on 7-19-11i took possession of a new nissan altima at saratoga nissan, malta, ny. shortly after that date i noticed that the seat selt audible warning device was not working. i took it to the dealer 8-26-11 for repair of that component but was told, in writing, that this vehicle "was not designed with an audible chime". this is not consistent with the owners manual on this vehicle that states that is equipped with an audible seat belt warning "chime". also it appears inconsistent with nhtsa new vehicle standard 571.208, s 7.3. please advise if this vehicle should be equipped with an audible seat belt warning reminder, or if nissan has been granted an exception to this rule. if you leave the key outside the vehicle and it is touching the vehicle the push button ignition will acknowledge the key and start the vehicle. according to the manual the key must be with you (inside) in order for the vehicle to start. there is no warning stating otherwise. this is a personal security and safety issue.

traveling down a four lane road going 55 mph. it was around 10 a.m., sunny and dry. there was no debris on the road. i heard a loud "pop" which came from behind the passenger seat and in front of back tire. we looked for debris on the road, saw none. car was running fine. continued 10 - 15 more miles to home of father-in-law. stepped out of car and smelled strong gas fumes. proceeded around back of car to passenger side. observed a puddle of gasoline in front of rear passenger tire. slow, steady drip was coming from bottom of car above puddle. car was towed to nissan dealer in lexington, ky. they reported the fuel tank was punctured.

i was driving my vehicle and was traveling at speed of the road and i wanted to make a full stop but i hit a car in front of me! i pushed and pushed the brakes and the vehicle never brake!! also my air bags did not deploy!! there is physical and bodily damage to the car in front of me! also my car was damaged! nissan should step up to fix this problem!

2012 nissan altima rental vehicle. consumer states vehicle unexpectedly came to a near complete stop on the left- of- middle lane while driving on the highway *tgw the consumer stated with no warning, the vehicle rapidly slowed down from 60 mph to approximately 5 mph and began to shake and jerk. the consumer stated there was an odor of fumes indicating that something was burning or melting. the temperature gauge was as high as it could go, indication the engine had overheated.

2012 nissan altima would not shut off. ignition switch was unresponsive. the fuel pump fuse had to be removed so the car would shut off. then the negative battery cable was removed to reset. battery cable was reconnected and fuel pump fuse reinstalled. car would now start and shut off normally. this has only happened once but it concerns us because this car is only four months old and has less than 5,000 miles.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

hi, i would like to bring it to your notice that the headlights provided with my nissan altima do not provide adequate lighting on the street. it is particularly very difficult when making turns, and the other side is like a 4 lane road(the divider is visible when it is already too late). it is my personal experience that when you are unfamiliar with the roads in an area, you will end up on the wrong side of the road (the light is not wide enough and not bright enough). i was lucky that the roads were empty. i have noticed that cars from other manufacturers which are older and smaller light up roads better than my new car does(ex: hyundai elantra). sir, i have approached the nissan dealership and ask them to install hid lamps on my car(i would pay for it) and they say nissan would not do it. some times it feels like i have no head lights and as if i am driving with lighting from other cars. please investigate this issue. i would be really happy if they would provide proper headlamps with right amount of lighting and wide enough beam to ensure a safe and non-life threatening driving experience. thanks, a driver who wants to be alive.

the headrest is tilted forward so far that it makes it very uncomfortable to drive. your head is facing the instrument panel almost, instead of facing the road. it makes for a very uncomfortable and painful driving experience. i hope someone can do something about that since the dealer can't. *tt

the driver's seat is crooked - both across the back and across the seat. this means one's shoulders and torso are twisted and facing the center console, not the steering wheel. hips are uneven with the right side significantly lower than the left. this is a very uncomfortable and painful position to be in. i have been informed by the dealership that all 2012 altimas are like this and therefore it is not a warranty item! i have been able to determine the back of the seat is in fact crooked in the more than two dozen examples i have been able to check. however, the seat bottom is not supposed to sag or be uneven on either side. i've contacted nissan north america and have been told the dealership is my only avenue to pursue a remedy. due to the dealership's determination that the seat is supposed to be crooked my choices are pay someone else or try myself to shim the entire seat or try to adjust the mechanism underneath to level the bottom. nothing can be done about the seat back...

