TIRES

bridgestone potenza tires p225/50wr17(front) and p235/50wr17 (rear)on 2005 nissan z350 touring edition: do we have to have people killed before this is looked into! car has just 1,600 miles, yes not even 2,000, one month old. these tires will not drive safely on this car. snowed here in washington dc area on 19jan05...wife could not move the car from a red light without rear end fish-tailing at 3 mph. could not move...help had to hand push her to side of a road. i made it to her after 3 hours. police wanted to give me a ticket for not having all weather tires, m/s on the car, for holding up traffic because the car would not move. i had no idea the tires were not m/s. i got in car and it would not move, even when removing the traction button. skidding/fish tailing will get you killed; these tires will not make it in snowy parts of the us. why have they not tested these tires on snow cover roads. my wife is scared to death to drive the car now. i'm stuck with a car that is not even safe. i will let many know not to buy this car with this tire. nowever, there is a z350, 2003 model on the lot of the dealer with michelin m/s all weather on it. not on these bridgestone potenzas!!! why did nissan change from michelin to the bridgestone. the dealer will tell me to go to a tire company, the tire company already is telling me to go back to the dealer. please nhtsa, stop this from getting people potentially injured or killed. lj. *ak

we purchased our 2005 nissan 350z on 4/15/05. when we purchased the vehicle we were told how reliable the z was, and how they never have any problems. we found that statement to be untrue. on 5/16/05 with 612 miles on the vehicle i made my first visit to service. this i was not happy about. the vehicle needed a new steering angle sensor assembly, and mass air flow meter. ok i figured lets get it done and over with and move on. on 7/1/05 i make my second visit to the service department. this time the matter is more serious. i have noticed my oil pressure gauge was dropping down to zero. i checked the engine oil on the dipstick and noticed it was empty. i was concerned because the car is not supposed to have an oil change for at least 3months or 3000 miles (dealer states 3750 miles). i was not at either. i take the vehicle into the dealership with my complaint and also tell them about the vehicles bad idle. they look into it and change the oil. the vehicle was about a quart low. i expressed my concern with this because the vehicle has so little miles. the dealer stated that in order for them to determine that vehicle is consuming oil they would need to perform another 2 oil changes and document the amount of oil lost. i also had a concern with this. the vehicle during its first two months of ownership was used as a daily driver.

i purchased a 2005 350z in nov 2004 - where do i start. to date i've had the car in for service on 7 occasions ranging from minor annoyances of the gauges coming on saying i had low tire pressure when i didn't, the utility plugs not working where i was told even though my phone charger works on every other car known to man it must be bad there couldn't be a problem with the car's plugs, having the transmission replaced, the front caliper replaced and the crank sensor replaced twice. each time i've taken the car in for repairs the 1st responses are "we cannot duplicate the problem". i was told that 3 times before they replaced the transmission (at only 7,000 miles i might add). strange how it can go to "nothing wrong" to "we have to replace the transmission". in addition, when i picked up the car after the 2nd crank sensor replacement the porter shifted the car and to my joy the service advisor heard the clunk i had been telling them about they said "they couldn't duplicate". the service advisor then drove the car, then sat in the drive at a stop shifting from 1st to 2nd and each time hearing the loud clunking noise. he agreed the transmission is still not correct so i was to bring it back the next week, which i did. this time they brought in the "master tech" who said he couldn't duplicate the problem. this says to me that even though a nissan service advisor has admitted he's heard and experienced the problem, which i've stated is not every time i drive the car, the master tech can pop in and say "nope, no problem here" and nissan feels no obligation to did deeper into the problem. are they saying their service advisors are morons and don't know what they're talking about. that's odd, my service advisor use to be a tech. **see additional info about the replacement of the crank sensors.***jb

the 2nd time the crank sensor went out i was traveling down the freeway at about 75-mph when the car just died - i mean no power and no warning. i had to make my way across all lanes to the right shoulder with only a prayer! *jb i've contacted nissan direct on several occasions where i've been advised ridiculous things from the "specialist" like they put my car on the scope and there was no reading of a bad part (see other complaint about the transmission replacement) - question is how do you scope a shifting problem with a manual transmission??? and "why was i so upset when the crank sensor was only a cosmetic thing" - a what?? if you call having your car shut down driving down the freeway a "cosmetic thing" i think the so-called "specialists" are a farce and stall tactic, nothing else. after the 2nd time the crank sensor went out i was told by nissan (not the dealership but nissan corp) that the "master tech drove the car at 80 mph and couldn't get the crank sensor to go out again" - that's funny, the 1st time it went out i was in a parking lot doing about 15 mph so why have they acted as if the situation only happens at a certain mph??? makes you wonder if they know a lot more than they're saying! there was a recall for the crank sensors for the 2003 & 2004 cars, which they say my vin number does not meet the criteria. well what does then?? i understand on an overall basis from the reports i've read the 350z is a good car - what i'm the most disappointed with is nissan's extremely poor customer service attitude and lack of acceptance when there are legitimate problems. at this point i will never purchase another nissan product - they are not the only game in town. i pay a healthy price for the privilege of driving a new sports car - i expect to get what i pay for even if nissan has to bite the big one on this particular vehicle. *jb

