lincoln town car 2005 Complaints

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FLUID

the vehicle engine accelerates for no reason when i apply the brakes to stop and tries to move foward requiring me to reapply my foot on the brake pedal with force and put the transmission in nutrual to stop the forward or reverse motion of the vehicle. i had taken delivery of this vehicle on december 16, 2004 and have as of this date have driven it less then 2800 miles due to a major safety defect. i have taken this vehicle to the dealer service center to rectify this problem 3 times, i have also advised them in writing that, this problem makes the vehicle unsafe to drive on the road, and they advisedd me that, since this problem does not appear as an error code in the computer system they are unable to find or repair this. in essence they are unwilling to investigate this problem beyond attaching it to a computer to see if it shows any error code. the problem may be mechincal which would not show up in any computer or the problem may be in the transmission, or the fuel feed but they just have no intention to make this vehicle safe. i belive that this is not an isolated incedent but may be inherent in all vehicles built by ford in this class.

dt: the consumer owns a 2005 lincoln town car. she states that the way the front seat belt buckle is located in the seat it causes her right leg to go numb. in the other vehicles that she owned the seat belt buckle was beside the seat not in it. she contacted the manufacturer and they stated that this is just the way the vehicles were made. they also indicated that the seat belt buckle was put in the seat because of the side air bag. the dealership will not correct this problem because of the safety factors and regulations for the vehicle.

i purchased a new 2005 lincoln towncar. when i start to pass a car and press the accelerator to the floor to go into passing gear there is a period of a few seconds when the car appears to lose power then it shifts down and accelerates. the dealership told me "that is the way it works and there is no way to correct it". i think this puts me in danger because i cannot tell if the car is going to downshift and gain enough speed to pass or not. *jb

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

on september 4th, 2005 at approximately 2:30 pm, my assigned car, a 2005 lincoln continental, crashed into a hertz ford taurus and a hertz volvo. was the accident my fault or was it caused by a defective car? i was among transporters dropped off at the cherry hill, new jersey hilton hotel. our assignment was to pick-up cars and drive them to the hertz office at mcguire air force base. i found my car, a 2005 lincoln continental, buckled up, checked the mileage, started the engine and turned the lights on. i put the car into reverse and the car accelerated uncontrollably into two parked cars. all cars had severe damage. i don't believe (and am willing to take a lie detector test to prove it) i was in any way responsible for the accident because first of all, i have been employed for almost a year as a bordentown, nj hertz transporter and have a perfect driving record, with no violations or warnings of any kind. secondly, the parking lot attendant said he thought i had my brakes and accelerator engaged at the same time. i don't know how this was possible unless the car was accelerating by itself and overpowered the brakes. thirdly, acceleration marks on the pavement were continuous, unbroken and had a uniform consistency in color and width, showing that nothing i did had any effect on the backward acceleration. finally, i don't think anyone can reproduce these marks (approximately 33 feet long) with the same automobile unless they speed the engine to its maximum rpm in neutral and then slam the transmission into reverse. i obviously did not do this. somebody must investigate the mechanical, electrical and electronics of the 2005 lincoln continental that rocketed backward into two parked cars. i want to see this report, since i was the driver. mike meir, city manager for hertz at bordentown, nj 609-298-8585 can refer to the accident report, give you the vin number or any additional information you may require.*jb

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

dt: 2005 lincoln town car. the consumer wrote a letter to the dealer regarding potential gas tank safety and/or explosion problems that may exist in lincoln town car. have not any gotten any knowledgeable person saying that car was safe. the consumer has not been driving the car. contacted manufacturer, and someone called the consumer back and said the car was safe. the person he talked to said he was the individual responsible for complaints about vehicles. he showed no indication that he was an expert that could speak with authority regarding consumer's vehicle safety. the consumer purchased the vehicle in april 2005. the dealer too vehicle to a gas station ,and it took them 15 minutes to put in six gallons of gas. the dealer contacted ford to get advice on how to correct the problem. ford recommended that a gas tank valve should be replaced. the dealer ordered the recommended gas tank valve. the new valve for a 2005 lincoln town car was received by dealer. the new valve was different than the valve that came with consumer's 2005 lincoln. dealer called ford and informed them that consumer's vehicle was an early 2005 lincoln town car. later models were redesigned for use only on 2005 lincoln town cars. the dealer reordered the older design part that should work on consumer's lincoln. unfortunately the older design part was not readily available. ford put out an order to locate this part, and finally the part was received and reinstalled on vehicle. my car was tested, and the problem seemed to be resolved, but only time will tell. does this gas tank pose a potential safety problem, and if so is it a time bomb ready to go off at any time? consumer asked himself why the part was redesigned for use on later 2005 lincoln town cars. additionally, why was the part not readily available? finally my car was out of service from 08-18-05 to 09-16-05 a total of thirty days. mileage was 5875 and the delivery date forvehicle was april 5, 2005.*ak

2005 lincoln town car signature. brand new, only 200 miles on car. intermittently, the engine accelerates when i place my foot and depress the brake pedal. instead of stopping, it lurches forward. it has happened 6 times and luckily no other car was directly in front of me. the brake and accelerator pedals can be adjusted up and down and no way is better, it happens in both positions. i have spoken to another person with the identical car and he also has this problem. both he and his wife have experienced it. i also saw the exact same comment on this web site from a 3rd individual: http://www.mycarstats.com/console.asp this person said that the auto dealer told him that the car's computer did not list an error code for this so they were unable to repair it. also, i believe that the 2 pedals are too close to each other. my previous town car's pedals were further apart. i have not been back to the auto dealer yet but will go shortlyto report this dangerous occurrence but i don't believe that they will do anything about it. i love the car but think it is dangerous to drive.*jb

TIRES

my mother n law has had to replace (6) six michelin 225/60r/17 98t (lxr?) tires in the last eight months at great cost even though she has purchased a road hazard additional warranty. the original tires were not even out of warranty. 1 tire is understandable, 2 is questionable and 6 is a problem. she bought full set of michelin 225/60r/17 98t energy lx4 white walls on oct.06,2009. 1 had flat on jan 12,2010. different tire from 10/06/2009 purchase had "cotter key or pin" it was replaced at a cost of $69.84 on jan 30, 2009 she purchased 2 michelin 225/60r/17 98t lxr (lxr is what the receipt displays under "description") at a cost of $280.16. she didn't have further back receipts in hand but does have them> for why 2 tires should be replaced instead of needing full set. she has her tires rotated and balanced on schedule every 6 to 8 thousand miles like recommended. she also stated as an after thought that she has to put air in them every week to maintain her suggested psi for optimal performance as suggested by manufacturer. the "cotter key or pin' tire she has photos of this tire, documenting the tire failure. i started this with an email to michelin which they promptly responded too. i have since(am today) sent them another email, giving them more info on the dealers where she bought the tires etc... thanks for your time and considerations and keeping us safe.
