i purchased my 2003 altima 2.5s new from the dealer. at approximately 50k miles i began hearing a water noise in the dash and was told by my local shop that i had a cracked radiator. i had the extended warranty so the dealership replaced the radiator for $50, they also fixed the water noise in the dash stating it was related to the radiator. now at 78k miles, i hear the water again and was told by the dealer i had another cracked radiator. i now have the third radiator in my car but still have the water noise. i do not believe 3 radiators in 4 years is "normal" wear and tear. nissan clearly has a problem with radiators/cooling systems and they need to step up and offer some resolution to the many unhappy customers that have purchased these "lemons".

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

on some minor slopes, but not all, the cvt transmission-equipped 2007 altima will roll backwards several feet while in "drive" posing a hazard to objects and persons behind the vehicle. this is consistently reproducible in our home driveway but not on steeper slopes such as a parking garage. the surprising condition caused my wife to panic and almost lose control, nearly striking another vehicle. the dealership has been very responsive. however, as of this posting, nissan north america acknowledges but refuses to fix the issue. *jb

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

while driving 60 mph the car jerked forward as if there was a hard shift, the rpms dropped, and vehicle started to decelerate. i thought the cruise control disengaged so i pressed the gas pedal and i was still decelerating. i pulled to the side of the highway. within 30 smoke started coming out from underneath the hood on the drivers side and through the vents. i got out of the car and went to safe place on the side of the road and turned to see the inside of the car completely filled with black smoke. within a minute the flames came out from under the hood of the car. within 10 minutes the car was completely engulfed in flames. this was a rental vehicle that was just completing a round trip of 180 miles. it was approximately 93 degrees with a heat index of 100. he vehicle was rented through enterprise rent-a-car. the agreement number id d-590774 with claim number 76j52. *ak

within a week of purchasing the car i noticed that the light indicating that the passenger side airbag was off would illuminated when the 180 lb husband would sit in the passenger seat properly restrained. not only would it come on and stay on, but it would go off after a little while then come back on. a while later, it would come back on, then go off again. the dealership where i purchased the car reset the computer, but the problem occurred again. at this time, i had a 55 lb child sit in the passenger seat and buckle up the light did not come on. as i understood , it was designed to come on in this situation. the dealership has since put a seat from a new vehicle . nissan was in no hurry to ship the dealer a new seat into the car, but the same problem happened again. now, when i have articles that were somewhat heavy , 20-30 lb, ) in the passenger seat without the seat belt buckled the light will come on, go off, and come back on again multiple times at odd intervals. i didn't believe the sensor is working properly when anyone was in the car.*ak

after heating up (an hour or so of driving), the check engine light comes on and the transmission begins to fail. push the gas pedal all the way down, and the rpm's go way up, but car barely accelerates. first attempt at dealership, they could not find the problem. a day later, the problem happened again. the second attempt, they replaced the transmission control module. a day later, it happened again. currently at the dealership for the third time. car only has 4,500 miles on it. beginning to get pretty frustrating.

after being involved in a 3-car accident on the nj turnpike at 3:15p.m. the air bags did not deploy, everyone was wearing seat belts, yet no one was hurt, not even a whip lash. the left side sustained headlight and hood damage, drivers door would not open and it appeared that the radiator was busted since liquid was pouring out. we were towed to the nearest collision place and geico towed it from there to its own shop. since the car was so new, geico had some difficulty in obtaining part numbers and cost. the next call from geico was to tell us that the car was totaled. the battery exploded. battery acid eating most of the components under the hood. question which was defective.. the air bags the electrical system or the battery why would a battery explode when the car did not have enough impact to deploy the air bags?

i leased a nissan altima 2007 five months ago. the vehicle had about 7000 miles on it when last night i was driving on the nj parkway and my accelerator wouldn't work, so i coasted to the shoulder dodging cars along the way. at this point the check engine light came on. when i reached the shoulder i could see flames under my hood. within ten minutes the entire car was engulfed in flames and had several small explosions. please help me to find out what i can do. since this i have found that there have been 30 similar complaints about the car and when i contacted the car dealer they tried to act like they have never heard of this complaint. *jb

i was driving a nissan altima hybrid with approx. 4000 miles at 65 mph. all of a sudden the engine/gas peddle was not responding and smoke started to fill the front of the car. i pulled over on the highway and the front end of the car was on fire. the vehicle was a total loss.

while driving north on i15 at the el cajon pass in calif., my 2007 nissan altima stalled. i pulled to the side of the road and tried to restart it. it would not start so i was going to get out of the car when black smoke came out of the air conditioning vents. the passenger and i got out of the car and, at that moment, flames came out from under the hood. we got away from the car and called 911. with in a minute the car was fully engulfed in flames. as we continued to walk away from the car, the hillside next to the car caught on fire. we moved to the median, but the fire jumped to the median which surrounded us in fire and smoke. a truck stopped and drove us out of the situation. after getting home, i found on the internet that there was a recall (june 2007) of my model of car because it might catch on fire. i was not told of this upon purchasing the car, when i had it in for service 3 months later, or by mail the entire time i owned the car.

engine coolant air intake filter caught a smoker cigarette while driving and started to smoke the best thing for the air filter intake is to install a screen metal mesh to protect the filter from any debri from matches, cigarette, cigars and the famous one black males from young drivers that use it to insert marijuana in them to conceal from law enforcement.

i am writing to inform you of a safety concern i have with my 2007 nissan altima hybrid. the vehicle is equipped with tcs and vdc. on december 13, 2007 we got approximately 6 inches of snow during the day while i was at work. on my way home i approached switzer hill road and saw that it had been sanded so i turned and started up the hill. approximately 40 yards up the hill the tcs light came on and my car stopped. the front wheels would not turn at all. i was forced to turn around on the hill and come back down. i was very fortunate that no one was coming down the hill at that time or it could have been disastrous for my self and/or others. the owner¿s manual for the vehicle refers to an off switch for both the tcs and vdc systems in case of an emergency. the manufacture has acknowledged that there are times when the system may need to be turned off. my vehicle has neither switch installed so i am unable to turn off either system in the event i am in heavy snow or mud. the non hybrid version of this vehicle has the switch installed as per the owner¿s manual. i have been in contact with the dealer and nissan both in writing and on the phone. they have stated that the system is working properly because it does apply brake to the wheel that is slipping, and also reduce power from the engine. the problem is that the system works too well. the vehicle has the potential to come to a complete stop and strand the operator. with out the off switch there is no way to move a stuck vehicle. the reason i was given for the switch having not been install is that they thought it might cause the battery to be discharged. as per the manual the system automatically turns back on when the car is turned off. nissan only sells the hybrid in a limited number of states. most of which are in the northeast where it does snow.

we bought a 2007 altima (used) which still had all original manufacture parts on it. the second day that we had it the brakes started squealing. when i took it to the dealer they had it from 7am until i finally got it back at 11pm which seemed weird and upset me very much. they told me that all they needed to do was clean the pads and for extra help they sprayed some stuff on them to keep it from squealing. the next day started squealing again, so i took it back and they told me that they just found out that nissan's corporate tech's were trying to find out what caused all of the altima's to have this issue. then they wanted to put new pad on for me to see if it would help. i agreed and to bring it in the next day and i went home and marked the pads myself and when i took it in i asked to see the old pads when they were finished. when i went in and they showed me the pads they were not the ones i marked and they insisted that they were and the issue was fixed. and they said there will probably be a fix or a recall by next year and to just deal with it if it started squealing again which started as i was still in the dealers parking lot. please help.

