while attempting to make a turn at a stop light, vehicle began to shake and slow down. it felt as if it was going to lose power. i had to push the accelerator harder than expected as there was another vehicle bearing down on me in oncoming traffic. this is a new vehicle. i brought it to the dealer and it appears to be a torque converter issue. the shaking is not an issue in itself, however it could lead to accidents if someone is making a turn and needs to get out of oncoming traffic as the transmission does not seem to respond as expected. *js

the steering wheel starts to shake and i feel my gas pedal vibrate when driving approx. 30-40 mph and up. nissan technical services mechanic said that is normal for nissan altima 2013/2014.

tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, another vehicle crash into the driver�s side of the vehicle. none of the air bags deployed. the driver sustained a separated hip. the two rear passenger sustained injuries to the back, spine and whiplash injuries. a police report was filed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent an engineer to further investigate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 400.

VISIBILITY

the sunlight reflects off of the beige and glossy black interior finishes and causes a mirror image of the interior surfaces/glare onto the front and rear windshields. the glare on the glass is very bright and makes it difficult to see traffic lights and traffic signs as well as any other object in the glare zone. the glare zone ranges between 20 to 50% of the windshield area. this design fault was corrected in other nissan cars but not in the altima. i contacted nissan and was advised "no correction can be made at this time".

no unusual sounds or check engine noticed with the following: 1) while sitting in cramped traffic, i let off the brake pedal to inch forward a few feet while riding the brake. rms dropped to 500 for every instance and car began to shutter. 2) coming to stop lights/signs. after traveling a distance of about 1/8-1/4 mile @30-40 mph, the deceleration caused the rpm to drop to 500 and the vehicle began to shutter as i reached the stopping point. i noticed this every now and then. i cannot replicate, however i was able to record the rpm drop on two occasions within 5 min of each other. 3) shuttering that occurs at low speeds is felt at higher speeds (50+).feel the shuttering as if transmission was trying to get to next gear, but it holds steady and vibrates. not able to replicate. very uncomfortable ride. 4) at random periods of just waiting in the car with it running, will feel surge as rpms drop for an instance. took vehicle in based on complaints. service center initiated the car to "re-learn" idle. issue 1, no longer a problem thus far. issue 2, still an issue. issue 3 still an issue. issue 4, still an issue. taking it back to same dealer again, and another dealer for a 2nd service team diagnostics.

immediately after starting the car, with a passenger in the front seat, the passenger air bag off light came on. i drove for about 15 minutes and got up to 60mph before it finally shut off. this happened more than once, the above date is the last time it happened though.

problem is, my girlfriend weight 110lb. lot of time when she sits on the passenger side, the airbag indicator tells us the airbag is off. this problems only happened when i picked up my car on the street next to curbs. design of roads is, the center is higher than the sides. because of that, when i park on the right of the streets next to the curbs, the left side of the car is higher than the right side. so when my girlfriend sits on the passenger side, her weight doesnt goes to the center of the seat. but if the car is on surface level such as in a garage, and she get in the car, we have no airbag issue.

power steering pump began making very loud high pitch whining noise after only owning the car for two days. took to dealership and the service manager looked at it and claimed that the power steering pumps are electronic now and they do make a little noise but nothing like the noise my car was making. he contacted nissan the very next morning and had a rep out to look at it. currently my brand new car is sitting at the dealership not drivable because the power steering pump is on back order. apparently nissan has 13 of these pumps on back order so my car is not the only one with this issue. nissan needs to look into a fix and recall these pumps before it does become a safety issue.

new purchased 2014 nissan altima sv 2.5 with cloth interior experiences 'passenger air-bag off' light illuminating with 132 pound 5 foot 7 inch adult female occupant in passenger seat. light displays with occupant sitting in normal straight position with feet square on floor, back centered on backrest, and arms to her sides. problem replicates during successive trips on same and different days. returned vehicle to dealership at approximately 150 miles. dealership performed diagnostics demonstrating no problems detected within fault codes and verified seat installed correctly. case opened with nissan customer service and vehicle returned with 386 miles on odometer for nissan field engineer testing. service documentation from testing states removed seat and checked for ocs c/v and strain sensor lot numbers, harnesses and connectors checked, re-torqued seat frame to floor pan per esm se-31, performed zero point reset, and confirmed ocs switching rates. all information determined proper with no defects found. problem replicated in second 2014 altima sv with same adult female (utilizing dealership provided 2014 altima with same trim levels as loan during engineering test). nissan customer service states problem is closed with no defect found. no further reviews will be conducted. all attempts requesting additional assistance have failed to date.

