TIRES

recently purchased 2006 nissan altima. immediately noticed loud rattling noise at high speed on freeway, swaying in steering and vibration from front tire(s). took to dealership. they drove it and said could not hear anything. took back a few days later, whereupon they told me they would need vehicle for a whole day and would not fix it right then and there, that i would have to come back. i took to another nissan dealership and explained problem to them. they took off the front air deflector and it fixed loud rattling. however, still having problem with rough ride, noisy tires, and seems like motor drags at take off. i have a daughter and after reading all the complaints here, feel like no one is protecting consumers-at all. i'm worried tires are just like 2005 models. today will be the third time taking it to dealership. i also work for a lawyer and notice aieg has had potential lawsuits for continental tires. *nm

as i was concluding my business day by driving home, my front right tire went flat. car driven to a local tire dealer, he refuses to fix tire and says take it back to dealer because the tire was a factory default. my significant other returned to the dealership with the car on november 2, 2005. service department informed him that the tire damage was my fault, and refused to provide me with a new tire. a few days later, i noticed that my engine cover was hanging. i called my salesman, and he informed me that it probably occurred when the tire went flat. nissan replaced the two screws, and i was on my way. although i had experienced challenging times with the car, nothing prepared me for the horrific experience that occurred on thursday, november 24, 2005. i slowly drove down the grassy incline and proceeded left. i am certain that i was not going faster than five miles per hour because 1) i was on a hill, 2) my mother was in the car, 3) i was turning left, and 4) i was entering a two-lane street. the car was on the street, and i was straightening the car to ensure that we were safely in the right lane to continue down the street. while i was completing these actions, the car suddenly turned left as if it had a life of its own. in order to avoid hitting an suv and a mailbox, i had to steer for my life, my mother¿�s life, and this now maniac car. i ended up going up the embankment, down the embankment, up and down again. finally, i was able to stop the car at my deceased uncle¿�s driveway. amazingly, only my tire and tire axle were destroyed. my mother and i were safe. i am now certain that after two tire incidents, seeing my car swerve on the highway, and listening to it click after possessing it for five days that this car is faulty. *nm

dt*: the contact stated there was a noise coming from the transmission whether the vehicle was being driven or idling. the dealership determined the clutch had burned, the fly wheel had heat damage and the pressure plate was warped. those components were replaced, but this did not repair the problem.

STEERING

i purchased a 2006 nissan altima on december 28, 2005. at 60 - 65 mph i heard a loud and steady humming sound under the hood and a whistling sound through the wheels. on december 30, 2005 at approximately 11:54 am while exiting highway 59 south on the ramp to beltway 8 north in houston, texas the steering wheel failed to perform in the normal way. i had stepped on the brake as i entered the ramp and the car started to make wide swerving arcs from side to side. when i tried to center the steering wheel it would just swerve. thinking i needed to slow down more to get better control of the car, i stepped on the brake again, that time the car started to spin around. it was completely out of control. an oncoming vehicle hit me from behind and that vehicle was hit by another vehicle. miraculously, there were no injuries. however, i was headed into a very busy stretch of beltway 8 and had the failure occurred there, severe injuries and death would have been the outcome. the weather on that day was sunny and in the high 70's. there was nothing on the road to prevent traction. i reported the incident to the dealership, who then told me it had to be handled by nissan. five weeks later nissan sent a representative to check the car out and they reported no manufacturing defects. the car is awaiting parts to repair the body work, but i have serious reservations about a re-occurrence of this problem. i know that it was something that malfunctioned on the car and i feel at the mercy of the manufacturer. they are endangering my life and the life of others. *jb

purchased nissan altima 2006 in sept.05, from day 1 i had problems with it starting. after service had the car for 2 months i invoked the lemon law and received another nissan altima 2006 with the same problem. the dealer doesn't know what to do they said that these are the only 2 new altima 2006 they've had a problem with. then i found out these are the only 2 with factory navigation system. *jb

the heater/air conditioning blower tends to not operate periodically! examples: on a cold morning, the car had to be returned home since there was no blower. on a damp day, the interior windows could not be defogged due to no blower. on a damp morning, the frost on the exterior of the windshield could not be cleared by the defrost setting since the blower failed to operate. we wonder how safe this vehicle would be during a period of freezing rain! or during a snowfall? please advise on what action should be taken to remedy this serious defect. i was in the process of pulling into a driveway and parking my car, when all of a sudden the car accelerated. i had my foot on the brake. the car continued to pick up speed. i hit my friends house. i put the car in park to stop the car. their was damage to my car, my friends garage, the car in the garage, a freezer, and a brick wall. my car took on a life of its own. i felt i had no control over the car. on several occasions, when i would be at a complete stop, and would go to take off, the car would hesitate, then all of a sudden it would take off at approximately 55-65 miles per hour. i thought this was just something the car was set up to do. i feel that's what happen to my car that day. my car was only 5 months old. *nm

i purchased a 2006 2.5 s nissan in good faith. i am now being told that as long as the oil changes are always current i will not have a problem with the car blowing up. i am a 25 years old young woman with a child, and i am not willing to take that risk. of course i will change my oil, but that is not the point. the point is that there is a defect in this car causing it to explode. i tried talking to some one at your car safety commission and was told that until the car blows up, there is nothing that can be done. well i can't come back from the grave and have it fixed. i can't believe that you all are willing to let someone die before reacting on such a serious problem. *jb

risk of engine fire in nissan altimas and the automakers response to possible fires and injuries has been "check oil every 700 miles". this is not acceptable. i have a family and will not risk potential injuries to my kids by exposing them to my new 2006 altima. i have owned it for only two months and the reason i purchased it was as a family car. there should be some action on part of nissan usa. will a death or serious injury be the motivator? *jb

i purchased a 2006 altima 2.5 s in mar 2006, it drives good with less noticeable weave on blacktop highways, however it is unstable driving on interstate even at 60-70 mph, it drifts left and right without moving steering wheel, you have to steady make corrections in steering wheel movement to keep it from unsafely drifting in the other lane. the dealer has rotated tires, balanced. even took a ride with me and said he noticed nothing really. i drove another car at dealership just like it, it does the same thing on interstate, i drive 100 miles daily to and from on interstate so it is not an intermittent problem. this problem could cause serious injury because it is evident the car is unstable for interstate use, almost undriveable if wind blowing slightly. *nm

i bought a 2006 nissan altima on may 22, 2006. yesterday, i received a notice from nissan stating that there is an engine problem relating to oil consumption and engine fires.(i also saw an article in the paper about this problem) i have only 700 miles on the car, i checked the oil as soon as i received the notice and the oil was down by 1/2 quart, which is unheard of for a car with only 700 miles. i called the dealership and was told that nissan is increasing their warranty and to keep my oil levels up. for the amount of money i paid for this car (cash), i should not have to be concerned with an engine catching on fire. i think nissan should buy my car back and sell me a model that is not defective(only had the car 3 weeks). i am still waiting to hear from the dealership on how they will handle this problem. *nm

i purchased a new 2006 nissan altima on may 27, 2006. i choose nissan since i was a current owner and enjoyed the performance and reliability of my vehicle. after taking delivery of the vehicle, i read in the paper on june 2, 2006, that nissan had ordered dealers to discontinue selling certain models of altimas and sentra se-rs for what was described as an oil consumption problem. the altimas affected were vin numbers in the range of 1n4al11d16-c174681 through 1n4al11d16-c231328, which applies to my vehicle. *jb

purchased 2006 nissan altima last day of april. since then the following has occurred....1. five days after the purchased date fuel pump replaced. car was very difficult to start 2. since the dealership was unable to perform any detailing service on the date of purchase it was agreed i could bring it back at a later date. on 20 may during detailing service a 6" strip of paint peeled off the front bumper. bumper was sent to local paint shop in daphne al. for repair...ask the dealership for paperwork on the re-paint, to date have not received paperwork. 3. now the first of two real serious concerns. steering / handling at speeds over 60 mph is unsafe with any measurable wind. the car w/o considerable correction veers from lane to lane. this has been the case from day one....dealership stated tire air pressure was the likely cause....i've tried the recommend 29 psi down to 24 psi. up to 34 psi. did not help. my intent was to pass this car along to my 16 year old daughter but feel it's too unsafe during highway/freeway driving. three days ago i receive the oil consumption letter from nissan. i drive approx. 120 miles per day 5 days a week. to date my car has 2700 miles during the first oil check at approx. 1000 miles i noticed the oil level was approx. one quart low but was not concerned due to not knowing for sure how much oil was present during purchase....added 1 qrt and had not checked the level again until i received the letter...1700 miles total....during this second oil level check the oil level on the dip stick was found just below the add mark. no light indicator had come on the control panel...had i not received the letter it would have been t 2000 more miles before my first scheduled oil change was due and would not have checked it prior to that point....this is a huge safety concern to my family and i. i truly hope the nhtsa and nissan does the right thing before someone pays with their life. *nm

nissan has admitted via a letter that certain vehicles (mine is one) are subject to high oil consumption and the result could be a fire in the vehicle. nissan has attempted to correct this by: changing the oil and filter, promising to monitor the level - subject to another trip to the dealer- at 700 subsequent miles, they will then provide an unknown 'fix' to the issue if the oil level has decreased to their satisfaction, if no noticeable decrease in their perception, then monitor another 700 miles - return to dealer again and have them review, possible fix is to replace the engine at that time. the concern is that when one purchases a new vehicle, if the manufacture knew of the defect and potential hazard, then the sale should not have been allowed. further, a new vehicle now needs to be monitored and returned to the dealer every 700 miles - i can not think of an example of more inconvenience. the safety hazard of a fire or breaking down - all in a vehicle with 1500 miles on it is incredulous. i can not let my family drive in the car and am concerned with my own safety. a 22000 vehicle that is brand new should not be allowed to be sold and have consumers asked to continue to operate the vehicle. i do hope this is investigated. i understand that a total of 80000 altimas were affected. i would like to know when the manufacturer was aware of this problem, why it did not stop sales immediately and why the manufacturer will not just fix the issue. i also understand that the vehicles within the vin range that are on nissan dealer lots are being sent back to have the engines replaced. next, a problem at 1500 miles with the transmission occurred. the vehicle experienced problems in shifting and maintain gear. this resulted in the service engine light illuminating and the dealer 'getting a part' to fix it. i would like to know what the issue is with the transmission that had only 1500 miles on it to malfunction. *nm

