IT REALLY COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND I WAS TRAVELING 55-60 MPH. *TR [CMPL_TYPE] => IVOQ [POLICE_RPT_YN] => N [PURCH_DT] => [ORIG_OWNER_YN] => N [ANTI_BRAKES_YN] => N [CRUISE_CONT_YN] => N [NUM_CYLS] => [DRIVE_TRAIN] => [FUEL_SYS] => [FUEL_TYPE] => [TRANS_TYPE] => [VEH_SPEED] => 35 [DOT] => [TIRE_SIZE] => [LOC_OF_TIRE] => [TIRE_FAIL_TYPE] => [ORIG_EQUIP_YN] => [MANUF_DT] => [SEAT_TYPE] => [RESTRAINT_TYPE] => [DEALER_NAME] => [DEALER_TEL] => [DEALER_CITY] => [DEALER_STATE] => [DEALER_ZIP] => [PROD_TYPE] => V [REPAIRED_YN] => [NICAR_FAILDATE] => 0000-00-00 [NICAR_DATEA] => [NICAR_LDATE] => [NICAR_PURCH_DT] => [NICAR_MANUF_DT] => [nicarid] => 0 ) [25] => Array ( [CMPLID] => 914945 [ODINO] => 10454453 [MFR_NAME] => FORD MOTOR COMPANY [MAKETXT] => MERCURY [MODELTXT] => MOUNTAINEER [YEARTXT] => 2007 [CRASH] => N [FAILDATE] => 20090302 [FIRE] => N [INJURED] => 0 [DEATHS] => 0 [COMPDESC] => ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING [CITY] => JONESBORO [STATE] => GA [VIN] => 4M2EU47E17U [DATEA] => 20120408 [LDATE] => 20120408 [MILES] => 67000 [OCCURENCES] => 1 [CDESCR] => MY TRANSMISSION JERKS AS I ACCELERATE DURING TRAVEL. I HIT A SLIGHT BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE DOME LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE SEAT MOVED BACKWARDS, AS IF I HAD JUST REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I THANKFULLY THOUGHT QUICKLY AND PUSHED ON THE KEY, WHICH MADE THE SEAT MOVE BACK INTO POSITION. IT WAS JUST A MIRACLE THAT THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT TO DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY DID. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS INCIDENT, AS MY FEET WERE TOO FAR FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND I COULD HARDLY REACH IT. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP IF I NEEDED TO STOP QUICKLY. THAT WAS THE FIRST OF MANY OCCURRENCES. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME TURNING CORNERS, DRIVING ON BUMPY ROADS, HAVING TO BRAKE SUDDENLY (I JUST BARELY MISSED HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME), AND EVEN PULLING IN AND OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. *TR [CMPL_TYPE] => IVOQ [POLICE_RPT_YN] => N [PURCH_DT] => [ORIG_OWNER_YN] => N [ANTI_BRAKES_YN] => N [CRUISE_CONT_YN] => N [NUM_CYLS] => 8 [DRIVE_TRAIN] => [FUEL_SYS] => [FUEL_TYPE] => GS [TRANS_TYPE] => [VEH_SPEED] => 55 [DOT] => [TIRE_SIZE] => [LOC_OF_TIRE] => [TIRE_FAIL_TYPE] => [ORIG_EQUIP_YN] => [MANUF_DT] => [SEAT_TYPE] => [RESTRAINT_TYPE] => [DEALER_NAME] => [DEALER_TEL] => [DEALER_CITY] => [DEALER_STATE] => [DEALER_ZIP] => [PROD_TYPE] => V [REPAIRED_YN] => [NICAR_FAILDATE] => 0000-00-00 [NICAR_DATEA] => [NICAR_LDATE] => [NICAR_PURCH_DT] => [NICAR_MANUF_DT] => [nicarid] => 0 ) [38] => Array ( [CMPLID] => 979774 [ODINO] => 10511504 [MFR_NAME] => Ford Motor Company [MAKETXT] => MERCURY [MODELTXT] => MOUNTAINEER [YEARTXT] => 2007 [CRASH] => N [FAILDATE] => 20121120 [FIRE] => N [INJURED] => 0 [DEATHS] => 0 [COMPDESC] => POWER TRAIN [CITY] => LONG BEACH [STATE] => CA [VIN] => [DATEA] => 20130511 [LDATE] => 20130511 [MILES] => 0 [OCCURENCES] => 1 [CDESCR] => WHILE ON THE FREEWAY MY CAR STARTED TO LOOSE POWER. when making a sudden stop, the brake pedal goes to the floor while maintaining pressure on the brake pedal. when holding vehicle on a steep incline (stopped), the pedal goes to the floor. had it back to ford dealers and was told this is a normal condition for explorers and mountaineers even though service managers and the mechanics have told me there was a problem when they initially checked the brakes. i have started the paperwork for the nys lemon law procedure. i have put the first complaint of this in the approx. accident date box. this happens whenever you use the vehicle.

transmission hard downshift when stopping or in slow traffic. vehicle surges almost "leaps" forward while at a stop when foot taken off of brake pedal. almost hit vehicle in front. another mountaineer owner refers to it as a "bump stop". this occurs daily although not every time the vehicle stops or slows. the is very unnerving in stop & go traffic as you have to keep your foot on the brake and leave a large space between the vehicle in front to avoid rear ending the other vehicle. took vehicle to aamco as our ford dealership is deplorable, aamco could not detect any defects. vehicle has 19,000 miles and is still under factory warranty.