i was just wondering if they have been a concern with 2007 nissan's, my air bag seems to come on and off when it wants to i didn't know if this was the way they work or if there is a problem with it. because when some one is on the passenger side it goes on and off constant. i will put a date in, but cant be correct if it is the correct date but i purchased mine in may 2007 i noticed it about a few months later.

there is an issue with seat rails in my 07 nissan altima. when i have to stop sudden, hard the seat shifts forward and back. they have replaced 2 times already, but need to be done again. nissan told me they new they had an issue after 2nd repair, that is why they took over month tom fix., now they want to fix with same broken parts, even though originally corporate tech told the dealer not to replace until they had a fix for the problem, they were over ridden by the area rep here. they can not guaranty me it will fix the problems, as well as they can not tell me the seat is going to stop if i had to break for an accident. put a buy back and nissan basically has told me to eat the car nd that they wasn't to keep fixing it. the seat shifting is a safety issue and looking at the nissan altima forums, this is a common issue with this car. had the car in at 1550, and 3000 miles to repair this part, then again in march 08.

i drive a 2007 altima and the passenger airbag light goes on and off and at times stays on for a while, up to 15 miles while driving. we've took it twice to get fix at the dealer ship and the first time they replace the seat liner and that worked for two weeks and the back to the same thing. we took back and they said there was nothing wrong. again the light comes on once in a while and the director at the dealer ship ask us to bring it back, again they could not find anything wrong. we also purchase the extended warranty and as of now it's still malfunctioning every so often. i'm just worry it will not perform properly when needed. now i just don't know what else to do. i don't feel safe to carry my family in the passenger seat anymore.

we purchased the car new and never experienced any problems with it, at 7k to 8k miles my wife was driving down the highway with our 6mth old baby, she was going to make an attempt to switch lanes and pass a car when the car hesitated and jerked, she thought she was hit from the back but there were no cars behind her, she tried accelerating again and it jerked and wouldn't go at that point the car just died. she managed to pull it over on the shoulder and called me to tell me what was going on. i advise my wife i would be on my way, a minute later i get another call back from her and she tells me that the car is smoking from the front, i tell her it probably is overheating and to stay in the car (we hang up). she calls me one more time about half a minute after and tells me more smoke is coming out and tells me is black smoke, i tell her that black smoke means something is on fire, as im telling her this she tells me that smoke is now coming from the ac vents, that's when i tell her to get out and take the baby and to call 911. i tell her im on my way and we hang up. 2 minutes later she tells me it caught fire and the fire department is on the way. the fire department put the fire out but the car is not totaled at the bodyshop, the car was all burned from the front doors all the way to the front bumper.

i have taken my altima to the dealer numerous times for a problem with the air bag passenger sensor for the passenger side of the vehicle. the light indicating that the air bag is functioning is coming on and off randomly when someone is seated there. sometimes it will indicate that the air bags are shut off for the entire time that someone is seated, and sometimes it will come on and off intermittently. this is irregardless of the weight of the passenger. also, it will malfunction when no one is in the passenger seat. i am unsure whether the air bag will function in the event of an accident in this state. nissan has replaced the passenger seat cushion 3 times with no effect, and tells us that is the only part that has anything to do with the passenger air bag. laughably, they also tell me that the passengers must be squirming around. based on the number of similar complaints that are filed here, i feel that it is prudent for nhtsa to take action.

i have a 2007 nissan altima. since 7500 miles, my brakes squeak when brake pedal is pressed. i have had my car in numerous times at the nissan dealership and have been told that there is nothing wrong with my brakes. they acknowledge that they hear the squeak but do not consider it a defect. i complained to nissan usa and was told that when they contacted the dealership that checked the brakes, they were told that there was not a problem and they were never able to duplicate the noise that i was hearing when i stopped. i told was told via email that there was nothing that nissan north america could do to help me. this is very poor customer service. i was also told that when it was time for a brake job, the new pads should not squeak. the service tech told me that the 2008 altima's did not have this problem.

on the dashboard there is a passenger airbag status indicator. the light comes on when i have a full grown adult. according to the manual the light should not come on when there is an adult in the seat. i asked the dealer about this and the sensor shouldn't trip unless there is someone that weighs less then 100 lbs. my passenger is close to 200 lbs, but the sensor still indicates the passenger airbag system is off. this happens multiple times over the course of the last month. i have made an appointment to have it serviced.

on 12/13/2008 at 9:00 a.m. my 24 year old daughter entered her 2007 nissan altima and was going x-mas shopping. the entrance to the expressway is less then one quarter mile. she entered the expressway and changed lanes to the far left. approximately one mile of driving on the expressway her steering wheel locked and she was unable to navigate the steering. she started to brake and as she was attempting to navigate and slow her vehicle on the expressway, the steering wheel started to spin causing her to crash into the median wall. no injuries, no other vehicles damaged but her vehicle had extensive damage to the front grill ,fenders and bumper. this is the first time the steering wheel locked.

while traveling approx 50mph approaching a curve brake pedal was depressed and car would not stop. driver noticed traffic slowing and reacted by shifting car to neutral and slowly applying parking brake. doing such caused car to fishtail and slide (as roads were wet) and caused a collision. driver has complained since 2007 to dealership regarding brakes and told each time (4 complaints) that nothing is wrong with brakes. brakes were "replaced" 6 months ago by dealership (customer paid) however brake issues still remained. such negligence has resulted in a car accident and thousands in property damage.

no particular events; low tire pressure light came on when there was no problem. not sure of occurrence interval but has happened three times. the consequences are that the light stays on continuously and occasionally starts to blink resulting in driver concern over nothing. have taken vehicle to dealership and they say "no problem with sensors but recommend setting air pressure to 38 psi to get light to stay off" which is 6psi above air pressure decal on door frame that recommends 32 psi. they say this pressure (38 psi) will not impact tire wear which i disagree with completely as well as if you have a 10% pressure build up from normal driving it would exceed the tire manufacturer maximum tire pressure of 41psi.

while driving our 2007 nissan altima the engine stalled. upon exiting the car we saw smoke coming out from the hood. after opening it, we saw the air filter housing glowing and the smoke coming from it. the police pulled the air filter out which stopped the smoking. the car was towed to a nissan dealer who wound up replacing the air filter assembly, cover, air flow sensor, etc for $888.19. the only explanation they could give me for the cause was a cigarette butt or something similar got sucked unto the air intake. there were no other components involved that could have caused this. i had done some research and found a recall for this exact problem - pe07026. i was told my vehicle was not part of this recall and nothing could be done to help us. the dealer brought in a nissan representative who would not honor our request. i also had purchased an extended warranty through nissan but was told this wasn't covered. since the cause of this fire is an exact match to the reason for this recall i believe the recall was not as comprehensive as it should have been. if this can happen to us while just driving on a highway, it can happen to any other owners of this vehicle. the dealer has been in contact with nissan to try to get this covered but has been unsuccessful.

follow up to complaint number 10198578. the entire cvt transmission was eventually replaced while the car had only 4500 miles on it. at around 60,000 miles the check engine light came on (8/31/09) so i took it to do the dealership and they received transmission codes. nissan headquarters got involved and determined another transmission was needed. this will be my third transmission on a car that is a little over 2 years old and has only 60,000 miles on it. nissan has said that the cvt transmissions have had few problems, and instead of repairing them, they are just getting replaced. no further explanation was given. i think it's ridiculous.

