I WALKED ALONG THE GUARDRAIL AND TO THE REAR OF THE CAR TO VIEW THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. I COULD SEE THAT ALL OF THE TIRE EXCEPT THE SIDEWALLS WERE GONE AND THE RIM WAS BADLY DAMAGED FROM MAKING CONTACT WITH THE PAVEMENT. I CALLED THE LINCOLN EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE NUMBER ON MY CELL PHONE FOR A TOW TRUCK. MEANWHILE AN LOUISIANA STATE TROOPER ARRIVED AND PARKED BEHIND MY CAR AND WAITED FOR THE TOW TRUCK THAT ARRIVED ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER. BASED ON WHAT I HEARD AND WITNESSED WHEN PARTS OF THE MICHELIN TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL AND RIM IT APPEARS THAT THE TIRE FAILED DUE TO A CONSTRUCTION DEFECT. enclosed is a detailed description of a recent michelin tire failure on my 2006 lincoln ls. on friday, may 29, 2009 i was returning to south florida from a trip to dallas, tx. i was driving on i-10 about 15 miles east of lafayette, la. i suddenly heard a slapping/flapping noise coming from the left rear of the car. i looked at my outside rear view mirror and observed pieces of the rear left tire peeling away from the tire. then the car lurched as the metal rim of the left rear wheel made contact with the pavement. i luckily was able to steer the car into the right side emergency lane. there was a steady stream of vehicles racing by me, many of them 18-wheeler semi-tractor trailers. as soon as there was an opportunity i exited the car, as did my companion. i walked along the guardrail and to the rear of the car to view the left rear wheel. i could see that all of the tire except the sidewalls were gone and the rim was badly damaged from making contact with the pavement. i called the lincoln emergency road service number on my cell phone for a tow truck. meanwhile an louisiana state trooper arrived and parked behind my car and waited for the tow truck that arrived about 30 minutes later. my car was towed to the nearest authorized lincoln-mercury dealer in breaux bridge, la. the ford service department ordered and installed a new replacement rim and tire on saturday, may 30th. they placed the two sidewalls still on the damaged rim in my trunk and i continued my trip home. based on what i heard and witnessed when parts of the michelin tire separated from the sidewall and rim it appears that the tire failed due to a construction defect. the photos show the extent of damage caused to the tire that separated the tread casing from the sidewalls. here is more important information for your records. i have in my possession the part of the destroyed tire containing the michelin tire description and the dot code. it proves beyond a doubt that it was the michelin tire.

car act like it stalls/skips/misfires around 2200 rpm, engine shuts off & "etc engine failsafe mode" is indicated. diagnosis as electronic throttle control resulting in an unsafe driving condition typically when accelerating on freeway or causing complete engine shutdown. as indicated on a wed chat page this lincoln ls engine failsafe mode is a significant problem when the car won't go past 20 mph & then you get to play a game of lets dodge 70 mph traffic w/ semi-trucks (where the minimum post interstate speed is 45 mph). from several web sites, it appears this error is a common safety concern with a number of lincoln ls's.

driver side curtain air bag deployed for no apparent reason. traveling east on i-94, in milwaukee, wi, about 9200 east. conditions: 12:45 pm, 37 degrees, light rain. we had been driving about 20 minutes. engine was completely warm. no alcohol was involved. driver suffered a shoulder injury from the force of the airbag, but refused treatment. driver managed to retain control and pulled over on the right berm. he inspected exterior of vehicle. there was no indication of anything hitting the car. he then continued to drive home without incident.

when i be driving give it the gas the etc failed safemode jumps on have no acceleration or power i have to pull over in traffic were ever we are at interstate, town it don't matter it is unsafe and i see a lot of these cars in this year or earlier have the same problem and don't know how to fix it.

tl* the contact owns a 2006 lincoln ls. the contact stated that the vehicle independently engaged into safe mode and lost acceleration power. the contact stated that etc safe mode light illuminated when the failure occurred. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose a failure. the failure and current mileages were 184,000.

vehicle had experience approximately 6 times the trac control turning off while driving. soon while accelerating onto freeway the light came on and then a load noise. the engine blew with no prior warning from any of the vehicle controls except for the trac control light. the car continues to sit in my garage because i do not have $5000.00 to fix it.