2014 nissan altima sl 2.5 makes allot of noise and vibration when you accelerate to get up to a highway speed whether it is from the engine or transmission it is very loud inside the car! the steering wheel seems to have a lot of play in it at a dead stop with engine running by turning the wheel right to left! you also hear clunking noises turning it right to left! the fuel in the tank makes loud swishing noises sort as if i have a small ocean in my fuel tank!

i was at an intersection preparing to make a left turn. when there was an opening in oncoming traffic i pushed the gas pedal to proceed forward and as i entered the intersection the vehicle suddenly dropped the rpm's and acted as if in "limp mode". i pressed the accelerator to the floor to try to get out of the intersection but the vehicle did not respond and only "crawled" through the intersection. because i could not get out of the intersection due to this issue oncoming traffic had to slam on brakes and almost hit me. once i exited the intersection i looked for a place to pull over and stopped about a 500 yards from the intersection. i then noticed the vdc light was on. i pressed the vdc button and it lite up another indicator on the dash showing off. i pressed it again and the light went out however the other vdc light on the dash stayed illuminated. i then turned the engine off and waited a couple minutes and when i started the vehicle the other vdc light was off and the vehicle then drove normal. i have since noticed a sound like the transmission spinning wheni press the accelerator. i was scared to drive the vehicle so i went home. i immediately took the vehicle to the nissan dealer and had the service department diagnose the problem but was told there were no "fault codes" and they did not know why my new car when into "limp mode" and the vdc light came on. this car is new and now i am scared to drive it! the service department at the dealership where i purchased the vehicle said if it happens again bring it back. i have found numerous problems on other internet car forums regarding other nissan altima's with this same issue. there is even another one on this site! this is a major safety defect and needs to be corrected asap. i could have been severely injured by oncoming traffic because the vehicle would not respond to the accelerator no matter what i did.

vehicle wanders and does not keep in a straight line. it is not stable . there is lot of wind noise coming inside and there is always a sloshing sound and believe it is the fuel. not safe as the fuel always bangs around the walls.

while driving in new york, i suddenly heard a pop, and realized that the windshield cracked at the bottom of the passenger's side. the crack is about 10 inches long, and starts at the very edge of the windshield, going towards the center of the passenger's side of it. there was no impact, no gravel, no rocks hit the windshield. there are no chips, and no place of impact, the crack appeared out of nowhere. called the dealer, the dealer refused to repair the windshield under warranty, and advised me to call the insurance company.

the driver in front of me suddenly stopped and when i applied hard pressure on the brakes they did not react quickly, causing the car to continue rolling and hit the car in front of me. this is the second time it happened - the first time being in early september. both times the car was either stationary or barely moving and a hard brake didn't respond like it should. this is third nissan i have had (07 sentra, 99 altima), and i have never had this problem and am familiar with the braking system.

example 1. while driving in my town home community and slightly turning right while going up a slightly inclined road the vehicle begins to shake violently and it seems the transmission is locking up. goes away either by removing all pressure on accelerator or if excessive accelerator pressure is applied. the type of accelerator pressure needed to stop the excessive shaking would bring the vehicle to a speed that is unsafe relative to observed speeds limits in community. example 2. these exhibited symptoms have also occurred with an increasing frequency while driving on city roads in light to moderate traffic: when you are coasting up to slower moving traffic in front of you and then need to accelerate as that traffic increases speed, the car will shake violently. this occurs mostly at speeds under 30 -35 mph but has been felt at speeds as high as 55 mph. it feels as though the entire drive train of the vehicle is going to fall out of the car. vehicle currently has 1200 miles on odometer and symptoms have been increasingly noticeable and frequent since 605 miles on odometer. separate issue: navigation / audio system has frozen screen upon start up and becomes un responsive. no ability to change previous volume level of radio which may have been left at high volume level during previous drive. input is not accepted on head unit or steering wheel controls. navigation will not initiate. car must be restarted for system to reboot and this may remedy the problem for one drive cycle or more. has occured 5 or more times in first month of ownership. should a catastrophic failure in the drive train occur, i feel that i am at risk of serious personal injury. additionally i am concerned that resale value of vehicle will be diminished due to damage caused by inherent design flaw in power train and in-car electronics.