this has happened three times now. i have been driving my 350 down the highway at about 65 mph and it just stops running i can push the pedal down and nothing happens. i had it towed into the dealership the first time and they said it was the cam shaft sensor. no big deal right? well about 2000 miles later it happened again same exact thing. on my way to work in rush hour traffic the car just stopped again, and i was almost rear ended. after sitting in the fast lane for about 3 minutes the car finally started again and i got out of the way and they towed my car to the dealership again. the call came that for the second time the cam shaft sensor was bad, it was replaced again. the last time this happened i was on my way home and the car started doing the same thing. this time i smelled smoke like something was on fire. the car was towed and the call came the next day saying the cam shaft sensor went out again and that this caused the catalytic converter to brake and the beads were sucked up into the engine which caused the engine to catch on fire. *jb

engine quite on highway, causing loss of power steering and power brakes, nearly causing a crash on a dangerous mountain road (highway 17 in california). the check engine light came on and stayed on. the dealer, santa cruz nissan dodge (state reg. # aj-35673-n) traced the problem to a faulty crank position sensor which was replaced on 4/3/06 (repair order no. 157547). a problem with failed crankshaft position sensors caused a recall for 2003 350z with vin's in the range jn1az*4**3t 000001-100167. the engine problem recurred two days later on 4/5/06 at an odometer mileage of 8,513, again causing the loss of power steering and power breaks, again nearly leading to a crash on a freeway. this time the problem was described as engine code po420, po430 -low catalyst efficiency. the dealer replaced the catalytic converter (repair order no. 157686). since then i have had four additional engine failures during freeway driving with similar symptoms but the check engine light did not stay on and there was no code indicating a failure when i took the car into the dealer at 12,679 miles on 11/22/06. the dealer did not service the car at this time (repair order no. 165910). *jb

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

i own a 2005 nissan 350z anniversary edition. it is burning oil at the rate of about 1 quart per thousand miles. nissan internally is aware of the problem, but won't fix my car. i have been following their protocol and having an oil consumption test conducted, however, the last time i took the car to the dealership, classic nissan in orlando, florida, to continue the test, they sabotaged the results and lied about the findings. since the previous oil change, i have driven 2,440 miles. the car was virtually out of oil - i base this on checking the dipstick after the car had been sitting for over 10 hours, and oil hardly registering. prior to taking the car to the dealership, i added 1 quart of oil so the engine wouldn't seize. the dealership said they drained the oil and took over 5 quarts of oil out of the car. draining the oil is not part of nissan's protocol for an oil consumption test. the dealership acknowledged verbally that the engine is bad. everytime i take the car in, they write on my receipt that the car is operating within accepted standards. i have requested the test be started again. i told the dealership that from now on, they will conduct the test in my presence to i can verify the results and when the dipstick shows virtually no oil, they will drain what is left in my presence. there are many postings on the internet about this problem. nissan hasn't issued a tsb, but are aware of the problem. the problem exists on the altima and sentra. the altima's were recalled, according to the tech at the dealership.

i have a 2005 nissan 350z but the incident was not with my car but a my friend's car. he has the same year model nissan 350z as mine he's airbag light came on after a 1 year of owning he's car. he took it to the dealer and was told that he's airbag module had gone bad. now he made a choice not to have it replace because the part was $750 dollar. he drove the car like this for about a 6 months was hit by another car and he's air bag's did not deploy because of the module issue and was seriously hurt. now about 3 days ago my airbag light came on in my car. i just took my car to the dealer today and was told that the airbag module is the issue and will need to be replaced, again the cost to replace is $750 dollars. this is obviously a problem with the part that nissan is using on there vehicle's. i fear that if i don't have this part replaced and have a accident the same thing that happen to my friend will happen to me. i have done research on this issue and found that nissan has issued a recall on newer model 350z, 2007 model has the same issue and nissan know this so they have recalled the module. this is a issue on 2005 model too. nissan should do something about it.this is the recall number for 2007:nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000 and the airbag module part number is 28556cd00.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

i have a 2005 nissan 350z, the struts holding the heavy rear hatch have failed to keep the hatch open gradually deteriorating and had hit both my wife and i in the head very badly causing bloody gashes in our heads. i contacted nissan and they first said they would repair it free, then changed their mind. it started as an intermittent problem that lead up to a total failure. when i brought the car to nissan, i showed the service advisor my bloody gash and the reason plus the loose mechanism for manual release. he sent the car to the shop, a tech there said that there was no problem with the struts holding the hatchback and the loose assembly would be a few hundred dollars to tighten. this is in spite of the hatch not opening because the struts do not have enough power to pull up the trunk (hatch) and the entire manual mechanism is loose which is above the rear plate mount and light. i have spoke to other 350z owners as well as the parts stores and nissan parts department. i asked about the failure rate, the response was "inevitable, including the window motors." the problem began at 34,500 miles while under warranty and progressed. this gradual degradation fooled me into believing the nissan dealer. i now know that if nissan fixed my struts free and admitted the problem, they would have to recall all of them, costing nissan millions. i finally brought the car back in jan. of 2010 when the car was again brought to nissan and i was using a vise-grip to hold the hatch open.