i bought a 2006 nissan altima on february 25, 2006. the first oil change i was almost a quart low, the second oil change about the same thing. i received a notice from nissan stating that there is an engine problem relating to oil consumption and engine fires. i also saw an article in autoweek about this problem. they are extending the warranty to 100,000 miles and want me to check my oil every 700 miles. are they kidding, a car that burst into flames if you don�??t check the oil almost every time you fill with gas and all they are willing to do is extend the warranty. i have only 8,000 miles on the car, and feel completely unsafe driving it now. niacin need to correct this problem now if that required changing the engine so be it. this will be the last nissan i purchase ever and i have owned 4 before. *nm

i picked up my new nissan altima on the evening of may 31. i was going to buy a used car but the dealer convinced me that i would never have any problems if i leased it new instead of buying a used vehicle. the next day i find that there is a problem with engine oil consumption and possibly engine fires. the problem is so bad that nissan has stopped selling this vehicle 24 hours after i picked up my vehicle. i questioned the dealer who swears he had no knowledge of any problems. this must be a lie. i was not permitted to return the vehicle. i checked my oil after 580 miles driven and it is already down two quarts. the dealer must have known of reported problems. *nm

i purchased a new nissan altima apr 16 2006. on june 15 i received a letter from nissan nth america saying there was a problem with altimas - they were losing oil too fast. i checked my oil and with 2950 miles it was empty. i towed the car to the dealer, who said the oil was black, the engine was no good, and it needs a new motor. i don't want a new motor, i don't want them to fix the car. i want my money back. the letter stated the problem could cause a fire if unchecked. the dealer has since reported that there was a 3 month period of production of these cars that are affected. now they want me to have them fill up the oil, drive for another 700 miles and retest the car. this is unacceptable. *jb

i was informed that i am currently driving on a recall engine and no one seems to know how the problem will be addressed. i just purchased this 2006 nissan altima not even 2 months ago and already there is a recall on the motor in regards to oil consumption. however nissan wants to ensure that the oil level is being maintained at a correct level in which i was informed that i needed to go to the dealer every 700 miles. why???? do you know how much of an inconvenience that is to individuals. give me a break. this problem has to do with the engine which is being explained that it has to be replaced. when??? how long do we have to put our lives on hold for nissan. this is a multi-million dollar company and they have sold 85,000 defective units. why should i pay a car note on a vehicle that is defective and no action is being taken to correct the problem. i feel more communication is needed asap. please advise. *nm

we purchased a new nissan 2006 altima 2.5 on 05/31/06. two days later, june 2nd, it was on the news that nissan told their dealers to stop selling this car due to engine fires and excessive oil consumption. within a week we received an un-dated letter from nissan telling owners about this problem and to monitor oil level. further word would come in 60 days - two months! i was told that on june 1 they stopped selling the affected vehicles. one day after my purchase! we then contacted nissan with the phone number that was on the letter. we told them we would like to return this car and get something else or our money back. they laughed! the dealer did the same, and gave me a very low trade in price. we feel that we should not have to monitor the oil on a brand new car. we bought this car for its reliability after we had lemon law problems with another vehicle. it looks like we got another lemon! we had this car for less than 2 weeks and under 600 miles and do-not feel safe. they have already made an admission of this problem in their letter about monitoring the oil which could result in engine fires if not properly maintained. as a consumer buying a new car i should not be burdened by this problem between recommended oil changes and be exposed to possible injury or death. this was our first nissan purchase and nissan customer service and the dealership made us feel very poorly about them. i am very dissatisfied with my purchase of this vehicle and have no confidence in it. i do not want my family or myself in an unsafe vehicle and we do not feel safe at all! and i have to wait 60 days for some sort of action! why should we wait for something to happen, an engine fire or anything else before something can be done? to make me a satisfied customer take the vehicle back and replace it or refund me! *jb

this is in regards to the letter that we received from nissan north america inc. after the purchase of our new 2006 nissan altima. my wife and i feel that nissan defrauded us when we made our purchase over memorial day weekend. we feel very strong that fraud occurred being that this information was not disclosed to us upon purchase but was disclosed to us within two weeks after purchasing a nissan product. today we made contact with our sales representative wendy hooten at power nissan tempe and both my wife and i were treated very poorly. all that we are asking for is for a full purchase price refund to put towards another one of nissan's products and we were told very harshly that they would not do that. what was told to us by wendy was that they could only offer us a trade in price on a brand new vehicle with only 755 miles which to date has used 1 quart of oil. further talking with wendy this morning, she divulged that power nissan tempe has pulled all of the nissan altima cars with the 4 cylinder engine. therefore, this action warrants that this is a very serious problem with this make and model of the nissan altima!!! since shopping for a car, we looked at the nissan and toyota products being that our family has been in the automotive repair industry for over 30 years; we felt that we would be getting the best car for our money being that we usually keep our cars for several years but this is not the case!!!!!! at this point we are not comfortable keeping this car and again we are only asking for the full purchase price on a trade in for another nissan product. i doing so we want the refund to be kept separate from the purchase price of a new vehicle. in other words, we do not want power nissan tempe trying to make up the money they feel they have lost with this transaction on the new vehicle that we want to purchase. our hopes are to resolve this issue as soon as possible before we have to consult with a legal representation, our lawyer. *jb

dt*: the contact stated while crusing at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and automatically shut off. the dash lights started to get dim seconds before the incident occurred. the vehicle's steering wheel locked up after the vehicle stalled and rolled to a stop. the automatic transmission was shifted into neutral when parked, although it was only able to be shifted into park after 3 attempts. the vehicle started up normally after the transmission was in park. this incident occurred during the afternoon during damp road conditions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 05/26/06 which determined that the contact was putting bad gas into the vehicle. the same incident occurred on 06/09/06 and 06/17/06 where the vehicle was travelling at 45 mph. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer 3 additional times, but was told that there was no problem with the vehicle.*ak

dt*: the contact stated a noise was heard coming from the engine; there was excessive oil consumption and the transmission slips at various speeds. the noise from the engine was observed before the engine excessive oil consumption was discovered. the dealership was alerted and directed the contact to add oil every 700 miles. the dealer explained something is wrong with the pistons therefore; the engine needs to be replaced. it will take up to two months for the replacement engine to be available. the manufacturer was alerted and explained oil should continue to be added.

car is using too much oil. i understand from articles that i have read on the internet that certain nissan 2006 2.5 engines have this problem and that my vin number falls within the range. nissan has not notified me as their campaign number 06v223000 indicates, and i receive different stories when i call their 800 number for information. it's a failure, potential injury, and potential fire waiting to happen. i should not need to check the oil every couple hundred miles and would like nissan's official recommendation on what i should do, but no one is willing to put anything in writing. when i bring the car in to be checked, they refuse to give me any written indication that i have brought it in to them either. i am currently down a quart of oil with only 1500 miles on the car. *jb

on 5/20/2006, i purchased a 2006 nissan altima. while waiting for the paperwork to be completed, my husband noticed a board on the wall for a contest. our salesperson told us then that nissan was having a dealer contest for altima's. at the same time, nissan was very heavily advertising on tv a "special" lease price for the atlima's. 2 weeks later, before receiving any letter from nissan, a colleague sent me the link for the detroit free press, so that i could read the article about nissan altima's being pulled from the market because of oil problems, which were potentially hazardous. i feel very strongly that i was defrauded by nissan (and perhaps the dealer) by this sale. no one can make me believe that nissan didn't do this contest on purpose in order to move as many cars as possible off the dealer lots. the 200+ incidences of oil problems and the lesser incidences of fires did not all occur within the two weeks between the time i bought my car and sales were halted. i have already had one occurrence where i had to add oil. i then had to wait 4 days for the dealer to be able to look at the car. ironically, when the car was returned the paperwork did not show any record of my adding oil (even though i told 3 separate people at the dealership). it did say that the dealer did not have to add oil. i drive this car every day back and forth to work. to matters worse, i also transport my husband, who is recovering from a 5-organ transplant, to his doctors appointments twice a week, which are over an hour away. should we have a fire, and need to get out of the car quickly, my husband would not be able to do so. this was my first nissan. it is my last. *nm

purchased a 2006 nissan altima in january of 2006. when car had about 2800 miles on it, we were eating dinner at a restaurant across from our local nissan dealership. when we started the engine to leave, it made a horrible clattering noise. my husband checked the oil and it did not register on the dip stick. we immediately drove it across the street and showed it to the sales manager since service dept was closed. we had to leave car there over the weekend. when service dept checked oil, they said it was low and changed the oil, but did not measure how low just said about 1 and 1/2 quarts low. i went to pick the car up and they tried not to provide me with a service ticket saying it was no charge. i told them i was not leaving with out a service ticket saying that my brand new car was so low on oil that it was not even registering on the dip stick!! their answer was we aren't even charging nissan for it - like i care!! anyway i got my ticket. went back a few weeks later and was low again - then they decided to really take this seriously and changed the oil again and said to come back in 500 miles. we did and service manager said it was definitely using oil and he would have to replace the engine. that was about the time the recall came out in the newspaper. we are still waiting on our engine. have been fighting this since about march. my husband was told by service dept that nissan had changed ring manufacturers and had received a faulty batch. i am tired of going to nissan every 700 miles to have my oil checked. that is why i bought a new car!!! we requested a new car, but like all the other people with complaints, they just laughed. i guess it is going to take someone getting killed in a fire for them to get off of the rears and actually do something!! i am tired of hearing we don't know what we are going to do yet!! *jb