i stopped the car and believed i put it in park. i got out of the car--it did not move. i went to the rear passenger door and got my two year old out of her car seat. i placed her beside the car and shut the rear door. i walked around behind the car to the driver's door. i turned the car off like i always do. the car shut off--and suddenly without warning--began rapidly moving down my driveway. my baby was at the rear of the car and she usually follows me. i ran and had to jump in the moving car. the front left driver wheel nearly ran me over. i tried to gain control of this vehicle by desperately tried to stop it. i was rolling the speed of a skateboard released from the top of the driveway. the steering wheel had locked. i had to push hard on the brake. i stopped it and there were skidmarks on the asphalt. i stopped the car before it slammed into my neighbor's car. had i not stopped it and risked personal injury there would have been a crash. i was scared to death to move and look. i thought my baby was dead. i thought the car had crushed her. my neighbor told me my daughter had been missed by inches. when i looked at the gearshift, it was in d. i have no idea how it shut off in drive. it almost killed my daughter, damaged personal property, and i am injured. i called nissan consumer affairs: they stated that this happens "in all automatic cars." which that is false. i called back to tell them i had friends and family with varying 2014 push button cars try and turn their cars off in d. none of them would turn off unless in park. what is someone was driving and accidentally hit the button on the freeway? loss of steering, brakes, control??? this is a fatal engineering problem. i know gm had a huge recall for similar. nissan consumer affairs told me " there would be no recall" and that i should "be more careful."

on the third day of owning this vehicle, i took it on the interstate. this vehicle has the worst handling of any car i have ever driven. it drifts all over the road with little control. if you are in a crosswind or behind a truck, the vehicle drifts horribly too. you must have a good handle on the steering wheel to keep correcting to stay in your lane! this is a very unsafe vehicle. i am very uncomfortable driving this on the interstate. this happens mostly at high speeds unless it is a breezy day, then it happens all the time even at slower speeds. you can be driving straight for a short period of time and then all of a sudden the car drifts hard to one side. you have to correct quickly in order to not go into the next lane. something needs to be done about this. i have had this into my dealership twice and the first time they told me nothing was wrong. i just needed to get used to the way it drives. the second time, they adjusted the rear alignment and changed out tires to michelin tires. this helped a little bit but did not correct the problem. now the rear end vibrates and drifts. i have had this car for 3 months and i cannot believe there has been no recall on this. someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed if something is not corrected. this is a safety issue for sure!

purchased a brand new nissan altima 2014.the second day of ownership, at 8 miles, noticed a clunking/thumping sound as braking to full stop. this radiates underneath the vehicle and occurs a majority of the time when coming to a full stop. also there is a strong gas sloshing sound from driver side rear. this happens when tank is half full to full. returned to dealership the first time the first week of ownership and the department did not admit hearing the sounds until it was test driven with the owner. returned two more times to the dealership with an nissan engineer looking at it after many phone calls to nissan. the sounds were heard by the engineer. engineer stated that he would try to pack around the gas tank to reduce the noise. he did nothing. we also test drove two other 2014 altimas and a 2013 altima and they all had the same noises!the car was ready by noon with nothing corrected. we have grave concerns with the braking system and gas tank. what is the immediate and long term effects of this clunking/thumping sound etc.

vehicle has recurring transmission problems a couple of times per day over the course of 100 mile commute. most often occurring in stop and go traffic 20-35mph speeds under light acceleration. the transmission causes the car to shake violently while under light acceleration. the dealer has been unable to verify or recreate the problem.

bought 2014 nissan altima 2.5 s brand new from dealer, same day noticed ticking/rattling sound when accelerating with slight vibration. take car to dealer to get checked out on 05/24 and again on 05/27. dealer confirmed the noise, service manager tells me noise come from the cvt transmission, but won't do anythng. i believe the cvt transmission is defective and should be replaced. it does not feel safe to drive with a transmission making strange sound. nissan dealer would not do anything and said it's normal.