passenger air bag light is not active while passenger is in seat. this problem happens intermittently. my wife and i are both about 160lbs and when we sit in passenger seat the "not active" airbag light comes on the vehicle. i contacted nissan about it and they said there was no issue. i took it to the dealer and they could not reproduce. i submitted an issue on nissan website and have not heard anything. if i get in an accident and the airbag does not deploy there could be serious injury or death to the passenger. now there is a recall on the product but dealership is telling me my car is not listed and i have to pay to get it looked at when i'm still under factory warranty. there is no specific incident date since it occurs so randomly.

i owned a 2007 altima at the time. the problem occurs at speeds over 45 mph. if emergency brakes are slammed and lockup until vehicle comes to complete stop the throttle becomes totally unresponsive for up to 1 minute. this happened to me at an intersection and scared the¿!@#$% out of me. similar thing occurred a few days later. i decided to test if this issue can be duplicated. it can with almost 100% accuracy. took car to dealership. duplicated the issue for their confirmation and left car for examination. according to service rep "it is to dangerous to drive car in this condition". a few hours later got a call from dealer with the following explanation. they tested this issue and were able to repeat it on 3 identical cars. apparently manufacturer told them that this is an expected behavior to protect certain components of a car transmission. i have been in contact with nissan usa and was told that this is not a defect but a design to protect transmission. i have taken several other altimas for test drive and spoke to a number of people. apparently this issue affects all altimas equipped with cvt but not with abs. i believe that abs allows transmission to rotate thus correcting the issue. as far as i am concerned not been able to move a car for up to a minute after an emergency braking could be more dangerous then the emergency itself. can you visualize your self being stuck at an intersection (happened to me) or on a highway? this issue can be easily duplicated . i have traded my car in as i was too scared to drive it.

i own a 2007 6-speed manual transmission nissan altima that persistently malfunctions. since that november date and having reported this problem to the nissan dealership on january 5, 2009, i have experienced on the highway and city streets with passengers, the manual transmission would not upshift, would not downshift, nor release from the position it was in. after repeatedly returning the vehicle to the nissan dealership for the same under warranty repair, the same problem persists to date! despite the dealerships claim of clutch master cylinder and transmission replacement, pressure plate and disc replacement, i have no confidence that this problem will cease to occur, as it is idiopathic and the re-occurrence is unpredictable. thus, operating this vehicle could cause accidental injury or even death. i continue to report my concern to nissan north america usa and to date have not received any satisfaction to quell the unsafe fear factor in owning and operating this vehicle that has not owned up to the nissan manufacturer's moniker, "made to drive. built to last." this internet correspondence serves as my official complaint and request for the office of defects investigation (odi) to open an investigation regarding the 2007 6-speed manual transmission nissan altima.

tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. whenever someone sits in the front passenger seat, the air bag light would flash indicating that the air bag was deactivated. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer on march 9th to have the front passenger seat air bag sensor replaced. in december the problem recurred with the front passenger air bag light indicating that the air bag was off. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the air bag light and sensor and they sent a technician to diagnose the vehicle. the technician could not recreate the problem with the air bag light or sensor; therefore, the manufacturer will not repair the vehicle. the contact is concerned about the risk involved due to the air bag sensor malfunctioning and the potential for a serious injury in the event a crash occurs. the failure mileage was 15,211.

this is a recurring problem. i have a 2007 nissan altima 2.5s. as indicated by the safety light on the dashboard, the passenger side airbag in my vehicle will turn on and off repeatedly when i have a passenger sitting in the seat. this is despite knowing the passenger weighs far more (over 150 lbs) than the safety limits for which the airbag should be designed to turn off. the airbag indicator will light notifying us that the passenger airbag has turned off and will often remain lit for 20-30 minutes at a time, but the time will vary. but almost 60-70% of the time when i have a passenger in my vehicle for longer than 5 minutes, at some point in the trip the airbag will turn off for a significant amount of time. this has been brought to the dealer for inspection and i have notified nissan corporate, neither of which has resulted in anything beyond a cursory inspection which resulted in no action being done. this has been on-going for some time now. the "incident date" reported below is when i first began to notice the issue. but again, this is an on-going issue. research online shows that on various forums, i'm not the only one to experience this problem. and again, this happens often enough that i think it more than accounts for simple "sitting awkwardly" or in a weird position. *tw

on 01/25/2010, i was driving from work and while i attempted to stop to a light,the brakes failed to respond. i couldn't control the car anymore. the car slid, and hit another car in the back,but because the speed was low, the damage was minor. after that, the car was frozen ; the police came and the car was towed to a nearby autobody shop; after the outside damage was fixed, the car was transported to a nissan dealership because the car was not drivable.(the soft ware was messed up,as the dealer told me).at the nissan dealership, the software was reset. they couldn't guarantee though that this incident will not happen again. i contacted the manufacturer and explained that this car had a general inspection less than 2 months prior the accident and the annual revision less than3 weeks prior the accident, and now, even the car was fixed the nissan dealer cannot guarantee that the system will not fail again. the manufacturer decided to sent the car for another inspection to the same nissan dealer that couldn't guarantee the safety of my car. at this point, i am afraid driving the car.

rear stabilizer/sway bar broke and fell down next to the rear suspension. the broken part should not have failed and could have caused damage to rear brake/suspension resulting in loss of control. i called local nissan service manager and he indicated they had observed sway bar failure, but there were no service bulletins/recalls.

i was involved in a car accident last sunday and my 2007 nissan altima was damaged irreversibly with the front of the car, including the engine, pushed inward and the frame of the car bent. the car was hit twice first by left side by a car coming at 50 miles per hour and on the right side when my car turned and hit the car on my right side. with this serious damage, the airbag did not deploy. i will like someone to investigate if it is because of flaw in the car. i cant imagine what would have happened if the accident was bigger and the airbag did not work...

while either starting or after starting my 2007 nissan altima when depressing the brakes the rear brake lights do not engage. this cause my vehicle to either not start or the brake lights to not work properly. i have brought my car to the dealership 3 times to include while under warranty but they told me there was nothing they could do unless they could duplicate the problem. last night while driving home my lights worked fine. then i parked my car for about 10 minutes and my brake lights would not work. this could cause serious problems if needed to stop fast. i have read forums where other people have had the same problem with their vehicles, like year and model. while driving the car at night it is easier to tell that the brake lights do not light up. but during the day you expect the lights to work and they might not.

2007 nissan altima wears & cups rear tires so bad the steel belts show and the tires have to be replaced at 20,000 miles. i had the rear springs, shocks and wheel bearings replaced and rear wheels aligned and tires still showed the same damage at 20,000 miles. this type of wear could cause driver to loose control of the car.

my car would not start consistently. i have a 2007 nissan altima with push button start. you have to engage the brake for the start button to work (and have itelli key). the brake light was not registering regularly, so you could start your car and drive somewhere and be stuck. i am lucky i have an honest mechanic who figured out it was the brake safety switch under the pedal and replaced it to resolve the issue. when nissan was notified they confirmed they have sold that part very often. i would think this part should not be one that stops working so easily and is a recall/manufacturing issue.

i noticed a noise coming from the engine whether the engine was cold or not. it was louder as i accelerated and diminished as i the rpms went down. it was a sound similar to the sound that cards make when inserted into bicycle spokes. after a quick inspection the nissan dealership was able to ascertain that the transmission is cracked and needs replaced. several weeks later i am still waiting a new transmission due to high demand.