nissan altima equipped with the 2.5s engine. purchase date: feb 28, 2006. soon after purchase i made a trip to beaufort, sc. on return home i checked the oil level and found it ((oil) to be black, smelling burnt, and considerably below the add level. at this point, 1676 miles, i changed the oil. checked oil level once more at 3165 miles and found the oil down 1/2 quart. drove the vehicle to the dealer who verified the oil level. i added the oil of my choice. rechecked the oil level again at 3927 and found it to be dirty and down 1/2 quart. changed oil once more. in fairness to the owners, i strongly recommend they be reimbursed the full purchase price plus incidental expenses. *jb

there was a recall sent to me stating that the car has a high oil consumption rate and that there have been complaints of engine fires. however, the car has not been physically recalled. i had been hearing the brakes squeal and scrub after 3 weeks of having the car, have only had 2 months, finally 2 months later it was found that all 4 calipers were leaking. the parts that were needed were on national back order. the parts were shipped in and the brake pads, calipers, and rotors were replaced, according to the dealer. this was a week ago, currently i am having more trouble with the brake area. *jb

i had heard from others that nissan had issued a recall on my vehicle. i called the dealer, gave them my vin, and it was confirmed. i was told to check the oil, add oil if needed, and that my power train warranty had been extended to 100,000 miles. i was also told that nissan would contact me and let me know what they planned to do to fix the problem. today i called to the dealer again to get "100,000" mile warranty extension information sent to me in writing. i was then told it would have to come from the manufacturer. i then called the number i was given and was forwarded around and left on hold. i saw online that customers had been notified of a recall over a month ago. i've never received any notification from nissan. this has been a horrible experience and i would like to know what options i have?? *nm

enroute to tucson az on interstate 10, my vehicle, a 2006 nissan altima se, became uncontrollable. i heard a sound that i thought was a blowout in one of my tires as i attempted to guide the vehicle to the median. upon just barely entering the median, i checked my tires and discovered the problem was not a blowout. i noticed another driver pulled into the median on the opposite side of the road. she was checking her vehicle for damage to the front. i crossed over and she informed me that she observed smoke & fire emitting from my vehicle before undetermined "parts of my vehicle" struck hers. i did smell a strong odor of smoke and a flow of black fluid towards the rear of the vehicle. i called aaa of arizona and was towed to the nissan dealership in tucson. my 2006 nisssan altima has 16800 miles on it and is still under factory warranty. upon arriving at my home at approximately 7:00 pm, i received a call from the nissan dealership advising me that the incident was caused by the auto technician who had performed my previous oil change not reinstalling the oil plug securely after the oil change and they, nissan, had conclusive proof that was the case. i contacted jiffy lube who will be sending a representative to inspect the vehicle to determine the veracity of the nissan claim. subsequently, i learned of recall 06v223000 affecting 2006 nissan altima vehicles.the recall is for excessive engine oil consumption as a result of improper performance of the piston rings. prior to this incident, i had not been contacted by nissan nor was i aware of the recall. as my oil change at jiffy lube occurred in may and i had not noticed any leaking oil, i am skeptical of nissan's efforts to point the blame at jiffy lube when it appears extremely likely my near accident was likely caused by the source of recall 06v223000. i know that only divine providence saved me from being struck by traffic behind me on a road where the speed limit is 75mph. causing improper

i purchased a new 2006 altima 4/17/06. the passenger air bag light illuminates intermittently when my 110 lb daughter is in the passenger seat. we took my car in for a new motor (it's a recalled engine oil problem car) and told the dealer about the problem, they said they tested it and could find no fault. when i picked up my car i showed them what happens when my daughter is in the passenger seat, they said they'd look into it with nissan. 4 weeks later the dealer can only offer 'bring your daughter in to sit in another nissan to see if we can create the same problem'. they will not fix it until i bring myself, my car and my daughter in with the car, even though they identify it is a safety issue. meanwhile, my daughter is not allowed in my car until this issue is resolved fully. *nm

i bought my first 2006 nissan altima 2.5 s in may of 2006. just after a 2 weeks of having this car, i received a letter from nissan motors that your car can use excessive amount of oil and as a result can blow up. and they are telling me to check the oil every 700 miles to make sure it doesn't blow up. after all i didn't spent $20,000 to check oil every 700 miles and hoping it doesn't blow up while i am driving. i have also researched and found that lots of owners have complaint like this. i contacted nissan motors on the 800 number that was on the letter and they notified me that they will notify me with the outcome of this problem within 60 days. i received this letter on june 9, 2006 and today is august 15, 2006. it has been more then 60 days and i still don't have any reply back from nissan motors. i strongly think that as a result of this problem nissan should not only replace the engine or fix whatever the problem is. but, they should give 100% refund including the fees like destination charge of $605. this is not a small problem, no one should spend $20,000 and still have to hope if they won't blow up with car while driving. *nm

vehicle is part of the nissan campaign #06v223000. checked engine oil and was found to be two quarts low. this is an ongoing problem and we are needing to check the engine oil once a week to verify it is ok and take it to dealer to have it filled. in this case, after adding two quarts of oil, the dealer forgot to put the cap back on and after a day of driving (120 miles), all the oil was gone and the engine was dry. luckily we noticed it and drove another vehicle to nissan to get oil and fill it up before driving it. *jb

power train clutch assembly/ pedal/ linkage i recently bought a brand new 2006 nissan altima ser in 6 speed manual transmission. after owning the car for only 3 months, i lost total acceleration response. driving the car from a dead stop to 60 mph took nearly a mile, i was so afraid the car wouldn't make it over a bridge. driving the car to the dealer service department was a nightmare, i was so scared while accelerated that anyone doing the speed limit would crash into the back of my car. the dealer took 2-3 days just to inform me my clutch went bad. they said i needed to replace the clutch for $1000 and the flywheel for $500 both not under warranty. mind you the $30,000.00 dollar car is only 3-4 months old with a 10 year/100k warranty. i have heard many other people with the same preambles, i feel nissan needs to order a recall on nissan clutches. *jb

purchased a 2006 nissan altima on 04/04/06 with 267 miles on the car. we noticed a rattling noise from the engine, we took the car in to dealer at 2700 miles (05/22/06) & told them of the problem, while we were there we had them go ahead & change the oil. they changed the oil first, then they could not hear the noise (duh !) the service tech told me they could not find anything wrong, that only the hood bracket was slightly loose. i explained that the bracket was loose because i had looked under the hood trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. i insisted that there was some sort of problem. they said if you hear it again bring it back and we can drive the vehicle together. 3-4 weeks later we started hearing the noise again, & received the letter in the mail from nissan. we took the car back in at 5993 & we were told we were indeed part of the recall and to bring the car back every 700 miles (are they serious ?) i placed several phone calls to consumer affairs & spoke to leslie the gatekeeper. she would not provide any answers either. as of late, we are in the same boat everyone else is in. can not get any clear answers. there are options people.....do not let this multi-billion dollar company fool you... there are lemon laws to protect your interests. ******************************************************** do not settle for an engine replacement below are some options for getting nissan to replace your car entirely or re-purchase the vehicle ********************* contact all of the following agencies and file complaints, we have. better business bureau @ 800-955-5100 (they have a website too) texas dept of transportation (contact your specific state) consumer affairs (national), states attorney general, all of these services provide arbitration for you either at no charges are for a nominal fee. they will negotiate a re-purchase or replacement for you. *jb

2006 2.5 altima special edition has squeaking brakes 2 months after purchased. car had 4,000 miles and brakes are squeaking. nissan has not repaired or replaced the high oil consumption engine recall since receiving recall notification in june 2006. nissan has even taken the recall off the website however has acknowledged it because there are cars on the lot with replaced engines. there is a problem with the oil consumption and it needs to be repaired immediately. engine oil is very essential to the car and should not be viewed as a minor recall. i was told the piston rings are defected and should have the engine replaced. have yet to have nissan honor this request. *nm

i purchased a brand new 2006 altima june 2006, i loved my car from the day it was purchased, until recently when my brakes started to make that annoying squeaking noise i thought too myself, wow how can this be, my car is only five months old. i thought to myself it must be the way i am stepping on the brake, but to my surprise the next afternoon i received in the mail recall information, i read it over and was disgusted, i just purchased the vehicle and i am being told my engine may need to be replaced and high oil consumption will occur and possibly a fire!! i was very upset i was to contact the dealer but this all occurred during the thanksgiving holiday, so i drove my sister honda suv for the holiday, my car sat without being driven for about four days. i was absolutely sick when my father asked to use my car when he attempted to start my car it would not start he tried several times before it finally started and when it did he placed the car in drive the car took off at a fast speed with him barely touching the gas pedal, an accident could have occured, all the lights lit up and smoke began to seep out of the back of vehicle. i immedialey called my service dapartment and they said its normal, i dont think so, maybe if my car was a 1996 instead of a 2006 he told me to bring it in and he will inspect everything including, the recalled parts. i am truly upset and disgusted with nissan they sold me a piece of crap, they knew about the recall and did not inform me when i purchased the vehicle, who wants a new vehicle and have something replaced within a few months of purchasing a new car not me!! i could have purchased a used car. there is no repair that can be done to satisfy me i would like a replacement vehicle with no prior incidents or my money back. *jb