after driving my new car, i noticed that above 60 mph, even when the steering wheel is held straight ahead, the car will veer either to the left or right without ever moving the wheel - at random, regardless of crown or truck-rutted road. dealer checked the steering, as well as another new altima; both made similar clunking noises left and right when parked and idled by moving the steering wheel a few inches either direction. wind direction from either left or right increases the effect of constantly having to over-correct to compensate for the car not going in the direction of where the wheel is pointed. it is as if, when the car is "on center" it will then drift left or right without affecting the steering wheel. while this occurs, if one were to look away for even one second, either center stripe or side stripe would be crossed. it is a baffling situation. i have never driven a vehicle, old or new, that is connected and then, it's as if the steering is then disconnected from the wheels. i would not want to drive this vehicle on snow or ice. i feel something is wrong with the new steering system on the 2013 and 2014 altimas.

i have noticed that if you apply the emergency brake with cruise control on, it does not cut out the cruise control. i have noticed this on trips up and down i-95 in a car with a hand emergency brake. i have had numerous knee operations and on long trips i tried to just pull the emergency brake on while holding the button in. i did this because of trouble with my knees. i noticed that although the car did slow enough for what i needed the cruise was still on when i took the brake off. i realized that if someone tried this in an emergency situation that the engine would try to accel and all sorts of bad things would happen. i tried this in every make car that my friends and i have. no one cuts out the cruise control under this situation. i know the cars systems know the brake is being applied because the like comes up on the dash. it would be 1 simple program change to include the cut out. i believe this to be an important issue. please take steps to remedy this. i have emailed this to numerous auto makers. thank you, i have a confirmation (odi)#10585659 nhtsa and case# 621958 nhtsa what do i have to do in order to get this looked at? i registered a complaint on 4-1-2014 and sent a letter to them. i haven't heard anything.

shortly after purchasing my 2014 nissan altima my wife had pulled into our driveway and "pushed" the stop engine button while the shift lever was in drive and the engine shut off. the car immediately started to roll backwards out into the street into oncoming traffic. we were lucky it didn't cause a serious accident! this cars gear shift "does not" have to be in park in order to "push" the button that stops the engine it can be in drive and the engine will shut off and the car will start rolling if it is on a hill!. this is very dangerous because with-out the engine running you lose all your power steering and brakes! if this happened on a hill or steep mountain grade the car could roll over a cliff or out into oncoming traffic! i called nissan about this malfunction many times and each time i was told "the car is operating as designed" please have them correct this problem asap before it causes an accident and someone is killed! on the way to get a cup of coffee (less than one mile from my home) a car started coming into my lane. i swerved slightly to avoid a collision and my car went into the ditch and hit a telephone pole. over $22,000 in damage. radiator bent into an "l" shape. side frames and engine went into the firewall, which totaled the car completely. i have spoken with nissan corp. air bag safety engineer, dealership owner, general manager, sales manager and they will not do anything about this $22,000 damage to the front end and none of the airbags deployed. officer said driver airbag and side curtain and in seat airbags should have also deployed. they didn't and i was almost killed. the car was only 2 months old, no modifications, and very low miles. kiro7 tv in seattle even did two stories on the crash and airbags not working and that nissan had only recalled passenger airbags, not driver side airbags. ..updated 07/16/14 *bf

recently after getting the s/w updated for the recall to fix the passenger air bag issue, i started noticing that the air bag indicator for both driver and passenger are red for longer time than other dash lights during the start of the engine. usually, after starting the engine , all the dash light would come and within couple of seconds, lights/indicators in the dash would go from red to off indicating that everything is normal. but off late , i noticed that only the air bag indicator is going off by at least 3+ seconds, which in turn in sync with the passenger air bag. i'm kind of worried that the air bag safety system is not functioning properly. please advise any further action to get proper attention from the dealer. thanks

when i turn the ignition nothing happens. all i hear is a click where the car is trying to ignite. after trying several times it finally cranks up and start. i've had the battery checked and have taken it to nissan for a diagnostic test and both came back negative. not sure what the problem but it is happening more frequent now since the first time it happened in november 2013 and again in april 2014. if the issue isn't showing up after paying $85 for a diagnostic test at nissan, i wonder if others are experiencing this issue.