"brake" light came on instrument panel. 2. light first came on about one month ago and has gone on and off since then. brakes will sometimes lurch and almost feel like i have no brakes. i have had no wrecks yet but have had some close calls since it feels like i cannot stop at first. 3. the nissan dealership said that the master solenoid or master cylinder is leaking and needs to be replaced for almost $500 and that this has been pretty common on altimas with various mileage. numerous others have had this same problem that i have seen on the internet.

my brake light on the console stays on for long periods of time and then turns off. i went to nissan and they told me that there was a leak in the brake master cylinder and with the part and labor it was about $450! my car is no longer under warranty but as i do my research online i find that this is happening to other nissan owners not only 2007 altimas. there is already a recall for the brake master cylinders for sentras. why not for altimas? it is clear that there is a issue and there is historical data to prove it. why do i have pay $450 out of my pocket when it is a know issue that nissan is aware of? do they want to wait till there are a lot of accidents before they do something about it? please investigate on our behalf so that nissan will remedy the situation and start a recall.

i have push button start. when i push the button it will click as if the battery is dead (new battery) and then nothing. i push 7 to 16 more times and then the car starts. it may do that several days in a row, several times on one day, or not for several weeks. i took it to my mechanic (not nissan) and the diagnostic test showed nothing wrong. mechanic thought maybe it could be a starter beginning to go bad but there was nothing to point to the starter. he called it a "ghost" problem because it comes and goes. it seems to me that the problem is the ignition switch. once it catches, the car runs just fine. i believe my issue is related to the present nissan recall although my car is not part of the group. i have not taken it to nissan yet because it has been working for two weeks. i bought the car new in august 2007.

i drove my wife's car today i noticed a clunk noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. since i work in a repair facility i put the car in the air to notice that the rear swaybar has snapped in two. i called nissan but there are no open campaigns. i own three nissans i think the manufacture should take care of it. 2007 nissan altima with 22,163 miles on it. there are no marks around sway bar it just rusted thru. this should not happen to a car a little over three years old.

2007 nissan altima, rear sway bar broke just inside of the passenger side mounting bracket. rust was the ultimate condition which led to failure, but defect in the original part must have been present for corrosion to begin. light highway and city conditions. car never overloaded or abused. replaced with new sway bar at owners expense and labor. i have kept the old part for reference if a recall were to take place in the future.

my brake light has been going on and off for a couple of years now on my 2007 nissan altima. i have the car 3 years now and the dealership addressed the issue by resetting the alarm and topping off the brake fluid. now, they tell me that i need to pay $560 to replace the master cylinder brake and if i don't it will fail and i could be involved in a fatal crash depending on where i am at when it happens. of course my car is just out of warranty. i see many complaints on this and the nissan sentra was recalled. why not the nissan altima. it's almost like they are gambling with our lives and taking care of the situation only after the warranty has run out. toyota apparently was not the only one with a brake issue!!

march 2010 my 2007 nissan altima se started smoking out of the exhaust when first starting after sitting awhile. the check engine lamp came on.the altima had less than 40,000 miles on it. the smoking got to the point of smoking all the time with dense black smoke. i checked the oil and found it low. after performing an oil & oil filter service, i started monitoring my oil level and found the 3.5 v6 engine was showing signs of excessive oil consumption. i checked the engine lamp codes(po420-3way catalyst function and po300-multi cylinder mis-fire). i took my altima to the dealership i bought it from and had it checked under my warranty, 60 month /75,000 miles gold preferred plan. on the repair order it stated "ses needs engine / slugged". i was charged $107.07 and was told this was not a warranty issue. i contacted the quality control engineer @ nissan north america's headquarters in franklin, tn and she set up a diagnostic inspection with the field rep from the engine plant / deccard tn. he stated since the tires were needing replacing in the near future and the altima needed washing, it was a sign of neglect and there-fore the smoking and oil consumption was not a warranty issue. the rep said the check engine lamp code was for reference:ntb10-009 - a seized exhaust sensor, which was covered under warranty but not related to the smoking/oil consumption issue. i was employed at the time of this issue with nissan north america, smyrna tn. i was a pre-delivery repair tech @ the manufacturing plant for 25 years until my retirement june 28, 2010. i used the same diagnostic tools that the dealer used and the engine plant field rep used on my car and know for a fact this is a warranty issue. i followed - up the complaint @https://survey.nissan.usa.com with no results.

i bought this car brand new when it was released in late december 2006, almost 2 years later, i had informed my tech when i would bring my car in for scheduled oil changes that i hear a slight noise coming from under the car and sometimes a vibration, over these next few months and yeas i have been told it was either a bend in my rim, needing new tires, to having exhaust leaks or alignment needed. so i would take it to another shop and they would tell me different or if they confirmed i would get the service done at a licensed mechanic. over time the noise grew louder and louder and dismissed each time i bought the car in for service. until recently i figured out that the noise would only be heard and present after highway driving for 45min or more. so i reproduced the conditions before i took the car to the dealer for diagnostics then the advised me that there was sever rust taking place inside the transmission. the tech preceded to tell me that may have started when my car was in an accident 3 years ago in 2008. i contacted the bodyshop that did the repairs the provided paperwork proving that my transmission was never effected or touched as part of the accident. the transmission is still under warranty, and i even have paperwork from the same nissan dealership that shows that nissan did a multipoint inspection where they inspected the transmission and its fluid just 8 months prior and found it to be in good condition n no presence of rust or fluid issues. nissan is refusing to own up to the malfunctioning of there cvt transmission and cost for replacement.

i have a 2007 nissan altima with 90,000 miles on it. all of a sudden i noticed when checking my air pressure that a piece of metal was hanging down under the rear passenger side of the vehicle near the suspension. i took the vehicle to my mechanic and he told me the rear sway bar on the passenger side had snapped in half. he asked me if i had hit anything and i replied no... he also found no damage around the area to suggest that i had hit something. so when i arrived back at my house i did some searching on the internet and to my surprise this seems to be a somewhat wide spread issue with alot of others owning my same vehicle. i spoke to my local nissan dealers in jacksonville florida who informed me they had never heard of such a thing, and had never received a vehicle in for service with this issue. so then i called nissan consumer affairs directly, who also stated they had never heard of this issue, which i find very hard to believe considering a simple internet search will reveal numerous people have had and reported this problem! i believe this is definitely a product defect, and nissan should issue a recall immediately!

CHILD SEAT

i own 2 sunshine kids radian xstl car seats. both seats were purchased at the same time and are installed next to the window seats in my 2007 nissan altima. both superlatch belts loosen themselves when attached to the latch system in the car. i am appalled! my children have not been safely secured due to this! i have installed and uninstalled both seats many times and make sure the seats are installed securely each time. the belt that tightens the superlatch hits right at the belt path and will tightened when installing, but loosens easily even when it is not touched. i want my children safe! the "brake" light on my 2007 altima had been coming on briefly then going off again for extended periods for about three or four months. i had the car at the dealership for a transmission issue at 40,000 miles and mentioned the "brake" light issue as an aside. dealer then inspected and said there was an internal leak inside of the brake master cylinder and that it would need to be replaced at a cost of $460.00 i agreed to the replacement because dealer said that brake failure could occur if not replaced. my research indicated that others were having a similar issue with the faulty brake master cylinder with this make and model.

i own a 2007 nissan altima. i noticed a piece of metal hanging from under the car close to the rear driver side tire. i took it to the dealer last tuesday afternoon and they said the sway bar was broke. the car has not been under any abuse. i am the only one who has ever driven this car. because of the broken sway bar it cause the ball linkage joints to wear and the shocks to leak. it cost me $ 794.13 to have this replaced and repaired. i am very unhappy with nissan because this is a well known product defect and a safety device that has failed and should be recalled. i feel that the car may have reacted poorly in an emergency situation. i would appreciate any and all the assistance in getting a recall, bulletin or special policy to reimburse this cost to me. june 5th, 2011.

tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle began to accelerate on its own. the contact stated the vehicle also lost traction as if the transmission was slipping. the contact stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the highway and attempted to shut the vehicle off by removing the key from the ignition. the engine remained on after the key was removed from the ignition. the vehicle eventually shut off. the contact restarted the vehicle and noticed smoke escaping from the engine compartment. when the contact looked under the hood it was on fire. the fire and police department reported to the scene and report was filed. the vehicle was not repaired and was declared destroyed. the contact was not made aware of what caused the fire to occur. when the contact purchased the vehicle the dealer did not notify him of nhtsa recall campaign id number: 07v267000 (engine and engine cooling) which the vehicle was included and could be related to the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000.

i own a 2007 nissan altima. single car owner - no abuse or damage. heard something dragging under car yesterday 6-20-11. stopped to look under car - something dragging by rear passenger tire. took car to firestone - was told rear sway bar broken. guy at firestone said he has repaired 3 of these on nissan altima's in past 6 months. funny thing, i called large nissan dealer and asked if a recall was in place. large nissan dealer has no idea that so many rear sway bars on 2007 nissan altima's broken. even said that they have not seen such at their dealership...hmmmmm!

on july 8, 2009 took vehicle into nissan north for service and requested they check the sunroof as well, it had been squeaking when operated - opening and closing. nissan lubed the track. on march 19, 2010 took vehicle into nissan north for service and requested they check the windows and sunroof, sunroof still squeaking off and on when operated - opening and closing. nissan lubed windows for noise. june 2011 took vehicle into nissan north because sunroof made and awful noise and stopped working in mid-close. the service technician manually had to close the sunroof.

on june 8, 2009 took vehicle into nissan north for routine maintenance, but also requested the brakes to be checked because they had just recently began to grind. with this service, nissan noted a complete brake inspection was performed and nothing was found to be wrong with the brakes. before i got home, the brakes began grinding again so took the vehicle back into nissan north on june 9, 2009. although, just the day before we'd been told nothing was found wrong with the brakes they charged us $100.00 to machine the front rotors. on july 8, 2009 took the vehicle back into nissan north because the brakes were now grinding much worse than initially. nissan said they could lubricate pads, but not much else. on march 19, 2010 took the vehicle back into nissan and they replaced the front pads and turned the rotors as well as replaced the rear brakes and turned the drums and rotors at a cost of $400.00 to us. brakes have squeaked off and on, especially when it rains and nissan says this happens sometimes? june 2011 the brake light began coming on when the car is started, and has continued to do so intermittently.

i am the owner and sole operator of a 2007 nissan altima 3.5se with 37,000 miles. the rear sway bar snapped while making a right turn into a parking lot under normal driving conditions. the car is very well cared for and has never been driven harshly. further, this is a part that should, realistically, _never_ fail under normal driving conditions; and upon doing some research on the internet, i have found that this is a common problem for this model and year of manufacture. i have tried to remedy the situation with nissan dealers and with nissan's "customer care" line without satisfaction. this part is clearly defective in its manufacture and should be replaced at nissan's cost. more importantly, this is a safety concern, as failure of this part can compromise handling during emergency maneuvers. *kb

discovered today that the rear sway bar had snapped just inside of the right side center mount. there is rust inside the hollow sway bar. i have not hit any pot holes or curbs or bumps that would cause this damage, nor is there any other damage to the suspension. the sway bar appears to have snapped from being weakened by rust.

brake fluid leaking into master cylinder on 2007 nissan altima . brake warning light comes on in car and brakes acts as if it doesn't want to stop. took my car to the dealership sutherlin nissan and they explained it just needed a new master cylinder and there was a leakage. never mentioned a possible recall or anything. sad thing is 9 times outta 10 they were most likely aware of the issue and still charged me to diagnose the symptom. their greed to get paid 467.00 for the job itself , that they never went into details of what could happen or the dangers of continuing to drive the car, mainly what the car needed. i googled the issue and to my surprise i wasn't the only consumer affected. i never received any notices about this issue and now wants to know why. this is dangerous and deemed unsafe . i'm thankful my instances led me to google this issue because the dealership never mentioned it.

there has been no incident, but i have a concern of future failure. my car is losing brake fluid, as i've had to refill the reservoir periodically when the dash light illuminates. today, the dealer confirmed that there are no external leaks in the brake system, so it is likely inside the master cylinder. first occurrence of low brake fluid was at about 75000 miles. i am concerned that the corrosive fluid may be causing damage that will lead to a sudden failure in the braking system. i know there is an ongoing investigation for this problem, so i wanted to register my car as having the problem.

i was told when i got my oil changed at an express oil change that my brake fluid was a little low and to keep an eye on it. with in a couple days the brake light was coming on and then it would go off. it would do this on and off every time the car was driven. took the car to moore nissan in bessemer, al and told them of the problem. they checked out the car and i was told that i needed rear brakes and that my master cylinder was leaking. they showed me the leakage and i inquired as to what would cause the brake master cylinder to leak in a car that is only 4 1/2 years old. the tech said its actually a common altima problem. i said, really. i had the repairs made.

at 50,000 miles, the brake light warning indicator on my 2007 nissan altima 2.5s began intermittently illuminating on the dashboard. upon depression of the brake pedal, the light would turn off. at first, the warning light did not illuminate again after another week of driving. however, during the next several weeks, the brake warning light illuminated intermittently again and again during driving. now, it is on almost all the time unless i am depressing the brake pedal. the brake fluid level is just north of "low." so, perhaps refilling the reservoir will correct the issue. additionally, my pads are fairly worn and simply may need to be replaced. however, i have seen dozens of similar complaints online that indicate the master brake cylinder may be failing, and that is my chief concern. i have no difficulty stopping the car at this juncture. but, i have noticed that, if i depress the brake pedal just before starting the car, the pedal demonstrates a considerable amount of mechanical resistance. the amount of demonstrated resistance is directly proportional to the duration between engine starts (e.g., if the car sits for a few hours, there is minimal pedal stiffness. however, if the car is not driven for three days or more, the pedal is nearly impossible to depress until the engine turns over). i am uncertain if this is a related issue, but it is worth mentioning. *tt

i noticed around 55k miles that my brake light started coming on intermittently. it would go away if i pressed down the brake, and seemed to come on most while i was accelerating. i needed an oil change anyways, so i took it in and asked them to look at the brakes as well. they said my pads were fine. eventually the light started coming on more and more until it was on more than off. i started searching around and found that there were a lot of 2007 altimas with master brake cylinder failures where they start to leak. i went out to my car and checked the brake fluid, it was just above min. i stopped off on the way home from work, purchased some dot 3 fluid, topped it off, and the brake light hasn't been on since. it is my understanding though, brake systems are closed systems more fluid should not need to be added. i will monitor it to see if the fluid level goes down, but it appears that i have the same problem as everyone else with the master brake cylinder problems. apparently sentras have already been recalled for this, so i hope it is only a matter of time before altimas are. i really don't want to spend $500 to get this fixed if it is a widespread problem and equipment failure of nissan. *kb

on september 30th, 2011 i had to have my master cylinder replaced due to leaking. this was identified at the mccarthy nissan dealership in olathe, ks and replaced at the same location on the same date. approximately three months ago, noticed that my emergency brake light would intermittently illuminate while driving. this was noticeable during acceleration and the light would go off after i let off the accelerator or started to brake. i had the dealership look into this issue when i took my car in for a routine oil change. after the master cylinder was replaced i noticed that the braking was much smoother and more efficient. i have kept my vehicle well maintained since owning this. bought the vehicle from the dealership and have been the only owner.