dt*: the contact stated when driving 40 mph, the steering wheel pulled to the right. when taken to the service dealer, the tires were rotated and balanced. also, the front end was aligned. the steering problem continued, but pulled to the left and was more difficult to control. the vehicle was then taken to the sales dealer. all tires were replaced and balanced, and the alignment was inspected. the sales dealer informed the contact the problem had to do with the wrong sized tires that were mounted on the vehicle, although the tires were mounted on the vehicle by the sales dealer, when the contact purchased the vehicle. the problem continued to pull to the right. when the vehicle was driven at 60 mph, the steering wheel locked up, then by giggling the steering wheel to the left and right, the steering unlocked and pulled to the right. the vehicle was taken back to the service dealer and the manufacturer was notified.*ak updated 02/12/07. *jb

brand new 2006 altima 2.5s devlivered to me with a bad fuel pump. service engine light was on. but went off after i fill up. then came back on with the fuel light showing. had to take it back with just 85 miles on it. had to go back down to dealer. service tech said i couldnt get a loaner car it wasnt covered under the warrenty. i lived 45 miles away, they wouldnt take me home. finally went to the salesman and he gladly gave me another car to drive until it was fixed 3 days later. *nm

i was recently contacted via phone that my nissan altima may be part of a national recall from nissan motors usa. [how come i did not receive any mail notification?] i brought my car in november/ 2006. thus, i called and brought my car to the nearest nissan dealer [wondries nissan]. the service manager assured me that the service department would run a series of test and it shouldn't take longer than a day to finish. as a result i brought my car in on a monday morning, and guess what? it's still there. it's been three days. end of the first day, he told me it's a huge recall and a lot of test needs to be run. [he couldn't told me that during the time i brought it in so nissan can give me rental car for my trouble.] since the timing was bad, i couldn't get a rental car. at the end of the second day, the service manager said the testing was done successfully, but when they tried to reprogram the ecm it is not working. [again, it's toward the end of the day, i could not make it in time to get a rental car] now, it's the 3rd day, and they said they will call me back to give me an update as soon as they find out what is the status of my vehicle. who knows what they will tell me next. i am concern for myself and other consumers who had brought their car in for the recall engine inspection. i am pretty sure they promise every 2006 nissan owner that it would take a day to accomplish the test, but it's been 3 long inconvenient days for me as a nissan owner. wondries nissan is not too attentive to my concerns and my daily work schedule. i hope someone from nhtsa can look into this matter and check why it would take them more than 2 days to perform tests on their [claimed] national recall. i appreciate the work nhtsa is doing for automobile owners nationwide. sincerely, leslie yang. *nm

my nissan altima se 2006 has an issue with the gas cap is so tight that it is impossible to take it off without hurting yourself. most of the time i need to get the gas station attendant to remove it and he also has a hard time. on sunday i tried to get some gas and the gas cap wouldn't come off at all. monday the nissan dealership tells me that because of the plastic and spring design they have a tendency of braking and yet they replaced with the same type of gas cap. today i tried to refuel and again i couldn't get the gas cap off and had to go back in to a different nissan dealer. why not just change the design so that it doesn't brake? *nm

i purchased a 2006 altima nissan 2.5 special edition in feb 2006. within a 6 months time frame i have had 2 engine replacements. this still hasn't corrected the oil consumption problem nor the clicking sound. i have also been informed that the clicking and grinding sound may be attributed to bad tires. so i took it to another company that deals in tires and was informed my tires were in great condition. then on jan 22 i was told i needed a new steering wheel to help with the sound and vibrations. my nissan sounds and rides like a truck. nissan needs to just live up to the fact that some of the 2006 models were just not built correctly and compensate the consumers that are feeling the affects of buying a lemon.. why would they put their reputation in jeopardy. do they not realize this could turn into a class action law suit. several of my friends have had their cars bought back under the lemon law but i'm getting the run around from one of the nissan reps. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that after replacing 2 engines in a 6 month period to know my car is a lemon.. nissan has lost my respect due to the non caring nature they have represented. *jb

problem with engine consuming too much oil. when vehicle was taken in for oil changes was informed by technician that oil consumption was normal. received letter from nissan usa motors stating there was a recall due to engine consuming too much oil and were currently looking at a solution to the problem. to ensure no further damage to engine owner was required maintain suggested oil levels. the car started making noise coming from the engine was told it was nothing to worry about. last letter received by nissan usa motor stated to take vehicle in to nearest dealership for a test that would determine if only ecm would need to be reset or maybe a possible engine replacement. *jb

purchased new 2006 nissan altima in january 2007. took car back within 2 weeks to dealership due to steering , pulling to the left, always correcting the steering & swaying felt in the rear during highways speeds of 100 km. dealership check & completed front wheel alignment road tested & said car was fine. took car back within 3 days for the same problem, the tech went for a road test with me and said there was nothing wrong with steering, that it was normal. steering continues to pull , this seems to be problem that mostly likey we be identified once a accident happens.

purchased our 2006 nissan altima in jan of 2006. after a few months of using this car we noticed the trunk did not operate properly. when the car is on a flat surface as it was when we purchased it the trunk lid will stay open, if the car is situated on any kind of incline the trunk will slam shut. my children were injured several times as was i when the trunk slammed down on our heads. the reason is visual, the trunk was poorly designed, there is no tension at all. the trunk actually swings like a pendulum . i took it into the shop four times over this past year. today, 3/22/2007 the nissan dealership finally did the needed repairs. they agree the design is poor. everyone who has a 2006 nissan altima without the back spoiler should be notified of this defect.

i bought my nissan altima 2.4s special edition package in december 2006. i was going back from my office to home for lunch and just near my office when i was in the right lane of the "corporate drive" to take a right turn on to "tennyson pkwy", the car suddenly went on the right curb and it was really difficult to control. the car moved so quickly from the right curb to left curb (corporate drive was a two lane street dead end to tennyson), i believe that something must be wrong with the rear suspension to go out of control. this 2006 nissan altima car needs to be checked for safety, it lead to los of control. i have registered the complaint with nissan as well for my car they told me the car is not in recall list at "that" time for the nhtsa# 06v-046. how many cars they are waiting to cause similar incidents before they issue recall ? *jb

recommended fix for the 2006 nissam altima potential engine fire is to update the electronic contol module which will ensure the engine will go into limp mode in the event the oil levle drops to an unacceptable level. if the car goes in limp mode the engine rpms will not exceed 1800 rpms, this restriction will prevent the car from traveling more than 25 mph. if the vehicle goes into limp mode while traveling on a highway, the driver and passengers are put into a dangerous situation. why is it acceptable for a car manufacturer to propose and institure a fix to a vehicle that compromises personal safety, and what recourse does the consumer have related to the proposed corrective action?*ak

i am making this complaint with a safety concern in my 2006 nissan altima. i purchased the car from santa monica nissan on 07/29/06. since then the car has already been to the dealer several times with identical problems. the car hesitates at times while driving on local roads, freeways and hilly roads, and skids while taking turns. i am very scared to drive this car because of the slowed down motion during heavy traffic hours. it is a big safety issue to be driving a car that hesitates when you're trying to catch up to the speed of traffic & skids, making a loud screechy sound when trying to turn. i have complained to the manufacturer several times, but each time they send me back saying that there's nothing wrong with the car. they are neglecting the problem instead of resolving it. no reasonable conclusion has been reached as yet. i am looking for nissan to buy the car back before there are any injuries to myself or others. nissan has failed to resolve my issues. i definitely am staying away from nissan!!!

altima 2006 w/ 3.5l engine/ auto trans. car was making a loud roar type noise heard at idle from inside the car for about a week and an appointment was made at the dealer to get it checked out. the night before it went in for service, the car got stuck in 5th gear while sitting at a light and stalled. car was restarted and proceeded to stay in 5th gear. the problem went away overnight and was ok driving to the service center. we picked up the car and it was "fixed". we were told it was a bad fuel pulsar thing. the noise went away, however the stalling and gear sticking did not. the car went back in and this time they told us it was a bad camshaft positioning sensor. i explained to the service mgr that the camshaft has nothing to do with the transmission. he insisted this was the problem and the car was "fixed" once again. guess what, the car stalled and stuck in 5th gear that evening. back to the shop !!... this time on a tow truck. i told them to keep the car as long as needed until it is fixed. they tell us that the car is "fixed" once again. this time they say the entire computer is no good and needs to be replaced. i'll pick up the car on monday. lets see if it is "fixed" now. i guess i should be happy to not be stuck with a 2.5l oil burner- fire trap.

driving down the interstate at 70mph, the passenger air bag on/off light keeps indicating that the airbag is off, while a adult passenger of sufficient weight is sitting up right, with feet flat on the floor and back against the back of the seat is in the chair. they have replaced the seat bottom once before and that did not correct the problem. there is no straight answer to how much a person has to weigh, but all three of the answers have been under the weight of the occupant. nissan now says to get into another 2006 altima, but there is none available at the nissan dealership which the car is at right now. cannot drive car for fear that the air bag will not deploy if in a frontal accident.

on 10/22/06 i purchased a 2006 nissan altima in va. it has a remanufactored engine and only had 35 miles. i had the oil changed at 3,400 miles and moved back to ga. i received a recall notice pb023 qr25 alt-ser my06 ntb06-082 in may 2007. i took it to the nearest nissan dealership and everything checked out and they changed the oil (odo 7,473). i had the oil changed on 9/1/2007 (odo 11,885). on 10/20/07, driving on an interstate suddenly there was smoke coming from everywhere and the engine died. thought it was going to go up in flames. it smell as if the engine was burning. (odo 13,791). it was towed to the nearest nissan dealership. they said the it threw a rod and there is a hole the size of a fist in the engine. the engine will be replaced. this will be the second engine in this veh. i would like a new vehicle replacement or be refunded in full. i have no confidence in the vehicle and fear it will catch fire. i am scared to drive it! i was assured when purchased that the engine problems have been resolved and were no longer an issue and the dealership would stand behind the engine 100%.