my son lost control of his vehicle due to a seizure , he hit a on coming 4 wheel drive truck partly head on , then another truck t-bone him in the passenger side. during the wreck none of the airbags deployed are the seat belt restrain him . his head went thru the windshield partly and the back of his neck broke off the head rest. he has no related issues of seizures of any kind in the past, no one ticketed for the accident period. we come find out that nissan manufacture has a recall on this car because of airbags problems. we never received any kind of noticed from the dealer ship are nissan manufactory period. i' very concern about the safety of this vehicle even being on the road period

making a left turn into shopping center and car started jerking , two days later going through a 25mph school zone and car started jerking ,took car into dealer and i was told that they replaced the transmission when i picked car up, on the way home whenever i would slow down to stop the car would make a whining noise and it would come to a hard stop, took car back to dealer and was told that it was normal . it was not dointhat before they changed the transmission nissan consumer affairs sent a specialist out to check the car out he drove the car and he felt the issue , i was told that it was the torque converter locking up and that was normal, took car to another dealer for a second opinion and he drove the car and experience the issue again i was told that it was the torque converter locking up , it makes this jerking at different speed levels and the whining and hard stopping is constant the second dealer told me that i may have a software problem because the computer that they hooked up to the car shows no problems i am still experiencing the problem . something needs to be done to correct this issue .it was not making the whining noise and making the hard stops where it makes the car move.i am still dealing with these issues.

car will shudder at low speeds (15-35 mph) took car in to dealer, they updated the software but, the transmission "failed' the diag test. a new transmission was put in the car. the car still will shutter unexpectedly mostly at low speeds (however a couple of times have be documented by me at hi-way speeds) in general, when the motor rpms are around 1000 rpms and you give it a slight amount of acceleration, it will get in to the torque stall situation. so, coming to stop lights and then needing to go before coming to a complete stop, or turning on subdivision where slow speeds are required or turning into a parking lot or parking space. have documented many many dates where this has happened. it was back to the dealer but, the have not had the issue happen to them. i have not let my teenaged drivers drive the cars as i do not feel it is safe for them to do so. this situation is not safe.

on wednesday, july 15th 2014 i was leaving my community and there was a section on the way where water accumulates after it rains. during my drive out the community i needed to go through the puddle of water to continue my exit. as i passed through the puddle,the water rushed inside the car, on the driver's side under the steering wheel. it appears that the water rushed into the cabin through the steering column.

POWER TRAIN

as the speed reduces below 25 mph, when you leave gas pedal, even on a level road, the engine rpm appears to fall at or below 1000 rpm and then shoots up to 1300 rpm. it then struggles to find the correct gear ratio and fluctuates between 1000-1500 rpm without any intervention. this creates a jerky behavior and acceleration when none intended especially when one intends to slow down the vehicle. there is almost zero engine assist for deceleration. instead of dropping to around 1000 or lower and then staying steady there, it drops and jumps up which creates dangerous driving situation especially in rain and snow. rpm appeared to drop and then shoot to stay above 1000 rpm instead of gradually dropping and staying steady. took to the dealer and he reproduced the issue. however, other altima in inventory showed similar behavior and the vehicle was not repaired. nissan was contacted and was told this is a "feature". this is not right - in fact there have been similar reports as far back as 2007 altimas - and must be corrected. it appears that they fixed an issue with stalling vehicles in 2013 altimas and introduced new problem where you have to hit the brakes many times to achieve stable idle speed of 750 rpm. this is wearing my brakes prematurely and is a hazard in rain and snow when the vehicle accelerates without any intervention when it should really decelerate. i can not overstate the risk when one has to drive 10 mph or 20 mph in snow...

STEERING

the new electro hydraulic steering on 2013+ altimas appears to have a faulty software. it does not appear to be vehicle speed sensitive/proportional at all! this is extremely dangerous and tiresome to deal with. normally, power steering especially the electrically assisted steering will employ speed sensitivity which will make it easier to move the wheel at lower speeds and harder on higher speeds. this is necessary to keep the vehicle steady and corrected instead of wandering and needing to be overcorrected. a correctly functioning electro steering should therefore make the steering tight at high speeds > 60 mph to keep the car centered on the road and give stability to the ride. all altimas in this generation appear to exhibit this issue including this car gurus review - http://www.cargurus.com/cars/2014-nissan-altima-overview-c24167. this is a must recall item.