the pedals are positioned too close together. my husband complained of this a few weeks ago when he drove my car because his shoe got caught on the brake pedal as he was lifting his foot off the gas pedal. then, yesterday, the same thing happened to me. i nearly drove my car through the front of the daycare where i was dropping off my son. i am now aware of how extra-cautious i have to be when driving my car so this doesn't happen again. this has never happened to me with any other car. i've been driving for 25 years!

maybe a week after purchasing a 2012 nissan altima on july 25, 2012, i heard squeaking sounds when braking. i returned to the dealership and was given a letter from the mechanic stating that it is normal for the brakes to squeak occasionally because the brakes a not made with the same materials used in the past. on oct 29, 2012, i returned to the dealership because the noise increased when stopping and i started to hear scrubbing when stopping. the mechanic checked my car for the 2nd time and only replaced brake padding in the front and shaved one rotor. now on nov.14, 2012, the noise is continuing and the scrubbing sound is still there. i think the manufacturer should pay to replace my brakes and rotors because the was car new when i left the dealership and i should not have this problem. it sounds dangerous and every time i drive my car i am afraid it my not stop when i brake to stop.

purchased my new altima s2.5 convience pkg plus 1st of aug 2012. i bought new car to be safe this was my 3rd altima. mon. dec 31, 2012 @ 11;15 a.m. i made right turn into home driveway. my driveway is steep house sits down was proceeding forward down driveway to enter garage. i had brakes no warnings or indicators anything was wrong. top of drive had brakes on, then let off little to allow car to go forward. as i eased off liitle on brakes down car started to accelerate to fast so tried to apply pressure to brakes and went to floor, started pumping brakes and nothing car would not slow down to avoid going through garage door or side of house veered to right steering was little tight all could think was keep pumping brakes! car went off embankment airborne landed on neighbors driveway empact shook me. car is proceeding through their backyard still pumping brakes no results i see huge tree headed for frantic to stop car next i know i am dased airbag deployed car is on drivers side up aganist tree see smoke coming out front. ema had be pulled out backseat through passenger side. car went off 6' striaght retaining wall tires pulled cinder blocks down kept me from head on tree. my brakes failed person towed my car while incline said had no brakes, but body shop said have brakes they're not going total car or check master cylinder $13,000 damage it can be repaired, but can't drive this car it is not safe for me. my brakes failed. i bought new 2012 altima my 3rd one, car 4 mos. old 4,000 miles this shouldn't happen. learned recall sent out 2012-2013 power steering bolts. i had go by ambulance to er i have been hurt. nissan making me gather info send to investigate if defect. taken so long ins gives rental car 25 days nissan won't provide one until through investigating for defect which hasn't statred. my car is not safe and i have prove to them. your car should not hurt you!

i purchased a 2012 nissan altima. while driving 35-40 mph the car began rattling,noise,bing like and vibration. when i reached the speed of 60mph, it began to shake and jerk. it's really hard to explain what it feels like, but i know it's not normal, i took it to the dealership, they said the front tires need rotated. the tires were rotated and the problem still exist. this car was a certified/used purchase on feb. 5,2013.

the passenger side air bag off warning light intermittently turns on when there is a passenger seated in the passenger seat. this indicates that if there were an accident while this warning light is on; the passenger air bag would not go off; which can result in serious injury. i have brought this vehicle to the dealer three times for this issue and they tell me that there are no "codes" to be read and they are unable to reproduce this. the dealer expressed concern that they would have to replace the entire passenger seat because the occupancy classification sensor can't be individually replaced. apparently this seat is quite expensive; over $2000 and the dealer claims that they can't just replace it without some authorization from nissan. i have even taken a video of my wife in the car seated in the passenger seat and the airbag off warning light is turned on (youtu.be/uwoqjqwraei) and have provided a link to the dealer. i have called nissan consumer affairs hoping they would have my car fixed. they reply they gave was that since the dealer couldn't reproduce it; they can't do anything. my wife is afraid of driving in the car with me for fear that she could be injured. i have even posted this video so my last resort is to report this to nhtsa where i see that someone else has posted a similar incident.