i was pulling into a parking space in front of the building where i work. i had my foot on the brake and the car accelerated and went over the curb, it accelerated a second time and sped between two trees, then between a tree and building and ended up facing the opposite direction of the parking spot on the sidewalk in front of the building. the car basically did a full "u" from the parking spot to the sidewalk. my feeling is that i had the wheel turned to the right to park in the parking spot and did not have time to straighten the steering wheel so the car continued to go to the right, hence the "u". the driver side air bags went off. i had on several occasions experienced the car hesitating when i would accelerate after stopping at a stop sign or light. the car would hesitate and then resume at a normal speed. once the car resumed speed, the car seemed fine.

i bought a 2006 nissan altima in november of 2005. i have now had this vehicle for 2 years. i just came across 2 recalls online by accident. i was never notified of these recalls and they both appear to be very serious. 1- (#06v223000) from june 2006 involving "engine and engine cooling" that lists excessive oil consumption and possibly engine fire and 2- (06v0046000) from feb. 2006 involving rear suspension and possibly a cracked bracket. i have had to add plenty of oil since buying this car, but cannot believe i was never notified about a serious and potentially dangerous safety hazard as this, not to mention the damage it must have already caused to the engine!! what do i do now and what can be done to this obvious terrible shady dealership and unforgivable manufacturer??

on 11/27/2007, i came home to find both of the front windows of my 2006 nissan altima down. the mystery to me is how my windows got rolled down. the alarm on my car was on, the steering column was locked and my lock bar was still on the steering column. luckily nothing was stolen and my neighbors had taped plastic on my windows to avoid damage if it had rained. pictures were taken and the police were called. of course, the mystery still remains as to how the windows were rolled down. no one has a key to my car and each morning/evening, i ensure that the alarm is on. if this is some sort of defect, i would like to know. is it a way for someone to roll down my electric windows without turning the ignition? is there a way for someone's remote control to operate the windows of my vehicle? my remote control does not control the windows. i will be discussing this incident further with the dealer when i take my vehicle in for it's first oil change (since purchased dec. 2006 - but has less than 3500 miles).

i had a 2003 nissan altima that stalled on i95 (3) times before it was correctly diagnosed as a crank sensor issue and became a major recall for nissan. in july 2006 i leased another nissan altima after the engine was completed damaged on my 2003 altima due to another recall regarding oil consumption issues. i inquired a few months ago at a routine service visit if my current 2006 nissan was part of the "crank sensor" recall that was recently issued and told it was. i had never received any notification in the mail from either nissan or the dealer, this recall i was told was corrected during my visit. on saturday march 29,2008 i was driving on i95 in the third lane at approx 65-70 mph and the car stalled without any warning. i was able to coast across 3 lanes and get half in the breakdown lane at which time i departed the car got to a safe area out of harm's way of traffic and contacted the state troopers for assistance. they came and stayed with me until the tow truck arrived and towed me to the car dealership. i was given a rental car since the car was not able to start again without stalling was contacted on monday march 31, 2008 by the dealer to let me know the car started normally they had drove it for several miles and no problem. the comment made was they will drive again on tuesday and if no issues they can't explain what happened. since i already had a similar experience with my 2003 altima and same car dealer i'm confident this problem will reoccur again and this time once again endanger my life and others on the road with me at the time of the incident. please assist me in getting their attention for myself and others regarding this life threatening issue. i'm sure i'm not the only vehicle with this problem, since my 2003 issue turned into a major recall for approx 650,000 vehicles.

engine shut off going between 60-70 mph while attempting to pass 18 wheeler on 3 lane interstate 35. had headlight replaced 4 days before incident and was advised about a recall, choose to have the recall work done at that time also. service advisor claimed that the recall had nothing to do with the malfunction, said they had trouble getting the car started and noted something about the rpm's, said they test drove the car and it hasn't stalled. said they know it has a problem but they haven't been able to replicate it. today is 04-30-08, the car has been at the dealership since 04-19-08. service advisor stopped calling on 04-24-07. have complained to nissan consumer affairs who finally returned my call today stating that they talked to the dealership 3 times total and they claim that nothing is wrong with the car, that they test drove it 90 miles and cleared something from the air intake. the dealership never told me this story and stopped calling me on 04-24-07. when i asked the consumer affairs lady if she would load up her kids in the car and go down the interstate during heavy traffic? she hesitated and said yes she would.

subject crank position sensor. subject car 2006 nissan altima 2.5. recall was received about the same time the car started dying while driving. when traveling at low speeds the engine will die causing a very dangerous situation when the car looses power and power steering stalling in the middle of the road. when traveling at freeway speeds the engine shuts off, the car looses power for approximately 3 seconds then violently jerks regaining power. nissan dealer has stated that this is an ecm problem and that a reprogram will fix this problem. i took the car into the dealer and the reprogram of the ecm was completed. now the car dies more frequently and now it takes considerable cranking to start the car when warm. approximately 2 min. to restart. nissan has tried to "band aid" a faulty crank position sensor with an ecm reprogram that is not working. the car abruptly dying is a very dangerous situation and can easily lead to uncalled for injuries and deaths stemming from this faulty sensor. i agree that the upgraded ecm program should read both the cam position sensor and crank position sensor in tandem as a redundant feature but if the problem is with a leaky sensor or a bad solder joint in the sensor, the sensor should be replaced under a recall.

my 2006 nissan altima (6,500 miles) was purchased new from the dealer. during the past mont i have been experiencing a problem with my clutch pedal going all the way to the floor when pressed and not returning. i checked on line and identified that apparently with the 6 cyl. engine and standard transmission this is a common problem with the break down of the dot 3 brake fluid that is used in the clutch master cylinder. many sites recommend the higher boiling temperature of the dot 4 or 5.1. the dealership insists that dot 3 is sufficient however in talking to other altima owners on line it is a recurring problem.

recall id# 6827 on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. if the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash. dealers will reprogram the ecm free of charge. certain my 2006 altimas which have been previously remedied under recall campaign 06v223 (nissan r0606) are not included in this recall since the reprogramming for 06v223 also included this reprogramming. the recall began on december 31, 2007. had ecm reprogrammed and my crankshaft position sensor is still overheating. nissan should replace the sensor if the reprogramming does not work.

vehicle failed to start on several occasions. the first time at 28,214 miles. had vehicle towed to dealer after hours. vehicle started for them next day. dealer suggested it was a sensor acting up but no code was recorded. when it happened the second and third times, i was able to trick it into started by removing several fuses and clearing the engine of excess fuel. car would start. i read about this trick on the internet. finally the check engine light came on and the vehicle began to run rough and was even harder to start. took vehicle in at 59,038 to have crank position sensor replaced.

i have a 2006 nissan altima se-r with a 6 cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. periodically throughout the last 30 months the clutch would fall to the floor while driving, making it difficult to shift. the solution was to catch the clutch with the driver's toe and raise it manually back into position each time prior to a shift. this is difficult, distracting, and dangerous and could easily cause an accident. i reported it to my dealership but they were unable to duplicate it and therefore did not fix the problem. this month, at 38,000 miles, the clutch has fallen to the floor and has remained stuck there, rendering the vehicle completely undriveable. the dealer now recommends replacing the master and slave clutch cylinders, however they intend to charge $709.97 for it. this is obviously a defective part since it has had problems from 6,000 miles on and is reported by many other nissan owners as well on internet forums. example: http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/2005-2006-nissan-altima-se-r-discussion/273277-slave-clutch-cylinder-recall.html i reported the problem to nissan, however they have "decided" not to assist me with this repair. the nissan file number is 6393944. it is my hope that someone will take an interest in this issue before this incident causes a fatal wreck.

my daughter has a 2006 nissan altima and while driving 3 days ago the car stalled at an intersection while she was about to turn left. she was then stuck in the middle of the road. i arrived and we got the car out of the street. took it to courtesy nissan in tampa and was told the problem was the cam and crank sensors. after researching the problem on the internet i found this problem was common and that nissan has known about it for awhile. there is a recall on the ecm but nissan told me it didn't cover the sensors. my daughter's car only has 42k miles and it couldn't be from extended wear and tear as suggested...ie other cars with the same complaint had many more miles listed. i am having the sensors replaced but i think it is unfair to consumers that nissan is selling these cars with this defective problem and are not taking responsibility for the repair. my daughter could have been t-boned sitting in the middle of the road like that.

on saturday, 2/14/09 my car all of a sudden shut down while driving. i took it into the dealer on monday, 2/16/09, and was advised that there was a recall order to reprogram the ecm reprogrammed. later that afternoon i was advised that 2 sensors, the crankshaft & cam sensors were defective and needed to be replaced before the dealer could perform the reprogramming of the ecm; the cost would be $394.00. today, 2/17/09, while surfing the internet, i came across a website that posts nissan recall information. i found that nov 21, 2007 a mass recall was performed for over 653,000 vehicles, for 2002 & 2005-2006 altima/sentra models, with 2.5l engines, for defective crankshaft sensor, which causes the engine to shut off. then on nov 8, 2007, campaign #07v527000 was inacted; summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor" consequence: the vehicle can stop and cause a crash; my concern is: my vehicle is listed under this recall, but not the crankshaft sensor recall. do these two not go together? is it not considered a domino effect? how can the ecm be reprogrammed if the sensor is defective? how is it that vehicles are determined to be included in a recall? how can my vehicle be included in the recall for the crankshaft sensor? any help will be greatly appreciated.