i walked out of my house and my windshield was cracked on the passenger side. the crack begins at the passenger side molding of the window and spreads all the way to the middle of the window. about an hour before, there was nothing on my window. since this occurred to present, i have seen about 3 other nissan altima's and one brand new nissan maxima, with the same problem and the owners have also stated it cracked out of nowhere. i was also able to find several complaints about the same problem online.

i walked out of my house and my windshield was cracked on the passenger side. the crack begins at the passenger side molding of the window and spreads all the way to the middle of the window. about an hour before, there was nothing on my window. since this occurred to present, i have seen about 3 other nissan altima's and one brand new nissan maxima, with the same problem and the owners have also stated it cracked out of nowhere. i was also able to find several complaints about the same problem online.

sunday october 2, 2011 my car began leaking oil unexpectedly. immediately my car was taken to a mechanic where he diagnosed that the oil cooler was leaking and needed to be replaced. i was advised not to drive my car as it was losing too much oil. i contacted coggin nissan at the avenues (904-880-3000), spoke with jason in the parts department, i explained what was happening with my vehicle and he informed me that he has seen quite a few cars the same make and model as mine with the same exact issue. i strongly feel there is a defect in this part since so many cars like mine are having the same problem. i feel this issue should become part of a recall and nissan should reimburse me for the price of the part. up until now i have been very satisfied with my nissan. this has caused me a great deal of stress and money i do not have as i am a single mother with a young child to support. i really appreciate you looking into this for me.

my check engine light came on in my 2007 nissan altima. i took it to a mechanic who did a diagnostic and said that it was my catalytic converter and i needed to replace it. i looked online and found out that nissan had a recall on the catalytic converter back in 2007 but i never received it. now that my car has passed the warranty mileage, they refuse to do anything about this. i feel that they are not correctly notifying consumers of their recall information intentionally so they don't have to pay for this and all the burden will then be on the consumer. i feel nissan should take care of this since they knew there was a problem the year i bought my car.

brake booster was leaking into the master cylinder causing reduced braking efficiency and poor brake operation. brakes were also catching when releasing the brake pedal from use. low brake fluid levels in the reservoir were observed along with the illumination of the brake warning light due to low fluid levels. when fluid was topped off, the illumination light turned off, but brake catching problems continued. dealer replaced master cylinder and brake booster and the problem was resolved. dealer stated that the leak between the two components was the issue. i was charged approximately $800 for the repair.

rear sway bar broke during normal driving / operation. the sway bar on the driver's side broke through at the driver's side bushing. the broken section was eventually observed dangling beneath vehicle causing obvious safety concerns. the exact milage of component failure is unknown as bar likely was supported by bushing for sometime before becoming visable. this situation really warrents a recall in my opinion.

i have had several issues with my nissan 2007 altima. i bought it brand new with only a few hundred miles. i have had an oil leaking problem ( first it only leaked when parked, got fixed & now leaks when driving only), engine rattle, clicking when driving and not moving(sounds like diesel engine), transmission feels unsmooth sometimes when shifting(since purchased but blamed on cvt transmission & not being used to it), button under brake pedal had to be replaced (car wouldn't start when pushing button and thought it was a battery problem, but button under foot pedal was sticking & wasn't getting contact to start car) belts were rubbing strange, had to be replaced. tires are too small for car, every speed bump i ground out. engine hesitates sometimes on highway. i've had this car worked on and maintained perfectly and i have had alot of issues. i want to get a new car but feel bad selling this to anyone.

the first instance of an issue was the brake light would blink on and off in my car. i was told at the dealership that i simply needed to change my brake pads. after i changed my brake pads, the problem went away temporarily. the dealership then told me that i was simply low on brake fluid and they topped the fluid off. the light went away temporarily again. then i started to notice that my brake pedal started sticking when it was pressed. i was then told at the dealership that my break booster was bad and it needed to be replaced. i left my car at the dealership for repair. an hour later i was called by the dealership and told that they discovered my brake master cylinder was leaking and it also needed to be replaced. this is a dangerous issue with the vehicle and it needs to be addressed. i have read several other complaints of nissan altima owners having this issue.

my 07 altima has a braking problem. i push the brakes at any speed and it has a residual pop and jerk. it begins to slow down as normal and then it seems to catch again and it will jerk and become a extreme brake. i took the car to my mechanic and they replaced the pads and turned the rotors initially and bled the lines. that did not fix it. they then recommended that i take it to nissan and i did and they said it was the brake booster and i had that replaced and they realized that the master cylinder was leaking and they were both replaced but that did not fix the problem. my mechanic can not figure out what it is and it is a definite safety hazard but i have no recourse because i have to get to and from work. he has also contacted nissan and they told him that is normal for the altima's. i read that there are other altima's that have a similar type issues. i just want the issue resolved. i have a discount on my insurance that involves my good driving and i can not apply that because of the breaking issue. my insurance monitors my driving and base my discount on my driving performance.

the brake light on my car came on. i took the car into the dealership to check the brakes and was told the master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. the vehicle is a 2007 model. it seemed too new a vehicle to need such a repair. the cost was 638.95 to repair it. when i picked up the car, and started driving it again after the master cylinder was replaced, the brakes were worse than before. pedal went all the way to the floor. they had installed the new master cylinder, but the new one wasn't holding pressure, so i had no brakes. all of the brake fluid leaked from my vehicle. the car had to be towed back to the dealership. they had to replace the master cylinder yet again. i looked online and saw that the master cylinders were needing replacement in this make and model quite frequently, but a recall has not yet been issued on the problem. therefore, i am adding my complaint to the list toward that end.

2007 nissan altima - my dashboard brake warning light sporadically flashed on and off beginning a couple of weeks ago. i took the car to a nearby nissan dealership for a brake inspection. the service department representative, prior to inspection, shared that the warning light might indicate that the master cylinder might be leaking and the brakes might be good. the service mechanic observed that brake fluid levels were low and due to the master cylinder leaking into the booster. the brake pads were good. the mechanic added brake fluid. the dashboard brake warning light stopped flashing. i was quite surprised that the service department manager had a good idea that there was a master cylinder leak. i asked him about it. he said that brake master cylinder leaks were a common problem for the 2007 nissan altima. i am taking the car to a different facility for another brake inspection and repair, if necessary.

i am requesting that dot nhtsa investigate the driver's contribution to a leak with the master cylinder and to request that dot nhtsa force nissan to issue a recall. the vehicle is 2007altima 27k miles this leak causes loss of brake fluid. when enough brake fluid is loss, the brake system is not able to generate enough pressure to squeeze the brake pad to the brake rotors. end result is that the operator of the vehicle cannot stop the car (no brakes!!!). this poses serious danger to the vehicle operator, its passengers and the public. please formally investigate and when found valid, force nissan to do a recall. my personal experience: it started with the brake light turning on then after a few minutes, turn off. all the while my brakes starts to diminish. i looked the brakes system and found that the brake fluid level is low. topped it off and everything was back to normal.around 60 days later, brake light again turned on and a few minutes turned off. same problem. i had it checked with a professional mechanic. heÂ??s conclusion is that the master cylinder has a leak and needs to be replaced. a 5 year old car with 27k miles should not have a problem with the master cylinder. this is a defect that nissan needs to address with a recall before somebody gets seriously hurt due to loss of brakes. i was driving and made a right turn when my family and i heard a pop. i did not hit a pothole or anything unusual. did not realized what had happened until a few days later when i went to my mechanic to replace the struts and he informed me that the sway bar was broken. for no reason it broke and i think that it shouldn't have happened. i think nissan should make this part a recall. i love obviously nissan because in my immediate family we own three of them. i love to continue to be a nissan owner, but if they cannot continue to make reliable cars, we would have to take our business elsewhere. i hope nissan would take a close look at this problem, rectify it and continue to build dependable cars that we have grown to love.

