Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I am reporting two major electrical-related failures in my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland that raise serious safety concerns. In February 2025, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete battery failure with no warning. No lights or messages appeared. I was left stranded and had to tow the vehicle. The dealership found that one battery had completely failed and required replacement, while the second battery had to be recharged. No clear cause was identified. This raised concerns about a deeper electrical or charging system issue. On [XXX], the vehicle became completely inoperable again while I was traveling out of state. I was stranded in Iowa and had to tow the vehicle to a certified Jeep dealership. They diagnosed that the wiring harness connectors to the fuel pump were stuck open, causing the connector to overheat and fail. This required full replacement of the wiring harness, which involves dropping the fuel tank. There were no warning lights, messages, or drivability issues prior to the failure. Electrical overheating in a component directly tied to the fuel system poses a serious fire and safety hazard. As of today, the vehicle remains at the dealership, and I have been without transportation since [XXX]. I opened a case with Stellantis, but my case manager has not provided any updates. Stellantis has now told me I must coordinate with the dealership to request goodwill repair assistance, despite the urgency and safety-critical nature of the failure. These are not typical issues for a well-maintained vehicle. I urge NHTSA to investigate this as a potential electrical defect that may pose a broader safety risk to other owners. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Was driving at night on a rural highway. Experienced a complete electrical failure - all lights, engine function, power steering and power brakes failed; coasted to the side of the road. ~~I thought that I had just run out of gas, but adding gas did not permit the car to restart. Tow truck could not jump start the vehicle. It was towed to the dealership, where they replaced the regular battery (<20k miles on it), performed the hybrid battery software upgrade (the "recall"), sent me home. Towing and rental coverage were not offered. ~~BTW, I had requested this recall about 3 months previously, but it was "not available" yet. ~~The vehicle continued to stutter intermittently, concomitantly flashing the "service hybrid battery light." I took it back to the dealership. They ran tests, inspected it for unwarranted damage, cleared out the codes, and sent it home. ~~Another 2 months of the same incidents, sometimes with a "refuse to start in the morning" altogether aggravation. I grew increasingly concerned for my safety and the safety of others on the highway. Obviously, this problem wasn't going to go away with just ignoring it and hoping for the best. ~~I contacted the dealership to bring it in for service again; they refused to even entertain the idea of providing me with a rental until they could fix it, even knowing that it's clearly a warranty issue. I took it to a different Jeep dealership, somewhat distant from my home but actually the dealership from which I had purchased it online. They were so kind, got me into a rental and promised to look into it. They got in contact with the manufacturer quickly. Jeep engineering department admitted they can't fix it. 6 weeks later, they still haven't fixed it, I'm paying almost $3000/m for pmt& insurance for a car that's unsafe to drive, but the corporation hasn't offered me any options to get out of a lease.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

A known issue by jeep affecting many Grand Cherokee PHEV Hybrids, all following the 95 B recall. The recall repair 95 B is attributed to be causing Red Flag Dashboard Warnings to "service hybrid system". Dealer computer scans document these incidents as a "Digital Crash" of the vehicle's onboard computer. Multiple incidents for me have been transitory but for others, these digital crashes are causing engine shut downs on the highway -- see the attachments for 4 such cases downloaded from the Jeep website. Obviously crazy things can happen when a car's computer shuts down while driving -- no one knows if my next Digital Crash could shut down my engine when I am in a multi-car passing situation on a 2 lane highway at 70 MPH and yet that scenario is happening to others. I have seen 3 jeep dealers and have documentation on those digital scans for my vehicle-- Jeep is aware of the problem but they have no-fix. There are over 500 complaints on the public jeep 4xe website across multiple conversation threads of people having this exact problem. You can see from the attachment that the dealers are telling owners that the cars are 'unsafe to drive' because they do recognize that the next digital crash of the computer will be a fatal accident. None of these problems existed before that recall was available in January. Something in that NHTSA 95 B recall for the Grand Cherokee PHEV was defective and is causing these digital crashes -- jeep does not dispute that, at least from what I have been told. Jeep has to be required to do another recall to fix the earlier 95 B recall. It has been close to 6 months now without a fix and nothing is happening. It is probably a software fix, but it needs to be done and at this point it appears that they must be forced to do so by NHTSA. Please see the 4 attachments of what others have encountered. < on your below questions -- Multiple incidents, multiple dates, multiple speeds for me>

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

My 2023 Jeep GC Overland 4XE was at the Jeep service center for the same issue in a week. I get a Service throttle control warning, CEL, then every warning light on the dashboard lit up. It happened on my driveway the other day and I would not drive. I had Jeep roadside tow it to a Jeep service center. On 7/9/2025 I picked up the Jeep. Service tec said no open recalls, no software updates and the throttle body module was reprogrammed. A 14-mile test drive was done and the codes did not return. Shortly after pickup, while driving at 65 MPH on the thruway, I got the same error message, Service throttle control along with a check engine light and all warning lights again lit up. The Jeep displayed a reduced power warning, and many other warning but I didn’t have time to look at the dashboard. The vehicle slowed to a crawl in limp mode at 23 MPH, the steering became very heavy and slow to respond. I was able to quickly move over to the shoulder, and I was almost rear ended by a tracker trailer. I got off the thruway, shut the engine off, then back on and was able to get full power back. I immediately drove it to the dealership service center. This is NOT safe vehicle to be in and there are many other reports of this happening.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Driving down interstate going 78mph in hybrid mode and the car shuts off and I was able to get over to the side of the road since traffic wasn't bad at the time. Restarted the car and went on my way with no other issues until last week. Driving down the interstate again in hybrid mode and the "service hybrid " light starts flashing and so I changed to all gas for the remainder of the trip. Took it to the dealer yesterday and they had no answers other then they updated the software. We shall see but how it works but I have my doubts that it wont cut off again or have issues. Only has 14K miles on it when this stuff happened.

Defect Description:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My Jeep has been a consistent problem. The vehicle gives many warning and "service powertrain" warnings in the dashboard. Additionally, at the same time as the warnings, the vehicle will lurch - slowing down significantly and making passengers in the vehicle panic. I have gone to the dealer to already fix not 1 but 5, yes FIVE, recalls related to the powertrain system. This last visit (today) I was told that Stellantis acknowledges the issue, but does not have a fix. This vehicle was clearly not ready for production and Stellantis needs to be held accountable to it's customers.