2006 2.5 l altima stalling. diagnosis is crankshaft position sensor issue and needs to be replaced and ecm reprogrammed. there is a recall for this issue. however, my vin is not on the list of recalls. diagnosis was performed by tischer nissan in laurel md. i am told that this is not covered by standard vehicle warranty, drivetrain warranty, or by recall. since this is exactly the same issue that other 2006 nissan altima's are experiencing. this is a safety issue and could have caused an accident if i had been in traffic when my vehicle stalled.

our 2006 nissan altima 2.5l's engine stopped running while being driven on july 6. 2009. after the incident, i researched recall information regarding the 2006 nissan altima, and discovered a recall requiring the electronic control module to be reprogrammed. however, when i took it into tim dahle's nissan in sandy, utah where we purchased the car, they told us the crankshaft sensor needed to be replaced. therefore, nissan's recall is not fixing the problem by simply reprogramming the ecm. instead, the root of the problem is the crankshaft sensor, and the consumer is required to spend $200 to get this repair done. the recall specifies the problem, but does not take financial responsibility for this defective part.

today while driving, my daughter stopped at a stop sign, and when she proceeded to turn right, her steering wheel locked up and she also lost the use of the brakes at the same time. what is happening???? luckily she was not hit by another car, but had she been on the interstate in the rain (or even fair weather), she may have been killed or maimed for life. this has never happened before, to me or anyone i know. i am very concerned about her safety. the vehicle is a 2006 nissan altima. please tell me how i should proceed, the car was taken to a shop and nothing is showing up on computer diagnostics. she will begin her first semester of college in a month, and will be commuting over 30 miles each way, 3 times per week, over bodies of water (namely, lake pontchartrain). please i am very worried what may happen if it happens again when she is on the interstate!!! i checked nissan's recall database, and it mentions the engine going dead for no reason, but my daughter said the engine did not go off, the steering locked as if the car were in park.

2006 nissan altima; engine style is the 2.5l apparently there was a recall on this car; all dealing with the crankshaft position sensor; i was unaware of this; and now am stuck with footing the bill of a diagnostic and then the labor and parts fee. nissan the dealership is not helping me at all and making me pay for this; not only that; but they are completely ignoring the issue at hand and not taking care of me; although i have purchased 2 vehicles from this particular location. i find it hard to believe that first i wasn't notified of the recall that happened in 2006 and second that i now have to pay for the mistake that they clearly made while others did not.

vehicle stalling while in motion usually while slowing to stop or when accelerating after being stopped. ses light came on today when it stalled and i took it straight to dealership. they stated it was crank and cam sensors. they replaced them and charged me $260. had to have engine replaced at 19,xxx miles under a recall. car has 58,7xx miles now and this time i had to pay. go online and find in excess of 160 consumer reports of this very cam and crank problem and everyone having to pay out of pocket for it when it is clearly a defect especially being that my engine was replaced so the defect is not just in the original engines. service dept. made no mention of there being a recall to me but being that i never got the recall notice when i had to have the engine replaced at 19,xxx (and i bought my car new and remained at same residence) i decided to just check online to see if others were having cam and crank problems. comes a no surprise to see that others are having the same issues. i am mute therefore can't call you guys so i am filing my complaint online. please note that i entered phone numbers only because i could not advance without doing so. please send any and all replies via e-mail if speaking to someone who can represent me is an issue.

on my 2006 nissan altima with 2.5 liter engine, it would stop running at highway speeds from 70mph down to 5mph (in rush hour stop/go traffic). it also would intermittently fail to start properly by cranking for up to 45 seconds before start. this occurred over a period of 3 months and became worse quickly, with "service engine soon" on, so i took it to the dealership (grubbs nissan, bedford, tx) where they diagnosed it as a faulty crankshaft position sensor (cps) so they replaced it for $204.34 total. this cps is an ongoing problem that nissan says my vehicle is not part of the recall # 07v527000; there are over 650k vehicles that are potentially affected and i know my issue is directly related to the problems with this vehicle. new sensor is in; old part is not available.

my brakes have a high pitched screech only when in reverse. this has been happening for over a year. i had it in to the glendale nissan dealer 3 times and they said there was nothing they could do. they said it was a defect in the type of brake it is. am i suppose to live with it for the life of the car. this sound is very abnormal. when i am backing up people just look at the car as to say, "get your brakes fixed". i have never heard of a car doing this let alone having to deal with this terrible screeching noise.

i have a 2006 altima se-6 with a 6-speed manual transmission. during hot weather of after the vehicle is driven for extended times, the clutch will make a howling sound accompanied with a shuttering when released to pull off from a full stop. this event will also cause the vehicle to stall unless excessive revolutions (over 3000 rpm) are applied during release. in traffic or on a hill, this has caused the vehicle to roll backwards. took car to a couple of dealerships; all of whom claim inability to reproduce the issue. this has been happening since october 2007. this issue only appears when the drive train is warmed up; however, it pretty much occurs each and every time when the temperature conditions are met. *cn

i am filing this complaint to document a service engine soon light coupled with a rapid change in rpm and resulting engine stall. while no crash occurred, with the loss of power steering in the parking lot the vehicle almost impacted another coming in the opposite direction. a diagnostic check was run on the vehicle and showed a crankshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. this vehicle was part of recall campaign 06v223000 and had the engine replaced under warranty at approximately 58,000 miles. under recall campaign 07v527000 which describes similar symptoms regarding the crankshaft position sensor, those vehicles fixed due to recall campaign 06v223000 are not eligible. however, it is possible that additional contributing factors may lead to the sensor malfunction. the vehicle is scheduled for maintenance to replace the sensor; however, at a cost of $370.

my brand new 2006 nissan altima 2.5s consumes oil little by little. first noticed around 35,000 miles until present. i add oil after 1,500 miles around 100-150ml. i do my oil changes 100-200miles before it's due of 3,000 miles from the very beginning, took a good care of the car and now i'm getting this kind of trouble. i've no doubt i got a defective unit.

the back seat floor board (right side) fills up with water every time it rains. i asked the nissan dealer where i bought it from about it and they told me it would cost me $80 for them to look at it and $200-$400 to fix it if they could even find out where the water was coming from. the problem is mold is building up under the mats and my 1yr old son and myself are breathing in this mold on a daily basis. it seems as though once a dealer gets your money they dont care about the car once you drive it off the lot. i do have an extended warrenty which when i bought the car they assurred me it was bumper to bumper with the exception of lights wipers & tires. now they do not want to honor that good ole "bumper to bumper" extended warrenty that i just had to buy to protect myself against any problems (so they promised me).

vehicle in question: 2006 nissan altima, currently nissan?s original 60 month unlimited mile rust warranty. 72,296 miles. driver and passenger floor board area are rusting through. (around the foot well area.) i believe this to be a known-defect and known issue with this vehicle and nissan is not correcting this issue. i known other nissan altima owners who have had the same problem and there are numerous cases of this problem documented on reputable web sites. this is a safety issue. the driver?s and passenger?s feet can push through the floor and are not adequately protected due to the weakened, rusted metal should a accident occur. april 15, 2010 spoke with roland kostiew (rockinham nissan service manager) via telephone and he stated: that he has seen this rust-through problem before?and nissan doesn't do anything about it. he will fight for me because i am a local customer. nissan attributes the problem to the floorboard area being used as a jack-mount point. he took pictures showing this was not the case and he agreed that would be a ridiculous point to use to lift the vehicle. april 16, 2010 was informed by roland kostiew (rockinham nissan service manager) via telephone that nissan will not cover the underbody rust through and that it is not covered because of environmental causes with no further explanation.

don't know of any events but i have a 2006 nissan altima se-r 6-spd and the clutch pedal has this problem where it sinks to the floor and i have no play what so ever to switch gears or even get out of neutral. i have been on many forums where this seems to be a major problem with alot of 6 spd transmissions for the altimas. i have had the car since jan 2007 and have had this problem a few times. once, the car just didn't start at all cause i had to pressure in the clutch and had to be towed and the nissan dealership in austin replaced both the slave and master cylinder and said that would fix it but i still get the same problem. my father and a couple of my friends who drove the car have has the same problem. just want to have the car fixed so i don't have to worry about this anymore and want to know what to do next.

i have a 2006 nissan altima that had been working fine up until yesterday. when i was driving to work yesterday, my car just stalled at a stoplight and then it was incredibly difficult to get it restarted. thereafter, my car would stall at every stoplight and stop sign. the drivers that were behind me were clearly upset and frustrated and one driver almost rear ended me. i took my car to autozone so they could hook it up to their analysis computer and they stated that it was my crank shaft sensor. i am requesting that you look into this matter because a car that just stalls for no other reason than a faulty sensor is unacceptable. in addition, i did a web search and found that may people are having a problem with the same sensor.

i purchased my 2006 nissan altima se-r around 4/18/2008 with around 34,000 miles. a few days later, i noticed the clutch pedal was sticking down to the floor and wouldn't come back up. before i could take it to the dealer, the car clutch gave up on me and had to get it tow to the dealer. dealer then replace the clutch ($1000) after a few days, the clutch pedal was still sticking to the floor, so i took it back to the dealer. dealer had the car for a few hours and then called me to say it was done (fix) after that, the car was fine for a while. a month ago, around 5/15/2010, clutch pedal started to stick to the floor again and wouldn't come up. i called a mechanic and he explained to me over the phone that most likely it's the master cylinder or slave that went out and needs replacement. per this link ---> http://www.nissanforums.com/altima-se-r/112659-clutch-master-cylinder-trouble.html too many people are having the same issue and the nissan dealers are pretty much saying that there's nothing it can be done, and on my opinion, this is a safety issue that needs to be fix. nissan (mechanics) should know their cars and be able to have good judgment and say if something needs attention instead of telling us (customers) everything is fine, when is not.

