Defect Description:
SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY
Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2021 Jayco Northpoint RV. The contact stated while parked in a parking lot, the contact was inspecting the vehicle and became aware that the passenger’s side rear tire inside edge was worn steel belts were showing. The contact had an RV mobile tech replace the tire with the spare. The contact then slowly drove the RV to a local dealer who diagnosed the failure as a bent rear axle and that the axle was welded incorrectly on the RV. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

After measuring the axle, it was determined that a 5/16-inch discrepancy on the driver’s side of the axle was present which caused the balding of the tire. The RV manufacturer and the axle manufacturer Dexter Axles were notified of the failure and the axle was replaced. The contact was not informed if the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V665000 (Suspension). The failure mileage was 3,300.
