Recall Date: Jun 9, 2020
Safety Issue:

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2020 Towable Eagle, Eagle HT, JayFlight, NorthPoint, Octane, Pinnacle, Seismic, and Talon recreational vehicles. Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the frameless windows for proper adhesive bond strength, replacing the windows as necessary, free of charge. This recall began June 15, 2020. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901508.

Potential Consequences:

Frame failure on my Jayco Pinnacle 36 5th wheel RV is the issue. The frame welds have cracked where the front overhangs and the pin box attaches to the truck pulling the 5th wheel thus causing outer cracking of the exterior fiberglass. The steel used in the frame does not stand up to the flexing as a result of moving down the highway. An investigation needs to be opened into this problem as the frames need to last more than a few years on a RV that is traveling down the roads and highways at a high rate of speed which could result in the RV becoming a safety hazard causing catastrophic injuries to the public. Manufacturers must take responsibility for their defective product and be held accountable to fixing what they know was wrong at the time of manufacturing. The consumer is the fall guy for the sale of poorly designed and engineered RV's. A lemon law should be enforced for RVs that fall into this category.

Potential Consequences:

The body is cracking and we are concerned that it is being caused by a frame problem. We contacted Jayco when we noticed the crack and they basically told us that sorry for the crack but you are out of warranty and we can’t help you. They are 100% aware of these issues and should be fixed at their expense regardless of warranty.

STRUCTURE

Potential Consequences:

The frame failure on this Jayco Pinnacle 36 ssws 5th wheel RV is an issue across all company product lines where Grand Design is the most talked about on You Tube. Essentially, the frame welds crack and/or the frame itself cracks usually on the front overhang where the pin box attaches to the truck pulling the 5th wheel causing outer cracking of the exterior fiberglass. The frames are usually manufactured by Lippert. The steel used in the frame does not stand up to the flexing as a result of moving down the highway. I would like to see an investigation into this problem as the frames need to last more than two years on an item that costs over $100,000. Dealers don't take responsibility, manufactures don't take responsibility nor do the extended warrantee's take responsibility. The consumer is the fall guy for the sale of poorly designed and engineered RV's. I would like to see stress testing or something similar. A lemon law would be nice. The pics added only show the tell tale signs of the flexing. My unit will be fixed in Sept 24; a 10 month wait, which tells you of the seriousness of the issue. I will up load pics after the repair shop takes the unit apart and fixes it. (The trim separates from the siding initially) It's difficult to see in the pics.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

My RV, 2020 Jayco Pinnacle, had to have new tires replaced after <12K miles due to bad axles, Dexter # 133178799. The new tires were replaced only to have the same wear patterns after 2,400 miles. I contacted Dexter & was offered one new axle (two are required) as a goodwill offer; not recognizing any quality issues with the axles. Also any replacement of tires or labor to install the new axle would be at my cost. I believe these axles are too light for this size 5th wheel and/or the product was damaged prior to my purchase due to the early initial tire wear.