i was driving and made a right turn when my family and i heard a pop. i did not hit a pothole or anything unusual. did not realized what had happened until a few days later when i went to my mechanic to replace the struts and he informed me that the sway bar was broken. for no reason it broke and i think that it shouldn't have happened. i think nissan should make this part a recall. i love obviously nissan because in my immediate family we own three of them. i love to continue to be a nissan owner, but if they cannot continue to make reliable cars, we would have to take our business elsewhere. i hope nissan would take a close look at this problem, rectify it and continue to build dependable cars that we have grown to love.

the engine cooling assembly on the nissan altima from 2007-2012 after they reach a certain amount of mileage they begin to start leaking oil. it starts off with just a couple of drips and over time it progressively gets worse. there are a numerous number of individuals online asking if others with the same type of vehicle are having the same problem. so obviously there is a faulty part that was installed on these vehicles that nissan is avoiding the real significance of the issue. which can cause your vehicle to lose all the engine oil without realizing it and damaging your engine. i am one of those individuals having the same issue on my vehicle, wanting nissan to take responsibility for these costs. the replacement of the engine oil cooling assembly is quite costly. this part is a part that can't be damaged by human error, it is tucked away underneath the engine . thank you

i noticed a piece hangidng down from underneath the rear driver side of my 2007 altima. i took it to the dealership and was advised i needed new sway bars and links. in addition, i would need to replace my master cylinder and rotors all for a whopping $1013.00. they also stated that the master cylinder was covered under a recall, but that the defect had nothing to do with my rotors which i find hard to believe. i purchased this car a little over a year ago from a dealer, i have always made sure my routine maintenance was taken care of, and most of the miles on my vehicle are highway miles ( 69,500 total miles),. i have two small children and very careful when i drive. i am mortified at this bill and that a recall has not been put into place for the sway bar, as i see several complaints regarding this issue with 2007 altimas in particular.

valve stem on the tpms popped off while driving because it was corroded. causes catastrophic tire deflation and loss of control of vehicle. factory tpms valve stems should be replaced from aluminum to something more resistant to corrosion. other three tire valve stems are corroded as well and may become as hazardous when driving.

i was driving my car heading home from work on the highway in steady traffic and the car wouldn't go just dropped down to zero, however the car was going about 35...i contacted my dealer and they said it was probably bad gas and to bring it in for a check..after going in and paying the 90 plus dollars i was told nothing was wrong..after time passed it didn't do it for a while and around 95thousand plus miles it did it all over again.. took car in and was told nothing was wrong..after driving and finally it wouldn't go anymore and my cars was at about 160 miles by now i took it in and was told that i need to maybe get a tune up after getting a tune up. it drove fine until i drove out of state and the car was driving but speedometer was @0. finally made it home safe after letting car cool on the highway every 50 miles and took back to shop and was told that when gettin a tune up if fluids look ok they aren't changed..so upon finding this out i was told i needed a new transmission @ a different shop put new transmission in and drove fine for 35 plus thousand miles and everything started all over again..took back and was told i needed a catalytic converter a new down flex pipe and a new transmission...i would like to know how to get a car transmission recalled or off the market cause i've never had to deal with a car like this before..i guess that's what i get for stepping out on the acura and honda family...:-) please look into this for me thank you!!

was turning out of driveway and heard a popping noise. when i stopped to look, i noticed a black bar or hose hanging from the back driver side suspension area. after research, i found that the sway bar breakage is a common issue on this year and model. we jacked the car up and saw rust on the hose. i dropped the car off at nissan this morning and they just called to confirm this is the sway bar. it is covered under my extended warranty.

POWER TRAIN

i own a nissan altima with a transmission that has failed. this is a very dangerous situation when acceleration is needed. the car rpm's run up at the same time and the car can not accelerate over 40-45 mph. i have found out nissan has had major problems with these transmission from 2007 on. nissan will not do anything about the problem.

as i was driving home from work i noticed a noise in the rear of my vehicle. i made an appointment to have it looked at and it was said to me that my rear shocks are bad and that they had seized into the knuckle and were rusted. i then proceeded to contact nissan north america to see if they would help out with this issue due to the vehicle only having 42000 miles. they told me that because i had an extended warranty and it was not nissan's, and because it was not in the factory warranty that it was not their problem. i feel that this is a safety concern because the vehicle is very well maintained and there was a recall on the rear sway bar which could have affect on the rear suspension. they did not feel that my reasoning for requesting assistance was valid and i do not feel safe driving a vehicle that could potentially fall apart while driving.

observed pipe suspended from beside right rear wheel of the 2007 nissan altima 2.5. vehicle was parked. looked under vehicle and determined it was a pipe linked to the rear wheel and suspension assemblies. the end of the pipe was nearly dragging on the ground. did internet research concluding that the broken pipe was the rear sway bar or torsion bar. prior to observing the visible hanging torsion bar end, we frequently experienced the rear end of the vehicle was unstable when cornering at highway speed such as when entering or exiting a highway ramp. given this frequent experience, the actual failure in torsion bar functional strength may have occurred months earlier. after determining there was no recall or service bulletin, and also noting that nhtsa records in this database show over 50 event descriptions nearly identical to ours, i went to the nissan dealer to ask if they offered payment or credits for this repeatable defect. the dealer was not offering any credits. then, took my vehicle to my master mechanic. he performed the service replacement of the broken sway bar and end link assemblies. we retained the broken sway bar in hopes that nhtsa begins to research this problem. according to the mechanic, this "bar" is really a 5/8" diameter pipe that seared near one of the bushing supports. there is surface rust present within the pipe indicating that the pipe had fractured some time earlier with water entering the fracture causing the rust. it is not a solid steel "bar" as typically found in other vehicles throughout the industry. cost of repair was approximately $200 for parts plus 1 hour shop labor. we respectfully request that nhtsa investigate this failure due to its apparent common failure mode and for the potential risk of injury should the rear end of the vehicle lose traction on curves or rough pavement at highway speeds.

there wasn't a specific event but only an estimated date of problem. the rear sway bar in my 2007 nissan altima snapped in half. i called the dealer and, of course, it's not under warranty and nor is there a recall on this part. i've done a lot of research and noticed many, many people have complained about this specific issue. multiple people have also contacted nissan and have awful results from their customer service. i, along with others, demand that a recall be performed on the rear sway bar for 2007 nissans. it's deplorable a billion dollar company can't own up to a manufacturing issue that many are complaining about. it also doesn't help that nissan customer service is one of the worst rated!

i contact nissan corp and file a complaint pertaining to the engine oil cooler. nissan had a recall on this part back in 2007. they call it the 2007 campaign. the results were giving to me on 6/11/2013 stating that they will not pay for the repairs. i paid 70 dollars to get the inspection at nissan for them to tell me they will not repair my car. my car is dripping more oil than usually and the issue is the same issue they recall my model car back in 2007. my car is at great risk of catching fire because of the poor quality engine.