purchased my 2012 nissan altima coupe 8/2/2012. in just over 30 days the paint was coming off the rear bumper on both sides near the rear tire where the bumper meets the body of the car. took the car in to have the bumper repainted. within 60 days the paint was coming off in the same place again. took the car back last month and was repainted with 3 flaws...needless to say it has to go back yet again!! also, within a few days of purchase i noticed that the radio would not pick up local radio stations without a lot of static and interference. only 1 out of 12 presets do i get on a consistent basis and i only drive within a 25-30 mile radius of my home. took to the dealer and they said it was because of the window tint. gave them information from 3m that the tint would not interfere with the radio and then they said they didn't hear it. taken back on several occasions and no resolve. noticed 3/17/2013 that my leather wrapped steering wheel has split in the grain of leather and it is right where my right hand goes to drive. transmission is not consistent...when i let off the gas briefly it is as if someone has hit the brake pedal and the car "draws back"...very annoying!!! i also purchased xzilon paint protection system at the dealers recommendation because the car is black and i live in fl...now 7 months later this protectant has completely ruined the paint on my car and shows horrible marks on the hood and leaves terrible water spots on the vehicle that are almost impossible to remove. taking to the dealer for the new paint issue tomorrow. i am hoping to just trade in and get another car...unfortunately under the circumstances it will be a nissan...but will not be an altima!

filling the fuel tank the gas pump shut off thinking the tank was full when if fact the fuel gauge showed it wasn't full, i proceeded to fill the tank again and it took an additional 2 gal. before it registered full, i did this two other times and the same thing occurred, in addition i would drive approximately 60miles and the fuel gauge would show that i used approximately 4-5gal of gas? this is a 4 cly. i took it to the dealer and they encountered the same problem, they replaced the fuel filler valve and that didn't help, then they replaced the fuel pump, that didn't help, i'm scheduled to go to the dealer again. something is not calibrated to the fuel gauge, i don't get a reasonable reading of how much fuel i have and i want to top off once. i purchased the 2012 in feb. 2013 as a certified pre-own.

headliner was made incorrect for all 2012 models and nissan is aware and refuses to issue a recall. we have two of the same year altima purchased on the same date. also there is something wrong with the suspension still and when i turn to left it makes a popping sound. went in to get oil changed and was told i had an oil leak that was going back into my engine and blew one of my cylinders and tore an o-ring so had to have that replaced. also something wrong with rear defroster that required back windshield to be replaced. horrible control issues when going over 50 mph. also sunroof repaired several times due to repeatedly breaking on the track piece. this car as very poorly made and nissan will not own up to their mistakes. also breaks squeak non stop and grind and have since cars were purchased, nissan informed us this was normal since they have metal break pads on the 2012 models. if i could give cars back i would in a heartbeat. huge lemons on the 2012 hence the entire remake of the 2013's, they knew they messed up.

the "passenger air bag off" light on even when an adult passenger is in the passenger seat. it goes off after like 10-15 minutes. this happens very frequently and i believe those 10-15 minutes without passenger air bag off is too dangerous to live with in case if some accident happens.

i had pulled into a parking lot at a local gym, as i placed the car in park, the vehicle continued to stay in drive and surged forward into the building. once the vehicle hit the building, i once again tried to place the car in park, and it once again surged forward and hit the building. the only way i could stop the car was to hit the power button to turn the car off. once the officer arrived on scene, he asked me to place the car in neutral so that he could move the car off the curb, however, the car continued to move forward. as a result the car was once again powered down to avoid any further incident.