vehicle's transmission "clunks" or hard shifts, when slowing down and coming to a stop, or at low speeds. surges at stop lights, or will hesitate when the gas pedal is pushed. this has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the vehicle in 1997. i have taken it back to the dealer numerous times, and they tell me that 1. nothing is wrong with the transmission or 2. they have downloaded a new program for the computer. i know there is something wrong, but no one will fix this. now it's 4000 miles over warranty, and the problem is getting worse. sooner or later this will cause an accident.

transmission jerks ahead while traveling on long distances and short. it has gotten worse. when i apply gas and use the passing gear to accelerate it shakes violently. going in and out of neutral it would seem. vehicle is 2007 53,000 miles. currently at dealer with transmission specialist. they are talking to ford hq for direction and have tried unsuccessfully to fix it so far. they are now looking at megatronics. internet blogs show this is very common in ford suv's and not a new problem but overlooked for sure.

when coming to slow stop, the vehicle will lunge forward before completely stopping. this behavior started several months ago and was very random in the beginning, but has become more and more frequent - almost every time i come to complete stop. vehicle also hesitates when gas is pressed and then surges forward. that behavior is very random at this stage, but car has done that over the past year. because of the "lunging" at stops, i have taken vehicle to repair shop and they indicate the vehicle's computer needs to be updated. this appears to be a common problem with this make/model/year.

i am the owner of a 2007 mercury mountaineer. it has about 64,000 miles on it, most of them highway miles. i have a leak in my radiator. the dealer says it is a defect in the radiator, and no corrosion is present. it is out of warranty, so i must bear the cost of replacement of the radiator. cost ~$700. i do not drive off road, so there is no valid reason the radiator should have failed. during an internet search, i discovered this is a common problem with 2006 and 2007 mercury mountaineers and ford explorers. this issue should be investigated, and ford held accountable for putting defective parts in their vehicles.

in regards to fitting two backless booster seats in the middle row of a 60-40 fold bench: on the passenger side- the seat does not slope on the sides and the buckle has a cloth strap and it is flexible and moves out of the slot to fit to his buckle. the seat is slightly wider than the drivers side. driver's side- the seat is more contoured and the buckle is affixed to the seat and does not move or come up because of the 60-40 split. when the booster seat is placed out of the edge of the contour on the drivers side- it completely covers the buckle. therefore, one must sit the booster unsafely at an angle where one side is higher than the other to get the buckle to fit in. i am certain in the event i slam on my brakes or get rearended, one child's seat would go flying, whereas the other seat fits safe and secure (passenger side).

while driving on a few different occasions now, my driver's seat which is power operated moved backwards on its own and the interior lights came on. i had to readjust the seat myself and then the interior lights went out once the seat was readjusted. the first time it happened i thought it was just a fluke as i have only owned this vehicle a little over a month. it has happened maybe 4-5 times now. today i was going around a curve in the road and it happened. it really could have caused an accident because it was on the interstate and i was traveling 55-60 mph.

i was driving on the highway and noticed that my steering was not working well. my engine was overheating and eventually shut off. i had to pull over on the side of the highway. when i got someone to look at the car, we realized it had no coolant. we filled up the coolant and everything seemed fine. about a month later i noticed that the engine was making the same noise as it had before as if it were working too hard. i checked the coolant and it was completely empty again. i have a friend who also owns the mm and had the same problem. the repair and cost of a new radiator was 1500. ford/merucy needs to do a recall on this product and get it taken care of. i just purchased this car in january and should not have to be spending so much money on a repair.

we bought the car 2 years ago and a few months after we have purchased it, it started to act up. when we pull the shift gear to reversed, it jerks real bad as if we were rear ended. a few times, the shift gear would be stuck. we could not pull the shifter down to reverse from park. it normally takes us an hour so to do it but tonight, it was worst. we were stuck on park...finally after an hour, we were able to pull it from park and onto reverse from the garage. only this time reverse was park, neutral was reverse, drive was neutral and 3 was drive. it was so frustrating....and to top that off, my husband and i both got into a heated argument over this stupid car!! we still cannot get it fixed because we don't have the money!!!

discount tire company informed me that they had a technical bulletin - wheel advisory that said; "do service the mercury mountaineer 18" oe wheels (2005 and newer) they found in testing that the front bead hump has a ridge on the balcony ledge which can cause bead damage when mounting. tests were conducted where several types of tires were mounted and inflated on the oe wheels. the only tire they were able to seat at (50psi) was the original equipment michelin. after mounting and found that it had a damaged bead. during the test, they were not able to get a tire to seat without damaging the bead. the recommendation: do not service these wheels. central florida lincoln dealer (formerly central florida lincoln mercury) did not have any service bulletin on this problem. the only way i could get new tires for my mercury mountaineer was to buy new 17" wheels and have new tires mounted on them.

i was driving on the expressway at 55 mph. i hit a slight bump in the road. the dome lights came on and the seat moved backwards, as if i had just removed the key from the ignition. i thankfully thought quickly and pushed on the key, which made the seat move back into position. it was just a miracle that the first thing i thought to do to fix the problem actually did. that could have been a very serious incident, as my feet were too far from the brake pedal and i could hardly reach it. i would not have been able to stop if i needed to stop quickly. that was the first of many occurrences. it has happened to me turning corners, driving on bumpy roads, having to brake suddenly (i just barely missed hitting the car in front of me), and even pulling in and out of my driveway.