yesterday while pulling out of a driveway, heard a sound out of the right rear of the car and after previously seeing hundreds of posts about the well known and documented rear sway bar defect in the 2007 nissan altima, i came home, jacked the car up, crawled under, and found what i suspected; the rear sway bar had snapped on the inside of the mounting bracket toward the center of the car. it's not dangling down because it's held up by the left side bracket. the portion remaining connected to the right end link is still held by the right side bracket. if someone who didn't have a clue about cars had experienced this defect, they may have driven for hundreds or thousands of miles, placing themselves, their passengers, and other drivers in danger due to a diminished capacity in the handling of the vehicle. nissan is well aware of this problem, yet fails to offer owners any assistance. the government should be aware of this problem simply because of the hundreds of complaints about this issue. the car will be repaired with a solid steel rear sway bar, not the hollow oem type from nissan. there is less than $20 difference in the cost of the parts (oem crap vs better quality solid steel). it's past time for nissan to step up and offer at least partial reimbursement to everyone that has had to repair their known defective part, and recall the car to replacement the part for those that have yet to fail. it's past time for nhtsa to "persuade" nissan to take action. what may be needed is a class action suit to begin the process of compensating altima owners that have put themselves and thousands of others unknowingly in danger. i could also mention the well known and documented issue with the air conditioner clutch in the 2007 2.5l altima, but there wouldn't be space here to do it. needless to say, i will never recommend a nissan to anyone, or ever buy one again.

while approaching the gate to my office parking lot this morning, i attempted to come to a stop while the gate opened. as i approached the gate, i could have been travelling no faster than 4-5 miles per hour. the brakes failed to react. i floored the brakes, but to no avail, and crashed into the gate. fearful of the safety of the car, i had it towed to the nissan dealership, and i was informed that there have been past issues with the 2007 nissan altima master brake cylinder. after checking the car, i was informed that it was a problem with that part. it had leaked internally and at the time i attempted to brake there was simply no more fluid to provide pressure to the brakes. i asked if this could have happened at any speed, and was told that it could have done so. apparently the nhtsa has dealt with complaints on this before, but as a second owner of the car, i had no idea this issue was out there. had i had to brake at a high rate of speed, there could have been serious casualties or even fatalities. please investigate and consider a recall of this car.

i noticed something hanging down from beneath my car while approaching the vehicle yesterday. brought the car to the dealership today and was told that the rear axle suspension bar is cracked. one nissan employee in the service department said he had "never heard of" this happening without a root cause (accident, etc.). this car has not been in an accident, has not hit any pot holes, etc. most likely the issue is due to some type of manufacturing defect that would allow the bar to either corrode or break spontaneously. i did some research to learn more about the issue and found hundreds of complaints have been lodged about this exact issue with this year, make and model. i am wondering why there has not been a recall yet. the back suspension of the car is compromised and the issue could have led to something much more serious in terms of safety. i will not have an estimate for the repair until morning, but i am quite sure i need to pursue this issue with the manufacturer. if there are that many of us having this problem and reporting it, there must be quite a few more people out there who have not gone to the trouble of reporting but have eaten this expense/repair as well.

regarding the current (2013-2014) nissan recall due to airbag defect: we traded in our 2007 altima for a 2014 model. the 2007 model appeared to have the same airbag defect being described in the current recall. during our ownership of the 2007 model, the passenger seat airbag sensor malfunctioned about 80% of the time--it would mistakenly indicate that no one was in the seat whether the adult sitting there was small or heavy. this occurred with an adult sitting in a normal, upright, centered position. the same thing is happening with our new car.

i attempted to pass another vehicle and my car began stalling and i had to emergently pull over on the same side of the road as oncoming traffic.had i been on a bridge or been followed closely by another car it could have caused an accident. i placed in park and attempted to restart the car several times before it started.i called petro nissan and they said it sounded as if the cam or drive sensor was going out. i drove cautiously to the nearest nissan dealer(mossey) in houston. they did diagnostics on it but could not find the cause. when i arrived at the mississippi river bridge in baton rouge i approached at 70mph but on the bridge i could not get the accelorator to respond to keep me above 50 mph. i felt i would have stalled had the bridge been any steeper or longer. it was very scarry but i manged to make it over and exerienced no further problems. i took it to petro the next morning on thursday and it has been there since. they have not been able to diagnose or re produce the symptoms. today, they are consulting nissan factory engineer.

my nissian altima, the dashboard is starting to crack and melt. the local news channel in my area did investigation on this problem. looks like i'm not the only one having this problem. they advise to file a complaint, and the local dealership only solution is to have the whole dashboard replaced.

on january 10, 2014, i went to get an oil change and was told there may be an oil pan leak by the lube center in frederick md. i didn't really think much of it didn't have any other problems. my car now is making a chaining like noise when driving and i went to get an oil change on 6/20/14 at sunoco in frederick , md they say it is a massive oil leak and that my car will catch fire at the engine if it is not fixed, they could not locate the oil leak and it was not from the oil pan but it needs to be fixed right away. i am afraid that the car will explode, i have children and i have one on the way. i see that there was a recall for this problem at one point but it is closed and many people are going through this now with there vehicle. i still have to pay 7,000 on this vehicle before it is paid off. i took it to nissan but they will not fix it because the recall is no longer open.

i was replacing (myself) the broken left rear spring and noticed that sway bar is hanging under the car. it was snapped off on the right side next to the bushung. the snapping surface was already rusty, which told me that it was broken already some time ago. i was very surprised to find that my sway bar is not actually a bar, but a hollow pipe!!! additionally, my left rear spring was broken very strange - about two thirds of a turn was snapped from the top... interesting that i did visit nissan dealership for tire propation - they did not find neither broken spring, nor snapped sway bar!.. instead, they "strongly recommended" the whole bunch of questionable (and expensive) repairs for the upcoming inspection... i have found in the internet, that broken sway bar is a common problem for this type of vehicle (bad design - use of hollow pipe instead of bar). actually, people suggest that it may be the right time for the recall on this particular problem.

ENGINE

i purchased this vehicle used with an (nissan certified) extended warranty with approximately 25,000 miles in 2010. i have had the automatic cvt transmission replaced (under warranty---cvt replaced with new transaxle assembly) on three seperate occassions between 2011 and 2013. in early 2013, ross nissan claimed there was nothing wrong with the transmission and did not replace it, one month later i took it too valley hi nissan in victorville and they told me that it should have been replaced by ross. the problem is as follows: the car when driven over long periods of time in traffic (1 hour or more), the transmission begins to whine,especially when climbing up hills. on over five occassions the car speed topped out at about 45-55 mph on the freeway and could not go faster on steep inclines. i would have to pull the car over to the slow lane as it would not accelerate past the 45-55 mph until the incline in the freeway leveled off. this has happened several times and each time it has happened, the nissan dealer would evaluate it and state that the transmission was faulty. the transmission were replaced approximately around 45k, 77k, 109k, in doing the research the following bulletins seem to match the problem that i've been having ntb-13-079 and ntb-12-057 and the one mentioned by the dealer which i couldnt find on this website tsb-ntb10-143a. they all seem to indicate a problem with the fail safe for the cvt transmission fluid protector. i dont understand why nissan will not replace this issue as it has happened on so many cars. although my warranty had expired, the problem was never solved correctly. i dont take the car on the freeway, because i am in fear that i will be rammed by another vehicle as the car will not accelerate on occasions when the car is running too hot. the car/transmission is defective.

SUSPENSION

the rear suspension bar (wheel to wheel) has broken. why? it is a 5/8 inch pipe. i did not do anything for it to get this way. i just drive . why is it not solid? this should not have happened. nissan should repair at their expense.
