Safety Issue:

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4XE and 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles. The high voltage battery may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving.

Potential Risk:
A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures, and not to recharge their vehicles until they are repaired. Dealers will update the high voltage battery pack software and replace the battery pack assembly, if necessary, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed October 11, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 2024. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 95B. Vehicles in this recall that were previously recalled for the same issue under NHTSA Recall 23V-787 will need to have the new remedy performed.

Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The contact owned a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4XE. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V720000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed high voltage battery pack software failure. The contact was informed that the battery pack assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000. The VIN was not available.