bought this car nov 30 2013 from the dealer that originally owned it, it was a loaner car for their service dept. from day one that i have owned it, the passenger airbag light goes on an off at will. with nothing in the seat, it comes on and off, with a person in the seat it also comes on and off. this is a major safety issue! i took it to the dealer and they said it didn't do it while they were looking at it. bring it back when it gets worse.... there are alot of these cars out there with this problem! there needs to be a recall on the sensor/seat/electrical system related to this. i am sure there is a short in the system. my grandmother's 2012 altima also does this same thing. also something is leaking onto the passenger side floorboard by the console. the dealer said it was a body panel and "fixed" it, but it is still leaking in the same spot, i have not had time to take it back to the dealer yet for the leak.

altima was serviced at a dealership less than a week ago for oil and filter change. i was driving the 2012 altima from work on 4/10/14. it looked the car was stalling on the highway multiple times. i slowed down and managed to get home, all along it looked like it was going to stop any time, luckily it did not happen. but this morning (4/11/14) it stopped on the driveway stalled after moving 15 feet. towed the car to the dealership to get it repaired.

when applying brake at low speeds (10-30 mph) the brake grabbed and threw occupants forward. on one occasion the wheels froze with brake pedal only 20% depressed. the problem is intermittent but repeatable. dealer claims it is caused by defective brake power booster. very dangerous failure mode. not covered by warranty.

pushed brake to start stopping, brakes shuttered. let up on brake, then reapplied and it shuttered again. this continued. checked brake fluid, it was down slightly, put in to fill. problem better but still exists, now air compressor gone.. this car was bought in oct 2012 what a lemon. thank goodness it is a lease. noise under car since day bought. at 30 mph it sounds like something hits something under there. dealer says, just nature of car. i do not buy that explanation.

2012 nissan altima. consumer writes in regards to cvt transmission failure. *smd the consumer stated he started noticing little glitches, in otherwise smooth rides. then he started experiencing a 2-3 second delay between depressing the accelerator and the vehicle actually moving. on wednesday april 9, 2014, he was barely able to drive to work, and had to coast with his hazard lights on. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the consumer was informed it would cost $ 3911 to fix the cvt transmission.

driving long distances my car overheats, looses power going from 70 mph down to 40 mph in high speed traffic. i am forced to get off the highway and let it reset itself. it has always made a whining noise during acceleration, and the brakes have squeaked from day one. i have complained to nissan several times and am always been given lame excuses. now that my warranty is up they have a solution to my problems. new transmission or overheat converter to the tune of $1600. how convenient they have a solution not that my car is out of warranty!! they refuse to help me or fix my car unless i fork over the money. my car has had problems since i purchased it and there was never any resolve. i purchased an extended warranty as i do a lot of driving. my car was out of warranty 2,000 miles when they miraculously found a cause and solution for my problem.

on monday night at 12:00am i was driving from california to las vegas nevada. i was going 75 miles an hour when the car started to loose speed. the excel-orator would not move and had locked.the car speed had dropped to 40mph and would not move. there was a semi in front of me and two other vehicles to the side of me. i almost got into a big accident. i was able to pull over to the side. terrified, i began to panic so i shut the car off. i drove the next 60 miles to vegas going 30mph the car would not go to a higher speed. when i took the car to the dealer they said it was a safety feature. i do not understand how a safety feature would deliberately jeopardize the safety of the driver. it is driving on the highway for fear that this may happen again.

we were driving on the interstate at about 70 mph and were unable to accelerate. accelerator peddle all the way to the floor and the most we could go was 45 mph. had the car towed to a nissan dealership and found out it was the shift select assembly that had broken/malfunctioned and the car had gone in to failure mode. there was not warning light at all and this could have been very dangerous on the interstate. first i feel that this part of the car should never have broken in a 2-year old car and i have to wonder if there is a defect in the part for this model year of the altima. second, if and when this piece does break or malfunction, there should be some sort of warning light on the dash to make the driver aware and pull over. nissan is aware of my concerns as i have shared them with their consumer affairs department.

traveling on interstate 70 mph, trying to maneuver around semi trucks and car decides to slow down to 60 mph causing several semis to slam on brakes, near accident. it was scary scary scary!!!!!! gas pedal to the floor it would not respond for several miles until it was safe to get off the interstate. once we turned the car off and got back on the road it was ok, but it happened again 2 hours later.