approximately 3/1/08, my 2005 350z airbag sensor light started flashing. i took it to the dealer on 3/8/10 where i purchased it. tech verified failure code b1129 rh side module. replaced with yhehm-cd000 module assy-side. light was cleared. then approximately 10/1/10, again that sensor light started to flash. i took it into the same dealership where i purchased my new car on 10/6/10 (7 months later). tech diagnosed failure code b1134 lh side air bag module failure. replaced with yheha-cd000. light was cleared. on nov 20, 2010, i hydroplaned in the rain, hit a guard rail head on, did a 1080 (360 degrees x 3) then hit a tree on the right side. my airbags did not deploy and after the point of impact, that same sensor light started to flash on the dash. i filed a complaint with nissan consumer affairs (1800 nissan1) option 7 then option 3. they had a technician/engineer come out to perform an inspection, after about 4 weeks waiting for a response from them (i called numerous times asking about an update) i received a phone call from my [xxx]stating that the technician found everything in working order. i think that the tech should have found an error code because of the flashing sensor light. there should be a recall on this vehicle. i was wearing my seatbelt and i had only minor injuries but still this should be considered a lemon because its safety related and was "fixed" twice and still did not function when i really needed it to. i did not have my cell until my wife drove out to my location then i recorded the dash with the sensor light flashing. bystandards called police but only paramedics came out, when called dispatch, they said that they were unable to locate me so therefore no police report was taken. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

i have a 2005 350z roadster, aprox mid summer my airbag light came on and stayed on. i put the car in storage for winter when i took it out this spring i brought it to the dealer and asked them to check the light. the dealer confirmed the airbag lite was code b1129, and told me i would have to have the airbag replaced. the air bag just "went bad". i don't feel this is a maintenance issue, i could not have done anything to prevent this from happening and don't feel i should be responsible for this repair. this is a safety issue and i believe nissan should replace the air bag if infact this is the prob, since getting my car from the dealer the airbag lite hasn't come back on yet. is this really an airbag gone bad or a dealership trying to boost their sales?

my 2005 350z has been having oil consumption issues. this all started after several thousand miles after i had the original engine replaced for the same issue. while driving, after only 3000 miles after a oil change the engine began to knock very loudly. the noise so bad i had to pull over and stop the car and have it towed to my mechanic. not a nissan dealer. es technical sports looked into it and notified me that there was no oil in the engine. they place two quarts of oil into the engine and i was able to drive over to gardena nissan in southern ca. from that day i have been dealing with them on this issue. this started in 2010 and i have been doing oil consumption tests since. the variation of the amount of oil used is normal to the point that the engine needs to use the nissan synthetic oil to the point of i have to use tradition motor oil. all the same the car would not last over 3000 mile without the engine knocking because of the lack of oil. the synthetic oil change i was told that i needed to return the car at 7,500 miles for the next oil change. well i was back at 3,500 without any oil in the engine. the last set of consumption test reveled that after 1000 miles the oils was down 19 mm. the next consumption test after 1000 miles showed the oil was down 29mm. the engine after another 35,000 miles is consuming so much oil that i can not drive it. this is exactly what happened in the first 36,000 miles before i had to have nissan replace the engine. now i have been waiting for 3 weeks without a car for nissan to inform gardena nissan on what to do with my car. i can't sit and sit with a engine that will blow up if i drive it. i have been searching on the web and this is a issue with the nissan vehicles. the infinity g35 has the same oil consumption issue.

this is a follow-up to my initial complaint (confirmation # 10516123) referring to my passenger side air bag which was found to have failed the diagnostic check on 6/6/13. since my initial complaint, nissan corporation in tennessee had requested me to have a second diagnostic check done at a nissan dealership to verify or dispute the findings at the infinity dealership where i had purchased the 350z. as stated in my initial complaint, the drivers side air bag light was on just prior to my purchasing this vehicle and the bag was replaced (no charge) before i drove it off the lot. an appointment for 6/19/13 at 1:00 p.m. was schedule with nissan of cherry hill (nj) and i arrived several minutes early since i was not familiar with their location or procedures. after waiting for 45 minutes i observed that my vehicle was still in the same slot i had parked in ( i attributed this to lunch hour) but went over to the service desk and inquired about the delay and was advised that the first available technician would do the check and it should not take more than 20 minutes. in discussing this matter with the service manage, [xxx] i advised him of the circumstance behind this appointment and my contact with nissan in tennessee. as i told him about the problem he stopped me when i pointed out that the icon light was out upon my getting the car back from the first dealership, he then told me that the diagnostic would not be accurate without the light on since it would not show the code or proper history of the problem. i'm quoting him here "on the scale of 10, your chances of this check being right, is a 4". i then told him that i could not in good faith do a check knowing that it was only 40% chance of getting it right. i called nissan twice while there, but no response. 6/20/13 a voicemail from a [xxx], i called but got her voicemail. this is where it stands. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
