when i brought it in to the dealer, i was told it would cost me $3000 my part to fix it and they would cover the rest. i have not been able to afford to make the repair at this time. nissan knew the part was bad and still did nothing to correct the problem.

the first time i noticed something wrong with the transmission, the vehicle would make a large vibrating sound at random times. this would keep getting worse until i had to bring it to a shop, overall just about a week. i was told the transmission and radiator fluids were mixing and that i needed a fluid flush a long with a new radiator. about 6 months later, my car just wouldn't start one morning. i take it to the shop again, hoping it is just a minor fix this time. this time there is something wrong with the transmission and computer system. luckily i wasn't driving when this happened, otherwise who knows what damage it would have caused to the car or to me.

my 2007 nissan xterra came on with a check engine light and over drive indicator light stayed on. obdii code for check engine light was p0700 transmission control system tcs malfunction. the transmission would no longer use 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. reverse, neutral, and drive could still be selected but when in drive it was in 4th gear only. took it to the nissan dealership and they told me that coolant from the radiator was leaking into the transmission and this was a common issue that the service department had seen before many times now. they informed me that i was 1500 miles over warranty and that i would have to contact nissan customer care. that is when i discovered that there was a class action lawsuit for this problem against nissan because this was a known defect for 2005-2010 xterras and they wouldn't do a recall. now nissan is telling me there is nothing they can do for me and they will charge me $7500 for parts and labor to replace the transmission, radiator, lines and fluid. that is outrageous as my 2007 xterra only values at $8000. i was never notified when i bought this suv in august of 2012 that it was part of a class action lawsuit and in the 2 years i have owned i have never been notified by nissan of a settlement that could have alerted me to have this checked sooner before transmission failure happened. i also wouldn't have bought the car if i had known there was a known issue with the radiator leaking into the transmission that nissan is not willing to recall for. now i am trapped with a loan on a lemon i cant drive and cant afford to fix.

apparently, this is happening to large number of nissan vehicles. it started with my gas meter getting stuck on a quarter of tank. and twice i ran out of gas, thinking i still had some gas left in tank. now my empty tank light cuts on usually after i get around a half of tank. when i fill up it may take 2 or 3 trips before the sensor gets off of reading no gas. my check engine light is on as well. very frustrating not knowing how much is in tank, especially on long trips. frustrating as well, having to put gas in xterra every 2-3 days not knowing how much is actually in tank.