the passenger air bag warning light keeps flashing indicating the air bag may not be working right. i took my car to the dealership and paid $115 to have a diagnostic test done to find out the problem. dealership said the sensor in the passenger seat is bad and needs to be replaced. dealership noted on my receipt (recommended service: passenger side occupant sensor $1,617.26 otd). i declined to replace sensor due to the outrageous cost for a failed safety feature in a vehicle that is only 4 years old.

i have been have trouble with my 2006 altima se-r since buying it at 52k miles. it's like everyone else; the clutch gets real floppy and looses pressure until it sinks to the floor and wont return. this has happened to me about 30 or 40 times since buying the car in october 2009, but i can't replicate for the dealer. they also say that they have never heard of this before, and nobody has ever complained about it to them - apparently they are lying. this afternoon, i was driving my son home from daycare, and the clutch did this very thing, but for the first time, i could not get the car out of gear and i was in bumper to bumper traffic. i almost hit the guy in front of me. when i finally yanked it out of gear, i couldn't put it back into gear because the clutch was stuck to the floor. i sat on the side of the road for an hour with my 14 month old son in 99 degree heat waiting for the clutch to "repair itself". this is bogus and nissan needs to own up to their responsibility of fixing these cars before someone dies.

i have a 2006 nissan altima, on 6/9/2010 the oil light came on and the service engine light came on. when i got home i checked my oil and there was no oil in my engine. i contacted nissan dealership to tell them of the issue and contacted consumer affairs about it. i was told to bring the vehicle to the dealership to get check out. i purchase 2 quarts of oil on 6/9/2010 in which i still have the receipt for. i put 2 quarts of oil in my vehicle and took it to the dealership on 6/15/2010. i was told that they are running a oil consumption test on it because some of the 2006 nissan altimas had a recall for a oil consumption problem due to faulty piston rings which i believe caused my vehicle to have a bad cat converter. i contacted the consumer affairs department to find out if my vehicle was in the recall and i was told no. i truly believe my vehicle is one of the recall vehicle because when i took the vehicle back on 7/7/2010 i was told that it needed a new engine and measured under 20 for the oil consumption test. i would like a investigation to be conducted because nissan has mislead alot of consumers about their vehicles being in the recall but later after about 80,000 miles after the manufacturer warranty expires then the vehicle starts experience these oil consumption problems, service engine light problems. i was told on 7/7/2010 by the service manager that he will put a claim through to the extended service agreement department to provide me with the necessary repairs which is to give my vehicle a new engine due to the oil consumption problem and i was told that this supposed to be covered under my extended service agreement warranty free of charge. i am awaiting a decision. this is definitely a safety issue because my vehicle could stop in the middle of rush hour traffic and i can be killed instantly along with my family and others. all 2006 nissan altima's need to be recalled to be tested for this oil consumption problem due to faulty piston rings.

i purchased a 2006 nissan altima (brand new) 2 months after i purchased it, a recall required a "new" engine be installed. since then it has been in and out of the shop for recalls. my problem now is the check engine light is on, and my car shut off on me in the middle of the road. i popped into auto zone to check it out and it is the crankshaft sensor. there is a recall for this on the 2006 altima's but mine is not included. so i am supposed to pay 397.00 to have this fixed! i don't think so. i feel i was sold a lemon. and i should not have to pay for this repair!! i can not drive my car because it shuts of or almost shuts off at different speeds ranging from 45 to 60. nissan should recall all 2006 nissan altima's for this problem!

app sensor failure. my car is 2006 nissan altima 2.5sl with 48k miles. i just got the engine oil and serpentine changed thursday morning. then friday afternoon i was on freeway and suddenly the gas pedal (acceleration pedal) was locked and could not be pressed down. the car could not keep up the speed. the light "engine service soon� was also on. fortunately i was close to the exit and left freeway with emergency light. then i went to autozone for error code reading. the error code is app sensor. this is dangerous on freeway since you cannot keep up the speed and could be hit be the rear vehicles.

we bought our 06 nissan altima in 08 and had some trouble soon after with the car not starting on the first or second try. we contacted the dealer ship and they said that the steering wheel was locking and we should forcibly turn the wheel to turn on the car. still had problems so we took our car to a local repair shop and they told us it was the battery. the new battery helped with the starting issue for a couple of months. then we notice that the engine oil levels would be low after only 1,000 miles. we took the car to our local repair shop and they said just keep adding oil. then a week ago we took the car in to get the oil changed and they said we had no oil in the engine at all. we took the car to the dealership and they said that the piston rings were shot and our oil was mixing with the coolant. we called nissan to see if they could help us with the cost of a replacement engine that the dealership said we would need very soon. nissan said they would call us back in a couple of days with their answer. they called us back within 25 minutes to tell us they would not help us even though this is a known problem with 06 nissan altimas.

i purchased my nissan altima se-r in june of 2007. during that summer the clutch would stick on few occasions and i wouldn't be able to change gears. on one occasion i had to pull off the freeway and pump the clutch petal multiple times until it became free and i was able to change gears successfully. i took the vehicle to the nissan dealership to which they told me to bring it in when the problem was actually occurring, which was virtually impossible since it was sporadic. i have noticed that during winter on occasion the clutch and brakes would need to be pumped before driving otherwise the clutch would stick and the brakes just wouldn't work. this morning i got in my nissan which had been parking in the garage all night, and the clutch petal was sunk to the floor. i was able to turn the car on, but couldn't switch gears. i tried pulling up on the clutch petal with my foot and nothing. it took multiple times of trying to pick it up with my foot and trying to un-stick it by pressing down hard on it before it finally came up and i was able to put it in reverse to drive.

i noticed that my 2006 nissan altima has a design defect. when you start up the engine the speedometer cluster lights up automatically, even if the driving lights are turned off. at night time, this can lead the driver to believe that his driving lights are on as well, since most other cars require for the lights to be turned on, in order to turn on the illumination on the speedometer cluster. i have seen other nissan altimas driven at night (including a 2010 nissan altima hybrid), which led me to believe that this is common design flaw for these cars.

i have had my engine replaced as a recall but windsor nissan has no record when i asked for the report. i went in to the dealer on 12/16/10 at 5:30 pm because i was having problems as the gear shift was getting stuck in park and couldn't move at all. i read the book which says to push the shift lock release button which will let me move the gear shift temporarily. i then contacted the dealer who in turn told me to bring the car in to check it out. they wanted to charge me $110 just to see it until i disputed that. afterwards, he told me that the shift lock control unit needs to be replaced, he couldn't explain to me why the car just up and started to act up or what leads to that. i have an older model nissan altima and it runs better than the 2006. i have had more problems with the new car than i had with the old one. i have also had to replace the back brake lights 6 times within the year because it continues to blow out as well as the over head light on the inside of the car. the only thing that confuses me is the gear shift, now i'm subject to pay $300 for this part being replaced because it isn't covered in the warranty and no one could tell me exactly what causes this problem. i need to know what is causing the problem and what can be done to keep this from happening in the future. i have contacted other mechanics who seem to feel that this shouldn't have happened especially because the car is only 4 1/2 years old.

while driving on interstate 580 in emeryville california in evening rush hour traffic my car began to jerk rapidly and then stopped while in traffic, the service engine light came on, after 5 attempts the car started. this happened numerous times while traveling to work on highway 50 and also while driving on surface streets. this makes me nervous and fearful when driving this vehicle and finally after the stopping multiple times on the interstate and at red lights, i took the car in for a diagnostic test and was advised my crankshaft sensor needed to be replaced and there was a recall per nissan america for this known issue. i took the car in and was advised my vin# was part of the recall but the damaged crankshaft sensor would not be replaced, only a reset of the ecm. i was advised that the ecm would not be reset due to the service engine light is on due to the faulty crankshaft sensor. i was also charged for a diagnostic test which basically confirmed the problem that service department was already aware of per the vin#. there are thousands of complaints regarding the 2006 nissan altima and a the faulty crankshaft sensor which can cause the vehicle to stop. i am scared to drive on the interstate due to fear that the car will stop and cause a pileup and or even death. i have contacted nissan america @1 800 647 7261 and they are not cooperative. they are aware of this issue however will not replace the defective crankshaft sensor. since this is a known issue then i strongly feel that nissan should take responsibility and replace the defective part. customers should not fear for their lives when driving and should not have to pay to repair a known defect. i am considering taking legal action against nissan since they failed to take responsibility and resolve my issue.

i purchased a new 2006 nissan altima on 12-22-05. on 1- 8-11 i noticed a 6 to 8 inch rust hole completely through the floorboard of the driver's side floor just forward of the driver's seat. the dealership and nissan america has refused to fix the problem stating that the warranty had run out on the vehicle by 2 weeks. my contention is that problem is material or workmanship defect and that the problem has been ongoing and only discovered at this time. i am certain that this damage will compromise this vehicles performance in a crash, potentially allow exhaust fumes to enter the occupant cabin and be generally a safety hazard for the driver who rests his or her feet directly on this area. i have read internet report that describe females high heels getting caught in the rusted floor while driving.

for no apparent reason the clutch pedal will lose all resistance and lay on the floor leaving the vehicle inoperable and stranded on the side of the road. this issue has happened multiple times, as early as 44k miles and as recent as last thursday, march 24, 2011 with 68k miles. pumping the clutch pedal for an extended period of time did restore enough hydraulic pressure to operate the clutch and within 2 miles of "in town" driving the clutch problem completely resolved as if it never happened. there are multiple complaints of this issue on the forums. fort pierce nissan official answer was " nothing". they wouldn't acknowledge it. i'm sure with all the complaints from altima se-r owners nissan is fully aware of the issue, yet they won't step up to the plate and make it right for their customers. i've been a loyal nissan customer since 1988 but without proper resolution, this will end that streak.

since october 2010, i have had to get oil changes at least 1000 miles sooner (lately it's been more) than the 3000 mile mark. the mechanics have not found an external leak, and i have been told by two mechanics that my engine has to be consuming the oil since it is not leaking. i called nissan (and a few dealers), and they all said that my vin did not qualify for a recall. my car has the same issue as the others that were recalled, so is nissan required to check it or fix it?

beginning 2009 at roughly 40,000 mi the car began to rattle while accelerating, i took the car to the dealership and they determined that the catalytic converter had failed and it's mount to the engine had broken, it was replaced. then at 81,300 mi i was driving 30mph when my engine light came one, i made an appointment and took the car to the dealership the next morning. i was told again the catalytic converter had gone and in turn taken out the ego sensor as well.

on several occasions my car as suddenly cutoff, while driving!!!! luckily, nobody was ever physically hurt. mentally and emotionally it scared the crap out of several people, including myself. while on the expressway i've started to notice my car automatically slowing down after a certain speed, without me even touching the brakes. for awhile i stopped getting on the expressway, in fear of my car completely stopping with cars driving behind me at a faster pace. also, at 55 + miles/hr my tires start to wobble and there's a scrubbing noise with the wobble sometimes. it feels like my back tires are about to fall off. i've bought 3 sets of tires already, and tomorrow will be my 4th set. this is ridiculous and very unsafe!!!!! please help me, thanks.

there was a recall id#06v223000 for 2006 nissan altima for oil consumption. my car is experiencing the same problem as the above mentioned recall id. describes. according to nissan consumer affairs, "that all recalls and service campaign info is vehicle indentification number specific, depending on the mfg date and the plant where the vehicle was assembled. therefore not all models are subject to the same recalls" their saying my car dose not fall under that recall.

clutch pedal sinks to the floor board of my nissan altima 3.5 se, the clutch fluid is at full capacity and when the car is in motion at a red light or even at a still motion the clutch goes completely down or out...i have had my fluids checked and it is full....this as been happening since i have owned the car at 52,000 miles and continues to have this problem to this very day.....nissian 3.5 cars are notorious for this problem, but nissan fails to recognize this as a recall problem....but everyone is having this problem 3.5 - 5 (speeds) with this car and this model.....this is a serious safety issue especially when i am in slowed traffic and cannot shift properly...this issue needs to seriously be addressed and the problem resolved....fatalities should not be their reason to enforce this issue.

nissan altima 2006 manual transmission: clutch losses pressure. i have taken car in to nissan for issue. vehicle bought in aug 2006. approximately 2 years later issue began. clutch drops down while car in motion. manually move clutch back up with foot. when first taken into nissan (windward nissan, honolulu hi) was told that there was nothing wrong. clutch continued with issue very intermittenly. upon arrival to san diego ca, i decided to take to mossy nissan (national city). i was told that i needed a new clutch. i was reffered to nissan 1 for assistance. nissan covered the replacement of the clutch. it has then been about a year and a half and issue persists. now clutch drops and i have to pull over, wait a few minutes and see if clutch comes back up. cannot put vehicle in gear while clutch is down. i googled "clutch issues with nissan vehicles" and there was a link to your website.

2006 nissan altima caught on fire, june 8, 2011. my son was driving from work to home on the highway and orange sparks was coming from underneath the car, so he pulled over on the median. when he proceeded to lift up the hood of the car, black smoke and flames were coming from the hood and he and other drivers called 911. according to the fire department, oil and other fluids were coming from the car down the highway on fire. my son is ok, but i can not get any help with this car. i have a burned car sitting in my driveway and can not drive it everything underneath the hood is melted. i still owe on this car. need help! i only had the car for 8 months. *kb

this 2006 nisaan altima is experiencing the exact same malfunctions as in previous recalls. the crank sensor is causing the car to abruptly stop running if driven at low speed. incident almost occurred on pa turnpike during am rush hour traffic and finally stopped at a traffic light in a residential area in mid-day. i had to put caution lights on immediately and hope that i didn't cause an accident. please re investigate this matter. it is such a major concern and needs immediate attention once again i see. thanks so much!

since 1st occurrence date listed herein through present 11/15/2011, vehicle continues to randomly fail to start & stalls at freeway & surface street speeds and when idling at a stop; i have used an autel maxiscan ms300 can obd-ii scan tool everytime the vehicle has presented these symptoms. each time the scan has confirmed a "crank shaft position sensor" failure and sometimes includes an "engine speed sensor" failure; i phoned nissan u.s.a operations and was told by their representative that my vehicle was not included in a recall for these problems; this is obviously a scam by nissan to not include my vin based upon the number of complaints for the exact same issues and the vin's not being included; i plan to sue nissan for the repairs in small claims court in california if it is not rectified.

i have a 2006 nissan altima, that is constantly 5-7 mph off. i am getting concerned because this is a hazard as i have been asked by the local city police for me to pick up my speed a little as i am restraining the flow of traffic by driving at or below what i believe is the speed limit. also, i am really concerned since the factory tells you to use a certain size of tire, with me using their recommendation, this will cause the wheels to spin faster than what i am actually really going, thus saying i am traveling farther (mileage) than what i truly am. this, i believe is effecting my gas mileage as my tires are having to spin faster than what is needed and thus causing me to use more fuel. please help me consider my options or do you know if there is a recall on the speed sensor, drive/powertrain, wheels, etc. someone who drives 10 mph on the interstate is a hazard, i believe. i am having all kinds of vehicles and semi-trucks pass me on the interstate and i feel the safety of my family is at risk in driving this vehicle. the first incident happened on 11/28/11 as i was driving on interstate 93, new hampshire. the car suddenly cut out on power and jerked then the service engine light came on. i scheduled an appointment at belknap tire in laconia, nh and they reset the code for the crank positioning sensor, replaced the air filter and performed routine service on my car. on 12/3/11 i was driving again on interstate 93 and the car again cut out on power, jerked and the service engine light again came on. the code was checked and it is again the crank positioning sensor. i then went on the nissan website and there was a campaign for this exact same issue - campaign #07v527000. i was finally able to talk with [xxx], a nissan service phone rep, who advised that my car vin was not affected by this campaign. i inquired why it wasn't as it is the same exact problem as the recall and he said that it does not effect all nissans. this is an unsafe driving issue for me and obviously there has been this same problem with the nissan altimas yet my 2006 is not considered one of them. nissan will not cover this and said i could apply for financial assistance but there is not any recall relief to get this corrected. i feel that this is a safety problem and there is a history of this issue with nissan vehicles. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

approximately 1 1/2 years ago, i started hearing a clicking noise coming out of my 3.5l engine. i took the car to a dealer and he said i needed a new engine ($6000). i drove the car for another 3k miles and the noise continued and became louder. it sounds like an [xxx]movie projector. i took the car to another nissan dealer who told me the primary timing chain guide was causing the noise. i suspect that nissan knows of this defect in the timing chain which causes the timing chain guide to become damaged. i have also read it happens between 20k to 80k miles. anyway, if the timing chain jumps it cause serious internal engine damage. i have talked with nissan consumers affair group with no results. i think this should be investigate and nissan owners warned of this engine defect. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

experienced a violent shake 03/25/2012 while driving. had it checked by a dealer 03/27/2012. multi-point inspection, power steering system flush, auto transmission fluid service, and premium fuel service completed 03/27/2012. the engine died while driving on 4/11/2012. on 4/12/2012, dealer says loss of compression, and suggested an engine rebuild.

while driving at 55 mph in highway, there was a brief speed interruption without warning. then service engine soon light was on. i took the vehicle to the local mechanic for a diagnostic test. the test results showed a failure with the crank shaft sensor. the mechanic replaced the crank shaft sensor but the repair did not remedy the issue. it happens only on highway speed.

clutch falls to the floor, leaving you with the inability to disengage the transmission from the engine, causing you to fly to the shoulder as fast as possible, stepping on the brakes hard enough to shut off the engine. there are thousands of nissan forums describing this problem. the car has 80,000 miles on it now, and it happened again tonight, causing my wife to run the car off of the road when she began to panic because she couldn't stop the car at a busy intersection. the clutch will resume normal function in a matter of minutes, and wont have a problem for months. very, very dangerous!

front passenger floorboard rusted through, with a hole approximately 4"x8" in size. i bought the car when it was a year old and it has been meticulously maintained and still looks new inside and out. it is undercoated, and has no other corresponding corrosion. the rust is not coming from underneath, nor from a leak in the interior (the carpets are dry), but from between the two sheet metal parts that make up the floor. as a mechanic, i know there is no form of maintenance that could have prevented this rust from occurring. as a safety issue, my state will fail this car for inspection because exhaust fumes can enter the interior of the car without the occupants knowledge, and the floor could continue rusting, compromising the integrity of the front passenger seat mountings. *js

the vehicle was purchased new in 2006. two weeks later the car would not crank and the engine had to be replaced. shortly after, i noticed that the heating system did not work in the vehicle. when i placed my foot on the brake, the heat blew out cold air. i knew there was something wrong, therefore i called the dealership to report this problem and was told "that is the way new models are made". this problem was not fixed. in the winter when the car is not moving (such as at a red light) cold air blows in the car, not heat. i have experienced rattling noises with my car. it can be heard when the car is driven as if something is loose. i took the car to the dealership in 2011 to have it checked. i got the car fixed by an independent mechanic and the noise continued. each year i have gotten my rotors and brake pads replaced in the front and rear. i do not think this is normal. i have had my car 5.5 years with 79k miles. problems have occurred with the electrical part of the car. the lights have become deemed when i drove on 2 occasions, the passenger door will not lock, the seat does not adjust all the way down, and sometimes when i press the alarm button on my key, my windows have went down automatically. *js
